Kates dad was an army ranger, stationed at Ft. Worth. Some of the things I have been reading about them say they were airborne. So the plane probably belonged to her dad. some info about the rangers:
The modern Ranger Battalions were first called upon in 1980 as elements of 1st Battalion, 75th Infantry (Ranger) to participate in the Iranian hostage rescue attempts. The ground work of our Special Operations capability of today was laid during training and preparation for this operation. Rangers and other Special Operations Forces from throughout the Department of Defense developed tactics, techniques, and equipment from scratch, as no doctrine existed anywhere in the world.
The 2nd Battalion, 75th Infantry (Ranger) soon followed with activation on October 1, 1974. These elite units eventually established headquarters at Hunter Army Airfield, Ga., and Fort Lewis, Wash., respectively.

One other interesting piece about the Rangers in Ft Lewis:
The basic implement of this innovative idea would be an organization on the ground at Fort Lewis known as the High Technology Test Bed (HTTB). The Test Bed was to explore all types of equipment, military and civilian, foreign and domestic, which would be suitable for the new unit. They were to acquire this equipment in the most expeditious way possible, short cutting the normal 10-15 year procurement cycle. In the meantime, the Test Bed, along with the 9th Division and under the guidance of the Chief of Staff of the Army, would develop the tactics and employment doctrine to be used by this High Technology Light Division (HTLD).
Formation of the HTTB began in 1980. In the late summer the Army Science Board met at Fort Lewis for a week. When it left, there was an idea of what the Test Bed should be doing, and from that, what structure it should take. By early 1982, the Test Bed was beginning to deal with equipment, and had begun to formalize the structure of HTLD. On 14 April 1983, the HTTB became the Army Development and Employment Agency (ADEA). As time went on, the activity's function changed; and in March 1990, it was redesignated the Army Tactical Command and Control Experimentation Site.
another thing I noticed is that she said she killed a man she loved. She is feeling guilt over his death and feels responsible, but we dont know if she actually killed him yet. Sayid is feeling the same type of guilt over Nadia, he believes he was responsible for her death. Jack feels guilt over the death of his father, he also may feel responsible for his death. Am I missing anyone else? I wonder if this has something to do with the connection they have, or the reason they survived.
