View Full Version : Claire and the Hatch
tink23 11-03-2005, 05:01 PM I have wondered about a couple of ideas for a while now. First, when Hurley decided to share the food with everyone instead of rationing it, why didn't he attempt to ration some (if there was any) "baby appopriate" food for Claire and Aaron. Second, again, because she does have a baby, why isn't Claire and Aaron allowed to use the hatch's "luxurious" features (running water, kitchen, bed, shelter)? I'm sure the people who know about the button could come up with a reason why they have to push it every 108 minutes to tell her. Like, maybe they push it because it runs the generator/electricity. It just seems to me that if these options were availabe, and there is a very young baby on an abandonded island, people would want to help it.
goddessblue 11-03-2005, 05:08 PM I agree that Claire and Aaron should be allowed some of the hatch's comforts. Seems to make a lot of sense. Raising a newborn in the jungle vs. inside with some protection and shelter? Claire and Turniphead should get a little bit of special treatment, IMO. (Maybe I just think that cuz I'm a mom, lol.)
As far as rationing food for Claire and Aaron... Claire maybe, should have some healthy choices set aside for her. But Aaron, he's only a couple of weeks old, so (I'm assuming) Claire is nursing him. Babies that small don't eat regular food. He could go for the first year of his life on just mother's milk. But it would be important to make sure that Claire is well fed since she is responsible for feeding the baby.
tink23 11-03-2005, 05:14 PM That's true about the food. He should have set some aside for Claire. Maybe peanut butter is the newest healt food to eat to nurse baby's!
I wouldn't expect there to be much "baby appropriate" food in the hatch. We haven't seen what's been going on at the hatch during ...And Found, maybe we'll find they have been using the facilities. We also don't see if Hurley has kept anything back - we're only shown some of the stuff that is given out.
lockeisthekey 11-03-2005, 05:32 PM I think that they are telling everyone about pushing the button... so that would
not have anything to do with Claire. John said he was going to work out a
schedule for pushing the button in shifts.
I'm sure that everyone would let her use the hatch, and have more of the food. I
know that I wouldn't begrudge her that if I were there.
i_love_dmjgmfna 11-03-2005, 06:03 PM That's a good point, tink. Let the nursing mother have some comforts!
AlongCameLost 11-03-2005, 06:38 PM PB is protein and good for a nursing mom.
As far as the hatch goes, maybe Jack and co. aren't sure of what secrets it still holds and if it is indeed safe.
Besides, many women have and still do raise their babies in the jungles, deserts, (insert inhospitable location here). Not that I would want to, but maybe they are better off in the elements than facing the unknown of the hatch.
Bond_81 11-04-2005, 07:36 AM With regards to the hatch, we should also bare in mind that there appears to be a reasonably strong magnetic field eminating from inside it- strong enough to move jacks key, and lets not forget whatever is entombed in the concrete, that which Sayid drew parallels to Chernobyl, i suspect that even if they hadnt considered it, a place like this may not be the best environment for a new born. Adults have much stronger immune systems (as far as i know, or assume- being that i dont have any experience with new-borns besides what ive 'learnt' from TV!) and i would just be very cautious personally before exposing a week old baby to these factors.
arias_decamp 11-04-2005, 07:37 AM Not that I would want to, but maybe they are better off in the elements than facing the unknown of the hatch.
Without knowing the possible dangers of the hatch, bringing a baby into it probably wouldn't be the best idea. I would think until some of the mysteries of the hatch are solved, Jack would advise against it. Just think of all the poisons, radiation, etc.....
Dino 23F 11-04-2005, 07:43 AM we dont really know whats been going on lately, the last couple episodes have been mainly about the tailies and rafties. im sure there keeping her comfortable though, weather in the hatch or outside it, with ammenities from the hatch
LostMyMarbles 11-04-2005, 11:44 AM Any dangers inside the hatch are theoretical. Claire/Aaron have been kidnapping victims twice, both before and after the birth. Claire and Aaron should be hidden away in the most protected place inside the hatch. It's crazy for them to stay on the beach.
Noeland 11-04-2005, 03:18 PM These guys are in extraordinary circumstances. Applying modern logic to the situation is kind of useless. I think it would be Clair'es choice to raise the baby how she wants, on the beach despite the threat, or in the hatch despite the threat. Life is never safe no matter where you raise a child. They can get killed just as dead inside thier own home.
