View Full Version : Whats with all the wildlife sounds
Hanks 10-23-2005, 08:52 PM All along I always wondered why we dont hear birds, insects etc. I know we heard a bird sound once or twice and we heard a boar but never heard a true sound of wildlife which I would think is multiple sounds overlapping .
In this episode the multiple overlapping sounds of wildlife was very noticeable. You hear birds, flies buzzing and sounds you would expect to hear in a jungle.( i even thought I heard a monkey)
WOnder why all of sudden they incorporated these sounds as part of the scenes for us.
qorzm 10-23-2005, 08:57 PM They are in the wildlife.
Hanks 10-23-2005, 09:01 PM They are in the wildlife.
ok.
Sayid was in the wildlife , Danielle, Locke, Boone, pretty much everyone was in the wildlife at one point in time and I cannot recall a single scene where we heard multiple layers of differing wildlife before this episode.
Baileysdad 10-23-2005, 09:03 PM Think outside the box...who said this is even the same Island Jack and gang washed ashore on?? Why not two Islands?? There is no evidence it is the same one...
God's tom 10-23-2005, 09:17 PM Think outside the box...who said this is even the same Island Jack and gang washed ashore on?? Why not two Islands?? There is no evidence it is the same one...
That's just a little too far "outside the box" for my taste!
duckyislost 10-23-2005, 09:22 PM No monster security system on the tailies side to scare wildlife away? Perhaps the electromagnetic anomalies near the swan station bother wildlife? The midsection side has 40 some people and a dog in a large encampment and multiple fires.
Superficially I think it was intended to make the tailies side of the island seem that much more wild.
execute 10-23-2005, 09:23 PM maybe the creators would rather focus on the show not animals that have nothing to do with it. i heard you can hear all the animals you want on animal planet though!
i_love_dmjgmfna 10-23-2005, 09:27 PM Maybe they added the sounds in so that it would be that much harder to hear the others...?

I like that theory. The wildlife sounds are masking out the sounds of the whisperers.
Baileysdad 10-23-2005, 09:37 PM I think it is a good observation.
I have posted this thread before and had some debates with other but I will say it here again.
I don't believe they are on an Island in the South Pacific..I believe they are on a barren hunk of rock in the Arctic Ocean. The Island was purchased by Hanso for weather experiments. The magnet keeps the weather warm..if not reset...they timer turns it back into the ice age. They introduced flora and fauna into this controled environment to see if they could thrive in what they thought was a tropical setting...they are teaching them to behave.
No, I have not been eating the paste Locke gave Boone to make him think his sister got eaten...I just think there is more than we even think can be happening happening on that Island.

No, I have not been eating the paste Locke gave Boone to make him think his sister got eaten...I just think there is more than we even think can be happening happening on that Island. That would very noticeably change the relative length of the days & nights. So much so that science teacher Arnzt would have noticed it and remarked on it. Unless your theory also includes a light modification screen in the sky way above the island and extends as far out to sea as the raft went including under the surface since sharks are not cold water creatures. Way too much modification if the island is to remain hidden. Umm besides I don't think a mere thousand miles off course would take them far enough to crash there.
I think that this time we heard more wildlife sounds to emphasize the Lost-in-the-jungle existence of the tail-enders. That is a technique often used in Tarzan & other 'in Africa' movies where they dub in the sound of the Australian Kookaburra to make it sound like a jungle. The sound was there for an eerie atmosphere.
benos 10-23-2005, 10:10 PM Where the misty mountains are, i think thats where the sounds could be coming from?
Baileysdad 10-23-2005, 10:22 PM Of course...not many sharks..warm or cold water...have symbols on them. Perhaps the shark is to keep people from breeching the perimeter..much like the sea hobos...
1000 miles from where?
Not saying this is in stone...but it is obvious this Island is not normal...
I just hope that when all this is said in done in five years or so..we all don't have a major "h'uh?" uttured amungst us...
Fogey 10-23-2005, 11:49 PM 1000 miles from where?Well check an airline route from Australia to LA and go 1000 miles out anywhere along the line. In favor of your theory is the large amount of power they might have available from the geothermal power plant. Against it is, the dated technology of the computer room & button do not fit n with the scientific advances that would be needed for weather control etc.
wintermancer 10-23-2005, 11:55 PM The wildlife sounds are accentuated in this episode so that you can understand how Mr. Eko knows the "Others" are near by. Remember when they walk by they don't make a sound at all. So if you run into them, you don't know it until face to face, too late. But if you tune in to the wildlife around you, you know somebody is coming because the birds are stirred up. Mr. Eko knew of their presence indirectly by listening to the forest.
LostFANatic91 10-24-2005, 12:18 AM We have heard wildlife before..... And has anyone else noticed in season 1 where they were had the dyno? When the monster was near do you notice the bird that flew away? The sound is made was freaky.... I've heard it before in the show....

Bond_81 10-24-2005, 09:17 AM Interesting idea about them being on an island somewhere in the arctic. However i dont see how the plane could have got there from Sydney without anyone noticing (i dont know specifics but the distance would be noticable im sure) and not only that, again, im no expert and would love to be corected, but is the 777 capable of making it that far without refuelling?
I guess, if this is the case, then it is a far reaching conspiracy, in that the entire flight would have been controled and orchestrated by those in the know... and have some pretty hefty connections.
Baileysdad 10-24-2005, 10:28 AM I know what you are saying...I guess I am just looking at things that should be obvious and going somewhere else with it...perhaps the pilot was in on whatever is happening when he told them where they were...any proof the plane actually was going toward LA? Just because he said so doesn't make it so...
Good point about dated technology and the hardship that would make changing the weather..
If this is an experiment....the plane was never headed to LA to begin with...but headed to the destination point of this Island so that could put them anywhere south of Austrailia which would be the Arctic Circle...there the natural magnetic field coupled with the man made magnetic device could play havoc with a lot of things...
Or..I could be just a tad off center...:)
Baileysdad 10-24-2005, 10:35 AM Hey Fogey...love the mutant turkey Avatar...:)

Yes, we have heard wildlife before. I remember particularly that you could hear monkeys in the background when the Beechcraft fell from the cliff. We don't always hear the wildlife, but we do hear it from time to time. I think we have heard a LOT of bird sounds. I would swear I've heard loons too! Also, we hear wildlife when it is particularly a part of the story, like the boars.
Fogey 10-24-2005, 01:56 PM Hey Fogey...love the mutant turkey Avatar...:)
Mutant Turkey:confused: and here they told me it was a Basilisk.
Maybe I should have gone with Count Quackula as my ava?
Thanks I have had fun using it for an avatar.

777 range maximum range 5,955 nautical miles (a nautical mile is about 1.15 miles)

I really think the wild life sound is a combination of mood enhancement and clues to the presence of activity within the jungle. Movies often have characters recognise the reaction of animals as an indication that 'other' people are nearby.
Pamitha 10-24-2005, 03:46 PM I feel like it was a contrivance to make this side of the island seem more unexplored and "unspoiled." Like it was less used to human presence.
Patstar 10-24-2005, 04:49 PM ... south of Austrailia which would be the Arctic Circle...
That's the Antarctic Circle dude.
Baileysdad 10-24-2005, 05:15 PM I sit corrected my Kiwi friend...:)
Patstar 10-24-2005, 05:23 PM Sweet as dude.
May I ask which island you live on?

I'm with U there, ducky
Fogey 10-24-2005, 08:36 PM That's the Antarctic Circle dude. I did pick up on that Antarctic slip but didn't worry about it because I also believe polar bears are limited to the Arctic. But then I'm no bear expert.
