View Full Version : Wet Walt
Breasmith 11-10-2005, 10:03 PM So we know someone came from the water to kill steve. walt was taken on the water. some island people (whichever group they are) obviously have boats. do you think the reason walt is wet is because to get from wherever gordon's fisherman is to the island requires that he have to go through or under water?
i don't get the backward speak, but also why is the boy always wet? And not just a little wet...sopping, dripping wet. Like he just came out of the ocean.
Monkey 11-10-2005, 10:06 PM I read a book I think it was by Dean Koontz, where they took children with psychic abilities and put them in Sensory Depravations tanks filled with water. Perhaps we are seeing a remotely viewed Walt being held in a Sensory Tank. And that is why he's wet. Maybe thats where the Whispers come from...other people being held similarly.
Breasmith 11-10-2005, 10:08 PM awesome monkey. i know of those tanks...complete darkness, half submerged in water. didn't know they put special kids in there, but that could explain some of walt's behavior.
monsieurxander 11-10-2005, 10:28 PM Man.. who is Steve?
Two minor characters in season one named Scott and Steve. They are often confused with each other, both by the characters of the show and audience members. One of them, identified as Scott by Hurley, gets killed, presumably by Ethan Rom.
Breasmith 11-10-2005, 10:29 PM i think steve was that random guy who was killed when the lostaways were trying to protect their territory. but that may not be his name, i forget.
Breasmith 11-10-2005, 10:34 PM ganzfeld experiments...thats what the version is called i remember hearing about. people with psychic abilities are tested via these experiments...have been since before Dharma supposedly came along.
cbsgough 11-10-2005, 10:57 PM I have been wondering why Walt is wet since we forst saw him. It doesn't make sense. I would assume that the others docked their boat somewhere. So why is he wet?
cbsgough 11-10-2005, 10:59 PM FYI:
The ganzfeld ("total field") experiment uses audio and visual sensory deprivation to test for extra-sensory perception (ESP).
There are claims that this experiment yields results that deviate significantly from randomness, and represent some of the strongest experimental evidence for psi phenomena to date. As with all purported psi phenomena, these claims are highly controversial within science in general and even within parapsychology. The debate is well-documented in parapsychology journals and in articles such as those referred to below.
The ganzfeld experiments are among the most recent in parapsychology for testing the existence of and affecting factors of telepathy, the ability to communicate information from one person's mind to that of another without resorting to normal means.
And actually in these experiments they are not submerged in water but have half ping pong balls covering there eyes and wear heavy earphones.
Breasmith 11-10-2005, 11:14 PM yeah, a true' ganzfeld' experiment does not per se have the subject under water. but sensory deprivation tanks or Samadhi tanks are used for psych experiments that resemble ganzfeld experiments.
interesting that Samadhi is a yogic term in light of dharma's use of namaste. and also in light of the dharma symbols.
Robinhood56 11-10-2005, 11:19 PM The only problem I have with this theory is that the water is dripping off of Walt like he is standing under running water not in a tank is still water. Not sure what it means but I pretty sure it mean something.
thepeppermintstripe 11-10-2005, 11:21 PM There's a theory on Lost-Forum that maybe the end of the cable they followeed to reach Rousseau, the end that went into the water, maybe it went into another Dharma hatch, possibly a submarine one. And maybe that's where they're coming from? Though that opens a whole can of worms about Ethan.
withay 11-10-2005, 11:25 PM I think Walt is dead and his physical body is in the water so when he is "seen", he is wet.
Just my thought....Should this be in "Theories"?

well from a realistic standpoint, if the producers were trying to represent that he was laying in water there would be practically no way for them to be able to do so without having him dripping profusely and continuously. i guess i just can't see how they would be able to represent that he is constantly in or under water without making him look so waterlogged.
but you're right. he could be standing under running water and it may mean something. or he could be coming directly out of the ocean. he only appears at night, so maybe he sneaks away when the others are sleeping :)

Possibly but I don't think Walt is actually physically there - I think 'he' is some type of projection - mental or otherwise.
The big question I had was - Is Walt, on his own, trying to contact the castaways to warn/protect/____ (fill in whatever you think) them or are the Others using Walt and his ability to manipulate the castaways to take some action that will benefit the Others?
Kogai 11-11-2005, 02:13 AM I like the idea of the iso-tank for esp research; or maybe even some kind of cryogentic/statis type chamber to keep him from aging until they figure out how to use him. But I was wondering if Walt maybe had a premonition of Shannon getting shot in the rain. I think he's trying to warn her, and projecting himself "wet" is a sort of clue about the circumstances surrounding her demise.
LostFANatic91 11-11-2005, 02:15 AM Wow, I think you are on to something Monkey! Cause he IS always dripping wet. But where are the tanks that he appears there so quick?
tvlover 11-11-2005, 09:56 AM I don't think he is dead but definately under observation. Twice when he appeared to Shannon he motioned to her to keep quiet (finger to lips). To me this seems like he is trying to sneak and do something without the others knowing that he is doing it.
cbsgough 11-11-2005, 09:31 PM I think he is using some form of telepathy, he is being kept in some form of water, that's why he's wet, he is trying to warn the lostaways, he has to do it thru Shannon becauseshe has vincent, but the telepathy involves mirroring images and that's why his words are always backwards.
Robinhood56 11-11-2005, 10:07 PM Maybe he is using water like a mirror and we are seeing a "wet" reflection of him. That could also explain why he talks backwards. We see his reverse image and hear him in reverse, too.
Nietsche 11-11-2005, 10:22 PM OK Robinhood, now THAT's thinking! Great theory.
waltisfuture 11-11-2005, 10:34 PM Nothing to add, but this cap seems interesting. What is in front of Wet Walt on his left side?
Shannon and Wet Walt?

This sounds like the best explaination yet!

It's a reflection of rain drops off of a leaf or such close to the camera.
