At least not here in Canada!

The ads did seem shorter so maybe that's how they did it....

the episode rocked but the extended episode was false advertising, it was maybe 3 minutes extra

You're right, the ad was very misleading. I thought it might be 2 hours, but then I checked the time in the paper. No such luck.

It was to only be extended by a total of 5 minutes. :) So if you started at 9:00 it ran until 10:05.

I still say also that it wasn't extended 'cause all they did was show stuff we already had seen! :) But, at least they showed the Ana/Shannon thing more clearly... I am eating crow, but happy nonetheless! :)

You mean you missed out on the part where Eko got into a fist fight with the security system, which turned out to be a giant robot t-rex? Aww man, tough luck!

... I'm just kidding, of course. It was a robot ALLOSAUR, not tyrannosaur.

For real, that part came on right after the credits. Anyone that missed that doesn't deserve to watch Lost anymore. I especially liked the part where you thought the Allosaur was dead and then pirates came exploding out of the robotic carcass... the special effects were incredible!!!!!

Nah, but seriously, they said it was extended because it ran about 5 or so minutes overtime. I think last year people who recorded the show were complaining that it got cut off, so they decided to warn people...

Running things past the hour or half hour is done in my town with the news. So the news runs from 10:00 to 10:35. (Central Time Zone)

This was started by one station so that those watching their news would miss the first few minutes of shows on competing stations. I think it's done during prime time for the same reason. They want you to stay with LOST while the shows on other stations are starting. The thinking is then you'll keep watching the show after LOST on ABC rather than try to catch up with whats happened on another channel.

They don't want to give us more. They just want us to watch longer. In that case, 5 minutes accomplishes the goal.

yea, a whole THREE freakin minutes!!! what genious in the board room would've thought, that when they say "extended" we might be expecting more than THREE MINUTES!!!!! its freakin pathetic...I understand, november sweeps, false advertising, but from LOST?! come on!!! I never expected them to blatenly lie to us!!!

Ditto.

I'd say we probaby got close to an extra 15 minutes when it was all said and done.

Does anyone know exactly how many minutes the show was, minus the commercials? The "extended" part kinda sucked because it was alot we have already seen. But it was a good episode

:) Wouldn't accomplish the goal with me! That's why God made Tivo, lol. :D

The show was 45mins without commercials, normally it's about 42/43mins, so I wouldn't call it extended.

In Canada, I put it on the ABC station that was playing the episode, but CTV hijacked the channel. (As they usually do) The show ended at exactly 10pm then cut back to ABC where it was playing the extra few minutes. CTV plays Invasion at 8pm and CSI:NY at 10pm & I guess they didn't want to cut into either show. So they either played fewer commercials or cut a scene.

It was the first time that I got to see both the Canadian and American previews for next week and boy were they different!! I guess I'll have to wait to read the transcripts to see if I really did miss out on anything, but I'm still happy that I got to see both previews.

Man are there a lot of complainers! Extended. Not extended. Who cares???

For those of you with Tivo, didn't Tivo automatically record the extra minutes? For those of you with VCRs, aren't you glad you had the warning so you COULD check the TV Guide and reset your recording times accordingly, so as not to miss the last three to five minutes of the show??

Be happy that the show is on the air at all, and that you have the eyes and ears to enjoy it!

Just my humble opinion

There were definately less commercials. I am usually fuming by the end of an episode b/c there are so many commercial breaks. It just completely breaks up the suspense and flow of the show... "buy sparkle brand happiness powder"... So yes, it was a little longer, but probably only by 5-10min.

Misleading advertising...

It would be misleading advertising if they had said "Tune in for a 90 minute Lost episode!" and then filled the extra time with more commercials. Just because it wasn't as long as you'd have liked it doesn't mean that you got cheated.

Best episode of the season! The last part showing just flashes to bring us up past what we've already seen...really well done.

I concur. Each week I tape the show on my VCR for my husband and for myself so I can rewatch it. When I tape it, I pause out the commercials and since the counter clock is on, I usually see how long the show is without commercials. Each normal episode runs about 41-42 minutes and last night's ran about 44-45 minutes.

This is a bit off topic but has anyone ever noticed that the commercials often appear at certain minutes? I started to notice that a normal episode has commercials at about 8 minutes, 15 or 16 minutes and at 23 minutes. See a pattern? :) Last night's the number of minutes was not the same usual Hurley numbers. I don't recall what it is though. I'll have to rewatch to find out.

Not only me, but a friend both saw a advert that said a special 2 hour LOST. I only saw it once though. Sucks it was only 4 mins longer. How is that extended really?!

That's the way commercial television works. You will find most prime time shows have commercial breaks at about the same time and the show segments are about the same length. That is controlled by the network, not the show.

It was "extended" so those that tape it or Tivo etc would be able to set their recordings and not miss anything. Last year there was such the stink that a few of the eps ran over the hour time frame and the endings were not captured. I think it was more just a courtesy to the fan that tapes it.
