View Full Version : No, My Head Hasn't Exploded!!!
LockeMeUp 01-06-2005, 10:32 AM Everyone is far too convinced of Locke's "evilness" that that if he scratched his butt counterclockewise, they'd be sure he was Satan himself!
If I am not mistaken, the general consensus on this board is that Boone is some kind of nutjob and/or he is the one who is off his meds. Locke could have been hitting him for that reason.
Me, I am going with him trying to control Boone for his own protection or to prevent mass hysteria on the island.
THOU NOT KNOWEST THE BENEVOLENT WAYS OF LOCKE, FOR THOU ART BUT A HUMAN AND NOT A WOOBIE! SO SAYETH LOCKEMEUP, DISCIPLE OF LOCKE AND PROFET OF THE WOOBIE!!!!!!!
*ahem* Anywho. I am going on record right now. If Locke turns to the darkside......so shall I. Whereth the Woobie goes, I go! *play ominous music here*
Who else is with Woobie?!?
diabolo237 01-06-2005, 10:37 AM I am with ya, I dont think Locke is evil. I think he knows whats good for everyone and just isnt patient about leading people in the right direction. If Locke was evil, why would he have spend so much time trying to help a junkie (Charlie) recover? Most people wouldnt care that much.
Therefore Locke is not evil (although I am not sure what a woobie is, so I cant comment on that :))
babygotbackgammon 01-06-2005, 10:44 AM I just mentioned this elsewhere, but remember how Locke had felt responsible for Claire/Charlie's kidnapping, how he had been with Ethan all that time and never noticed anything "off" about him? What if he sees Boone acting erratically (which he SO is) and, not wanting a repeat of what happened before, is more ready to try to restrain anything he might see as dangerous behavior patterns?
alk31173 01-06-2005, 11:09 AM :-* I'm with ya!!!! I don't think Locke is the evil one. Locke is awesome. Kate = EVIL
Of course Locke isn't evil. I don't think Kate is evil either. It seems to me that one of the central themes of "Lost" is that no person can be pigeonholed and good or evil. Ever since the backgammon game, dark and light have been seen together.
Islander 01-06-2005, 11:49 AM Locke isn't evil! He's cool! :D Boone didn't scare me until last night and then I saw a close up of his eyes. He's like a cat...never know when he'll pounce, lol.
Nanse 01-06-2005, 11:58 AM Well I'm with you. *I think it is way to easy, obvious and conventional to pigeonhole Locke as evil. *Besides, *as kena said, the whole point of Lost thus far is that people are more than they appear, and are not easily defined. *To write Locke off as evil is dismissing any depth to him. *
For now, I am withholding judgement on Locke (well aside from the fact that I LOVE his character irregardless of whether he ends up "good" or "evil"). *Right now my impression is that he generally doesn't mean harm, but does have an agenda that he believes is the right way to do things, and thus will do what he has to to protect it (i.e per next weeks preview smashing Boone in the head to prevent him from telling the metal hatchway secret ). *I think like all of the characters, he is capable of good (look at helping Charlie with his drug habit), *but has the potential to be very dangerous. *
Ultimately though, as long as they don't jump the shark with is character, I will be a Locke fan no matter if he ends up toward the "good" or "evil" end of things.
WhiteSapphire 01-06-2005, 12:05 PM I think Locke is just very in tune with nature. If we take this all the way, then we think of Locke as an animal (not an animal as wild, but as an animal as in an integral part of nature), then animals can't be either good or evil. They are simply trying to survive. Well, I think everything Locke has done so far has been for the good of the group. He will challenge people, but that is only to make them better. Locke doesn't feel the need to justify his actions as either good or evil, but is always cognizent of the results of his actions.
Did that make sense? This is just an ill-formed theory that popped into my head. The basic idea I have is that Locke can't be evil, because in order to be evil, you have to make a conscieous decision to do so.
jacknkate1 01-06-2005, 12:06 PM I dont think Locke is evil....I'm sure he has reason for doing what he does to boone....but as most of you have already stated...Lost is about not judging people right away because there is sooo much more to everyone than meets the eye....<o>

I think that makes a lot of sense. Especially about his not justifying actions that he thinks are correct, and being very cognizent of the result of his actions. I totally agree with that. If you though of Locke and the others as playing chess (or backgammon as is appropriate), then the others are generally thinking to the immediate benefits of the next move or two, while Locke is very aware of the need to consider the effect on his move choices five and six moves down the line. I also get the impression that he believes what he is doing is the right way of doing things and for the best.

themarvelousmattyd 01-06-2005, 03:43 PM 'Locke's ways are beyond our ways and his thoughts beyond our thoughts...'
We don't even know if boone was actually ATTACKED by Locke... the first thing I thought of after that shot to the back of the head was when Kate's BF smacked her upside the face...
I've got faith that Locke will turn out to have this situation under control, just wait and see.
Irish Red 01-06-2005, 03:46 PM Locke is NOT evil! I am ALWAYS on the side of the omnipotent Woobie!
ETA: Kate really is the devil
desertislandgirl 01-06-2005, 03:47 PM I'm with you - I posted this elsewhere, but my thought is that locke always acts as a catalyst, helping people to make the right choice, ie. charlie and the drugs. However, Boone has clearly chosen wrongly and it's up to Locke to protect Boone and/or the other survivors.
I also noticed Shannon running saying "help me!" and then gets pulled up. She might be being rescued when she's pulled into the tree vs. strung up...
conspiricytheory 01-06-2005, 03:53 PM Locke has often acted weird, but he has always had an explaination for it. I can't believe he is evil in any way. He seems to understand something about the island, and he slowly seems to be helping each person through some ordeal. Already he helped Charlie and Jack, so I find it hard to believe he turned on Boone for no reason. I think were going to find next week he had a good reason for hitting Boone like we saw on the teaser.
