Uh, the unexpected Sayid/Shannon chemistry?

Guh. I loved Sayid, and I loved Shanon, but the thought never OCCURED. I am in such a happy place. Their chemistry was so spot on! It wasn't instamush like Charlie/Claire (which is still teh love). Much more edgy, and looking to get edgier! I am hoping that a few more viewers may have come around to realizing how insecure and defensive Shannon is rather than writing her off as just being a jerk. Sayid's such a strong, steady guy that I think we might see her open up a lot more around him... you know, if she doesn't get eaten.

I am so excited!!! :D

I loved Shannon from the get-go and always thought Sayid was pretty cool. I was defending the fluffy eyes (and Shannon--I'm a huge Shannon defender) in another post...can't remember the title, though.

I'm excited to see where they go with this.

We were talking about it in the subject titled "How about the look". *The more I think about it though, the more I agree that they did have some awesome chemistry. *I think any straight man that sees a girl sunbathing topless without a care of who's around will automatically give an interested look. *But even after that...he was still respectful towards her.

It excited me enough to become less completely antisocial and post on a message board again. * That said, having done so has overwhelmed me... I think I'll go to bed now!

Anyway! I want to hear other people's opinions, even if they're negative! I'll be back in the morning! Ha ha ha.

Another thing, because I'm a spoiler whore I had some idea of what was going to happen between Sayid and Shannon in this episode. I was a bit surprised by the chemistry between Naveen and Maggie. I wasn't sure there would be any.

The lack of things that interested me (honestly I cared very little about the briefcase. I'm a bad viewer, I know.) were made up for Sayid/Shannon. It's a beautiful thing.

Okay, when I first saw the Sayid/Shannon thing going on I was like :o WTF? Because I completely adore Sayid, and I'm generally annoyed by Shannon, but as their scenes together went on I started to change my opinion, buuut, then I started to think about it some more, and what are their ages? Because I had the impression that Shannon was much younger, and if she's as young as I get the impression she is I don't know if I can go with it. But anyway they kind of suggested that she gets eaten (?) by the island monster thing? (Although I refuse to believe it, since I'm just starting to like her) And I'm just rambling now.

So yes, I think I'm going from being a rabid Sayid fan to a rabid Sayid/Shannon shipper, but we'll see. I just can't wait until next wednesday. And does anyone know if Solitary will be re-airing anytime soon? I hate myself for missing it, even if it was for volunteer work ><.

And as for the whole case thing, some of the comments by Sawyer were funny, but I really don't give a flying rats *** about Kate or Jack really, so I was mainly just focusing on the Sayid/Shannon thing.

Haha, see, as long as you ignore the scenes without Sayid or Sawyer (The whole Kate backstory & Jack being all disappointed in her and the stupid little plane thing :P) Then this was a pretty good episode! I mean, Sawyer swimming? Sawyer trying to open the case? Sayid, well, just BEING Sayid? Pure Gold.* ;D

(Also, I think its awesome that Sun is finding out all sorts of things because they don't think she knows English, and how she's helping Jack cause she knows all about plants!* :D)

The only sad thing about this episode was no Hurly. :'( He's usually the one to keep a bit of humor in the show, although I guess Sawyer took care of that this time.

Haha, I can't get over the 'bedroom eyes' comment... teehee, sooooooo true. :D

Yeah, chemistry....wow! And am I the only one who has just about lost the love for Kate? I'm digging Shannon WAY more than her right now...and besides, Kate had her chance with Sayid. And with Jack. Heck, if Sawyer were smart, he'd get with Shannon and ditch Freckles!

Shannon just really impressed me this episode. There's a lot of insecurity behind her "uselessness," methinks, and a big ol' brain under all that blonde. I think we'll probably like her even more after next week's ep.

Hell, I'm officially in love with Shannon now. She almost had me in WEEPY TEARS OF JOY hearing her sing that song at the end. Also, what the hell Boone is the biggest JERK, dude.

I was spoiled for this part of the episode, so now it seems like this has been going forever... of course, we beat the topic to death discussing the pictures...

