those numbers can be anything of course. u can combine them with anything really. doesnt mean ANYTHING heh.
4th of april 1581: Frances Drake completres circumnavigation of the world, proving the earth is not flat
8th of april 1946: United Nations assemble for first time
15th of april 1912: Titanic sinks... A slew of bad movies follow
16th of april 1981: The first American space shutte, Columbia, returns safely to Earth
23rd of april 1984: The United States announce the discovery of the AIDS virus
4th of february(42) 1938: Adolf Hitler takes command of the German Army
this must mean all of this has something to do with lost!!
or just add up each numbers in various ways and u can find resemblance to anything like that aswell..

it can go on an on. isnt it enough the numbers appear everywhere in the show? I doubt u'll ever find what those numbers mean untill the end of the series, even then...

The writers said that the Yankees thing was a conincidence..but you never know.

The writers have also said how surprised they are that the numbers caught on with such fanfare. They said that they didnt expect the interest in them that people have given.

Which leads me to believe there is nothing significant about them at all, except for in the reality of Lost.

thats what happens when you constantly show something over and over again to the viewers. People tend to feel that something is important about those numbers and they start looking for that throughout the episodes and lose told track about what the episode is truely meaning

I think the numbers do mean something but I don't think they are evil or have a power or are cursed. I think they were a signal or something but not much more than that.

We finally found out what the true meaning behind the numbers are.
They are all retired new york yankee players
Main Cabin:
4 - Lou Gehrig
8 - Yogi Berra
15 - Thurman Munson
16 - Whitey Ford
23 - Don Mattingly
42 - Jackie Robinson

Tailies
3 - Babe Ruth
9 - Roger Maris

Guess the Island is a Yankee fan

We dont actually know the numbers have played no significance to the tailies- we havent seen enough of what has happened to them, maaaybe next week. And maybe they have, we just dont know about it or teh Tailies just arent aware. The only reason WE know is because Hurley is somehow conected to them, if it wasnt for him Jack et al would be totally in the dark.

You are correct...but the number 42 was retired throughout the MLB in honor of Jackie Robinson. Take a look
