View Full Version : Locke...
thenumbersare... 11-03-2005, 04:38 PM In watching Orientation again last night I started to wonder about flashbacks, and the timing of them, and it dawned on me, have we ever been clued in as to why or how Locke lost the use of his legs and ended up in a wheelchair? Could it have been some more bad luck associated with Hurley - accident at the box factory?
arias_decamp 11-04-2005, 07:25 AM That's still a mystery. In season one, Locke told Boone that he was in a wheel chair before the plane crash, but he was able to use his legs on the island. Boone asked why he was in the wheel chair and Locke said that "it doesn't matter anymore". Locke is just as much a mystery as the island itself.
Bond_81 11-04-2005, 07:44 AM While we are on Locke, i was rewatching episode 19 from Season 1, Deus Ex Machina, where in Lockes flashback he first met his mum. When they sat down for cofee after he confronted her for following him, she said something that at first i thought was ramblings of a crazy woman, though in light of what we know now, maybe something more substantial...
Lockes Mum: I want to tell you that your special, very special. You were part of a design. You do realise that- don't you? That our meeting, me finding you, that this is a sign of things to come. Great things.
She then goes on to tell him that he doesnt have a father and that he was immaculatelly concieved, though again, could be more to it.
I would not be remotelly suprised if this has been brought up before, but i have to wonder if Lockes mum is in some way connected to, or involved with Dharma. Could be a clue of sorts.

Good point.
I too think Locke's mother's comments are key to his character and may ring some truth. Maybe Locke is one of Hanso's experiments-a test tube baby?
ennui108 11-04-2005, 12:43 PM I should point out that Locke's paralisys doesn't have anything to do with Hurley's bad luck because Locke has been in the wheelchair for four years and Hurley only won the lotto about a year ago.
lostbylost 11-04-2005, 12:52 PM With the BF Skinner reference and the belief of a child not being raised by his natural parents, there could be a tie in. Yet, The whole thing could just have been a scam just as Cooper(Locke's supposed father) said. Cooper has a lot of money and may have been able find out that Locke was a perfect match and set up the elaborate scam in order to get the kidney. The P.I. could have been working for Anthony Cooper and all the reports that he gave to Locke were false.
generalpropmgr@yahoo.com 11-04-2005, 01:15 PM I have always had a problem with what his mom said - glad you posted it - because it has always been in the back of my head when it come to theories such as...
clones,
experiments,
memory tamporing.....
etc.
really Locke not being an actual whatever fits with all of these theories....
Noeland 11-04-2005, 03:46 PM Locke's Mom is crazy, and so is Locke. They've established it right along with everything else, though it's been very subtle. They romanticise his behaivor because it makes for an interesting character, but at the end of the day Locke is crazy, and full of it.
He thought the Walkabout in Australia was his destiny, don't forget that everything he said to that travel agent is pretty much what he has said to Jack and Charlie, and those guys. It's just in a different context, so you look at it and say "Yeah, OK. Destiny. I'm convinced. Hey, was that a giant monster?"
Imagine if you worked with a guy who kept talking about his destiny in grandious terms, and if he told you his mother said he was special, and immaculately concieved, you'd turn his *** in.
Bond_81 11-05-2005, 01:44 AM I agree that the most likelly scenario is that his mother is in fact insane, and so is Locke to a lesser extent, or perhaps just a bit out-of-touch.
I just thought it was worth throwing out there, because it does seem rather prophetic in light of what we now know. Is it possible that Cooper may himself be involved with Dharma, perhaps if, as many believe, these people were brought to the island for a reason and are all in some way connected, perhaps Cooper did more than just take Lockes Kidney while he was in the hospital.

word!
Cassieeeee 11-05-2005, 10:41 AM I have my own theories about how Locke lost the use of his legs -
A car crash that also killed Helen?
A Knife fight? (Maybe that's when he learned to throw knives?)
Falling out of a window? (Someone fell out of a window in S1 when Hurley was talking about his bad luck...)
I know they're all really goofy...
OfAllTheThingsIveLost 11-05-2005, 09:18 PM Oooh, I like the idea that it could have been in a car crash that killed Helen. Definitely a possibility!