Being totally upspoiled about the whole Shayid thing (well, except for seeing it in a few topic titles), I was totally stunned at the chemistry that they have. I was also thinking about how Shannon implied that she followed this French guy back to Paris. Since this French guy had a kid, I assumed that he was at least a little bit older than Shannon. You think Shannon likes older guys (enter Sayid) and thus craves a father figure.

And, oh my god, if I were a guy, I'd totally fall in love with her while she was singing. In my mind, she went from eye candy to a pretty interesting character in this episode.

Shannon was in France with 'an older guy' so the age with Sayid seems natural.*

Look, Sayid is a normal, heterosexual guy and Shannon really, REALLY knows how to manipulate men. What's so surprizing that he reacted the way he did? But he will be faithful to Nadia! (please writers?) because he is just that kind of a guy. And besides, I want Andrea Gabriel to come back. She was beyond awesome as Nadia! Shannon is kinda cute in a puppyish kind of way, but Nadia is beautiful (!) and has so much depth of character that there is no comparison. We know how smart Sayid is. He will make the right choice. Hmm... I guess I don't have problems with pretty big age gaps in relationships as long as the younger person isn't under seventeen. There are lots of cases in life of couples that aren't the same age at all working out very well. Plus, from what we've seen of Shannon so far I don't think a younger man would be any good for her. Someone who's not mature and doesn't know where they're headed in life wouldn't give her the stability to get over her self esteem problems. There's always the danger in that instance of her becoming codependent instead of maturing on her own, but... I think Sayid will give her a much better chance to feel secure. Then again, how much more secure can you get than if a guy will torture someone halfway to death to get your medication for you? (As long as Sayid keeps those tendencies under control!)

Well, it could go horribly wrong, but I think that edginess give the relationship a lot of potential and engaging tension.

Don't you mean............ Sawyer's watery butt crack scene?!

LOL. Sorry. Wasn't terribly engaged. ;D

Hmm... Well, Nadia might even be dead. And, they weren't in any sort of committed thing. Even if they had a romantic undertine going, it's not necessarily the kind of thing that leads to a lasting relationship. They certainly didn't have the same whambang chemistry Sayid had with Shannon. I mean, there are people you fall in love with and love your whole life that you never have a sexual relationship with. There are women in my life that are certainly like that for me. Somone where the love comes with a deep respect and an understanding that that doesn't necessarily lead to the marriage or teh sex.

With Sayid and Nadia, I think they were sweet together, but at the same time you can't live in the past and be a healthy person.

I think you're really underwriting Shannon's depth of character. I think we've seen a lot of hints of complexity from her and as far as I understand next episode will flesh her out much further. There really aren't any shallow people in the world. Sometimes, their depths have been obsucred by years of repression, and protected by coping mechanisms that keep them from letting anyone in. Sometimes people live like that their whole lives. I think it would be a discredit to the wonderful writing we've seen so far to assume there are ANY unrealistically "shallow" characters on this show.

its interesting i had a completely different opinion on shannon after this. imho she is portrayed as a brat but maybe she had years of people/men telling her that all she was, was a pretty face and of no real use that she started believing it and doubts she can make a good contribution to anything. but sayid saw throught that and really needed her help. yes i see a relationship for them.

The Shannon/Sayid thing came totally out of the blue for me, but I loved it. Does anyone have a cap of "the Look"?

Shannon reminds me of women I've known who were abused/neglected as children, on reflection, Sayid is probably the only guy on the island with the gentleness, sensitivity and strength to be with her. I really liked the fact that she was able to be vulnerable to him. I'm looking forward to seeing where they were going with this. Like many others, it was the only part of the show that really clicked with me last night.

I hope she doesn't totally lose her bitchiness, though. Some of the best lines in the show have come from her, especially with everyone else on the show doing the sad, pensive thing (thanks TWP).

