View Full Version : What was missing..
subtlepanicmaven 01-06-2005, 11:03 AM So I was sitting here trying to figure out what exactly it was that made the episode feel.. so.... empty to me..
trying to determine what was missing..
and it hit me..
HURLEY..
there weren't really any classic Hurley lines or moments...!!
I have laughed in each and every episode up until this one, which didn't even make me chuckle once! And I think that's due to the lack of Hurley's presence...
he always brings a well needed ( apparently) levity to the eps..
sigh... hope that we'll be seeing more of him soon!!
The_Sheppardess 01-06-2005, 11:13 AM I think you may be right. I missed Hurley too!
During last night's episode I also had a feeling of unfamiliarity, and I think it was because everything got switched around. Jack, Sawyer and Kate (and even Charlie) aren't the same person they were an episode ago. I know this is good, because it shows growth, but it also left me feeling like the show wasn't the same one I become so familiar with.
I think a few good (and familiar) Hurley moments would have helped. ;)
cashmere lady 01-06-2005, 11:20 AM There was one Hurley moment I noticed.
Can't remember exactly what he said, but some comment about how impossible it would be for Sawyer to open the case. And then he laughed, so energetically, contageously, and Hurley-like  that I laughed out loud.

Michael was telling Sawyer that he can't open a "insert name of fancy brand of briefcase here" without a key
Hurley walks up and asks what is going on. Mike says "He's trying to open a "insert name of fancy brand of briefcase here" without a key."
Hurley bursts out laughing and walks on.
It was funny
eahollen 01-06-2005, 11:40 AM I believe he said it was a "Haliburton" case. Both Hurley and Michael seemed familier with the brand and it's 'un-openability'

This looks like the case to me.
I95 to I4 01-06-2005, 11:50 AM Im just wondering how Michael or Hurley would even know what a Haliburton is, or that they are hard to open. *We dont know much about these two, but it struck me as strange that they would know.
jacknkate1 01-06-2005, 11:53 AM Yea I thought it was weird they knew too, but they Hurley laughed and I just stared cracking up......we def. need more hurley scenes...I mean I loved last nights ep...but it was very dark after the initial waterfall scene
czardingus 01-06-2005, 09:21 PM Hurley's comment makes one wonder what type of "warrior" would have use for a Halliburton case...
whistler 01-06-2005, 09:29 PM Hurley's laugh made me think he had no idea what a Halliburton was. That's why his laugh seemed a little over the top - cause he really didn't know. At least, that was my interpretation. *shrug*

I got a totally different feel from this scene. I took it to mean that Hurley knew EXACTLY what a Halliburton was and how difficult it would be to open. And I agree this episode needed more Hurley. More Sun. Walt. And whatever happened to Vicent? Remember when he watched everything and was so spooky? Good to see Rose again.
Michael said something about the case that reminded me of a scene in the movie "Three Kings." When the guys are stealing the gold, one of them comments about how much weight each bag could carry. Turns out he was a baggage handler before he was a soldier. So when Michael made that comment l thought, "Was he a baggage handler in the past?"
welshmuse 01-06-2005, 10:32 PM I agree fully with the "we need more Hurley!" sentiment....here's hoping the writers will see this and take the hint ;D
I did laugh during this episode though--Sawyer totally cracked me up, expecially when he was banging the case against the rocks and yelling "Son of a!"
offamychain 01-07-2005, 12:30 AM Did anyone ever remember seeing the Korean guy?? Maybe Michael killed him sometime around Christmas. 8) 8) 8)
I really didn't pay much attention to the episode as it de-volved from a suspense filled mystery into a romantic, & pretty much absurd, story between Kate & Sawyer.
I said that those two would be the next to hook up after she had her brief "no shirt" fling with Jack. Who wants to bet that Sayid's the next one that gets to see her body?? Not sure which guy will be the 4th though.
I want the monsters, polar bears, & the mysterious French woman back......in other words, the Lost that was lost between last season & this one. >:( >:( >:(
Cardielost 01-07-2005, 01:08 AM ^^This is all the same season, the first. They just took some time out for reruns as all shows do. Because there are 22 episodes to a season and 52 weeks to a year, networks save new episodes for the three "sweeps" periods in November, February and May and scatter the other ten around them. But they always have to intersperse reruns. When ABC and FOX decided that they'd rather run Alias and 24 without rerun interruptions, they didn't premiere their new seasons until January.

offamychain 01-07-2005, 04:27 AM OK, so I don't know the real technical stuff.
Edit it to say, "The Lost that was lost between the time that it stopped playing in 2004 & when it started again in 2005."* ;D ;D ;D
