Possibly he just grabbed the first seat he could find when things started going bad on the flight?

he did the same as Charlie, who was also in the bathroom as the plane started to have problems, grabbed the first seat near him. I'm still puzzled how Charlie ended up with the fuselage survivors, since I thought that he was in the front of the plane

There are usually bathrooms in the front and back of planes. I'm pretty sure they showed Charlie going to the bathroom at the front of the plane, and then strapping himself into a seat in first class.

yeah, but i think all the first class people were way up in the front of the plane, and they all died. he must have made it back behind first class by shannon and boone.

Charlie defiantely didn't, he only made it a few seats down, in first class. Shannon and Boone were in business too, not first.

Yeah, that was bugging me too:undecide: , until I read the other posts that mentioned Bernard may have pulled a Charlie. It will be interesting to see what another plane flashback will reveal about what the other survivors were doing prior to the crash.

Perhaps Bernard was "placed" there. I remember reading something a long while back where a member of the creative team commented on how Jack had "landed" so far away from the other fuselage survivors, and that it was not a coincidence.