I have to admit as much as I'm not really a Shannon lover, she really made me feel for her in this episode. It was wonderful to see the interaction between her and Sayid. And how she was able to open up to him and show him her vulnerable side. I think Sayid is falling for her, especially after she was singing to him last night. You could just tell it in his eyes that he wanted to know more about her after that.

hello earth, I think she was abused by Boone. *When he states that she's useless and worthless, *she stops defending herself. *I found it odd that she would do that.

As I've stated before (because I'm a broken record) that I also hope Shannon keeps some of her bitchiness. *That's the reason I liked the character in the first place.

The look Sayid gave Shannon when he ran across her topless struck me more as uncomfortable than anything else. Muslim culture is a bit strict when it comes to nudity, so I just saw it as a culture clash.
However, I am now very much riding the Shannon/Sayid train, and I almost melted when she sang "Beyond the Sea" for him (God, I love that song! And it's so pretty in French!!). As for looks, I love the look Sayid gave Shannon when she said she learned French for a guy. They were the best part of the episode, followed closely by the coyote and roadrunner type antics of Sawyer, Kate, and the suitcase.

theG,

I think she was abused by Boone. When he states that she's useless and worthless, she stops defending herself. I found it odd that she would do that.

I'll buy that, esp. after seeing that creepy Ethan-look he had on his face when he saw her talking to Sayid. I thought that Maggie did an excellent job of showing the cracks in Shannon's defenses when she repeated those words to Sayid. Even w/o Boone being THE abuser, there is definitely a twisted codependent thing going on between the two of them.

No problem with the age gap here. When I was Shannon's age I dated plenty of older men. ;) Not creepy older, but a 10 - 12 year gap wouldn't bother me. They're both adults. Plus, they're on an island with 46 people (well, crash survivors anyway) so they don't really have a lot of choices. Plus, he *is* Sayid!!!!

I've always defended Shannon, but I started to really like her this ep. I think she just may be Sayid worthy!!

the best part of the episode was the mysterious tide and very well could have been the notes that Shannon decyfered. The song? Weak.

This show was all about the better glimpse of the metal.

Main problem with this is that you're thinking like a woman. Sayid is a heterosexual male stuck on an island with a beautiful woman who seems to be attracted to him. I'm just saying how I think as a guy.

I do hope Sayid pulls himself together and befriends Shannon, okay, because they do need to work together on deciphering that info from Danielle.* If I weren't scared of huge monsters and boogiemen living underground, I'd be there for him in a minute!* ;)* But I can't get time off from work.* *;)* And I have some appointments I really have to keep.* *;)* And, you know, my bank account just recently got healthy and I really don't want to drain it buying a plane ticket, when Sayid and I don't actually have a committment.*

Haha, I've totally jumped onto the Shannon/Sayid shipper bandwagon! I'm still a little surprised how much I've grown to like this pairing, considering that it came comepletely out of the blue (for me anyway). But yes, the looks Sayid was giving her were the best, and my opinion of Shannon has completely changed, and I'm suspicious of Boone now (I never really liked him). I can't wait until next week's episode! :o

I KNOW!!! I did happen to REALLY like the scene with Sawyer, but I am so stuck on what I have affectionately named Shayid now. I am a Sayid/Shannon shipper all the way. BTW, to let whoever it was that asked know, I am fairly certain that Shannon is of legal age. I really think she is. Besides, Sayid cannot be older than twenty-six I don't think.

At first, I really hated Shannon, but I think that her character is starting to seriously develop. I really like what I am seeing and I think that Shayid would be a good match. Lots of fire. Also, the mismatched personalities is too cool. I think that maybe Shannon has a creative side and she is a really good singer. She and Sayid are my two favorite characters.

I am really hoping that Shannon DOES NOT get eaten. I CANT BEAR TO SEE HER EATEN!! NUUUUUUUUU!!!!!!! I swear...someone shall die if she gets eaten. *snarls*. Anyway, Shannon and Sayid BETTER be together in the end, and am I the ONLY one who seems to think that Jack/Kate is totally boring? I really like the Walt/Sun thing going on. SHAYID ALL THE WAY!!! YEAH YEAH YEAH BOY!!
