this episode seemed like it was thrown together in about five minutes, so i'll make this post seem the same way. why is hurley pushing the button now, when he's been so adamant against them this entire time.... when was he convinced to push the button? why is his friend dj qualls so upset looking at the end of the episode, it's not like he was lied to or anything... in fact, he doesnt even know for a fact that hurley really won. at that point it could still be a case of mistaken identity. whatever, the friend would be jumping up and down and carrying on. there was absolutely no character development, and that montage at the end of the episode was just ridiculous and awkward.

I gotta agree. I've always thought the same thing.

I cried at that part, I thought it was touching. His friend was upset because he figured everything was going to change. Also, did you forget that he quit his job, which he really needed, just because Hurley did? He did so because he thought Hurley needed his job, too, and that they were together in the whole thing. He finds out that Hurley's a millionaire. I'd be bummed, too.

What do you mean you cried!?

The fact that anyone could have enjoyed this episode, I can maybe stretch my imagination enough to buy that- but claiming that it was so powerful that it brought you to tears is just plain nonsense and there can be no way you are telling the truth.

Wow. No need to be a jerk about it! Just because you hated it doesn't mean everyone else does. I can't believe you're actually accusing me of lying. That is so outrageous.

The only outrage is this poor excuse of an episode, and okay, maybe you aren't necessarily lying, but perhaps there is another explanation for shedding tears at the preposterous ending.... could there not be a chance that something was caught in your eye at the time, or perhaps you were even watching a different show or movie altogether and not realizing it?

If we all liked the exact same things this world would be very boring. You can't please everybody all the time. We all like different characters for different reasons. We each have our own favorite episode. It's a free country and we will cry when we want to. Please pass the kleenex.

Re: the thread tho, D.J. Qualls did have a purpose and will later I'm sure.
May even show up on the island real or figment knowing the show.
And yeah, he felt betrayed with having quit not knowing Hurley was loaded.

I really liked this episode, it is too bad that others hated it so much. I really like Hurley's character so I was glad they got a little more in depth with it. As for DJ's character - I was really upset by his reaction. Why wouldn't he be more excited and supportive, like a good friend should be? Poor Hurley...

I think he's upset because he just asked Hurley for a couple of bucks so he could buy a beer. Then, he realizes he should've at least asked for a twenty, then he could've bought a couple of cases of PBR. Opportunity lost.

I cried too. I thought this episode was fantastic!! It gave you a slice of Hurley's life that included his closest relationships. It featured his Mom, bestfriend and the girl he really dug. The writers were very clever in this episode by really establishing the brother like quality between the two. Essentially there was a reason that this character was introduced. Hurley obiviously had a hard time embracing his new life with money. He knew that the most important thing was his realtionships and the heartbreaking thing is he new they were unltimatly going to change or be lost forever.

*no pun intended*

I don't think we are through with Hurley's backstory by a long shot.

I see the expression on Hurley's friend as one of shock, dismay, disbelief. Like "I cannot believe you did not confide in me with this, afterall we are best friends!"

I agree with the reality being a little off. How would the store clerk know it was Hurley that bought the winning ticket? Unless, as speculated, it was all set up.

Overall, I liked this epi. We got to learn more about Hurley's life. The humor in this one seem to be comic relief for the series. Much like Hurley is comic relief for the episodes.

I didn't understand qualls character's(can't remeber the name) reaction. To me it did not seem like a "shoocked" reaction, it almost seemed like a "why him and not me?" reaction. The sad thing is that money tends to bring out the worst in people and I think Hurley knew and understood that, that's why he was a little reluctant to claim the price money. I am sad that that would happen between 2 friends like them. If I were in the friends position I (hope) wouldn't react like that. I'd be very happy for my friend, also because that means he's buying form now on. :)

I never bought the reaction. As far as "he quit his job" line, thats ridiculous. "OMG I lost my job that pays 5.15 an hour, I hate you chubby millionaire" I think they could've told a different story that explained his apprehensiveness about having things that others dont. The instant reaction by DJ Qualls was just not realistic in my mind.
And during the episode all he had to tell charlie is that Savior Jack and the great white hunter aren't allowing any withdrawls from the food stash, as soon as they do, I'll give you the off brand dharma peanut butter
As far as crying to this episode, okay that your business good for you
