what is the purpose of the arrow on the inside of the hatch that the tailies found. on all of the dharma memorabilia that we have seen so far the swan has been in the background and now it is an arrow. i mean even on the "orientation" video it pops up at the beginning and says something like "the swan". which means that the swan is very important to how this project is being studied. so does the arrow mean that the tallies are subject to a different type of study than our cast. i mean they have been put through a lot different scenario than our cast has been, our cast has not had to deal with the others much at all. also does anyone remember which symbol the shark had on its fin? was it the one with the arrow or the one with the swan? or since it is in the water does it mean maybe that it has its own own symbol because those affected by it are in another different situation. love to hear what people have to say about this.

P.S. I LOVED THE EPI!!!!

The swan was station 3 of 6. The arrow (maybe even "the archer") is station 4 of 6. Or 6 of 6. Or something. They're likely just names.

I thought the shark had the arrow.

Since the Arrow is Zoology.

It's assumed there are 6 stations, each with it's own sybmol. The Swan was the symbol for Station 3. The Arrow would be the symbol for the station the tailies find. The logo on the shark probably comes from another station.

The significance of the arrow is to say...hey things are looking up, you've found shelter.

One current theory is that all the symbols are constellations.

I've mentioned before that swans are a sacred animal to a certain Greek god who has a candy bar that is popular among Island residents named after him.. who also happens to be talented with bow and arrow.. To give you a hint, his name begins with A and ends with pollo.

If the constellation theory is correct, the remaining logos will have a Cup, a Snake, a Hunter, and a Crow.

The symbol surrounding both the arrow and the swan is called a bagua - I read that in feng shui, a bagua is supposed to protect from "poison arrows" or negative energy. Maybe the hatches served as safe havens?

Isn't that kind of obvious since the inside says "Quarentine"

i've been hearing that since we first saw a glimpse of the arrow in the begining of this season

I have a question.......When did we first see the arrow this season? The reason I ask is this: Awhile back there appeared another "apparent" Dharma video....This one depicted information for all of the Dharma stations, except that it had numerous "errors" in it. I am sure most of you have seen it and remember that it was more or less debunked as a fake. The question is this, if we had not yet seen the arrow, how would the "faker" have known about it....unless he or she was an inside person. Sledgeweb, do you recall when we first saw the Dharma arrow? I suppose it must have been on the shark....if so, do you recall when the newer purported Dharma video first appeared?

that video came out after we saw the logo on the wall after libby and ana brought the rafties to the arrow hatch a few episodes ago which was like 2 months ago

I dont know if this has been posted on before, I searched but I couldnt find anything.
Last night's rerun of TO48D I noticed something as they were in the hatch for the first time on a crate sitting off to the side. I can't really tell if it's anything though.. it was very dark and I dont have good software to fix up the image.
It kinda looks like a Dharma logo, but I cant be sure.

Swan might refer to Ingo Swann, who was (is?) a major player in the development of remote viewing at the Stanford Research Center. Remote viewing, as everyone knows, is one of the projects of the Hanso Foundation.

I think remote viewing had something to do with the polar bear, seen in a comic book by Walt, and maybe Vincent, who may have been there when the bear was shot.

Could the Cup be in the caves where Adam & Eve were found and the drinking water is found.

The cave in could of covered the hatch.

I really like the constellation theory! There is a post in another thread by someone called Tiberius (one of the writing staff I think) where he refers to the people who run after michael in a recent ep after he wigs out and disappears into the jungle as being "crow, dog, snake, and scorpion." Maybe the contellations refer to people and not to stations.

We are talking about the bagua on another thread:
http://www.thefuselage.com/Threaded/showthread.php?p=755461#post755461

it seems that one of the hexagrams from the I ching (proper name Zhou Yi) represents a swan. Let me copy some material from that thread here:

The Heng Hexagram in the Zhou Yi represents the wild swan or goose.

Here's what the Zhou yi has to say about this:

Hexagram Number 32
Keyword(s):Continuity
Symbolic of: constancy

THE HĂNG HEXAGRAM

http://www.paranormality.com/hex0032.jpg

The General Meaning
Hăng indicates successful progress and no error (in what it denotes). But the advantage will come from being firm and correct; and movement in any direction whatever will be advantageous.

Explanation of the separate lines
1. The first SIX, divided, shows its subject deeply (desirous) of long continuance. Even with firm correctness there will be evil; there will be no advantage in any way.
2. The second NINE, undivided, shows all occasion for repentance disappearing.
3. The third NINE, undivided, shows one who does not continuously maintain his virtue. There are those who will impute this to him as a disgrace. However firm he may be, there will be ground for regret.
4. The fourth NINE, undivided, shows a field where there is no game.
5. The fifth SIX, divided, shows its subject continuously maintaining the virtue indicated by it. In a wife this will be fortunate; in a husband, evil.
6. The topmost SIX, divided, shows its subject exciting himself to long continuance. There will be evil.

I'm not sure about this one but...

The arrow in the dharma symbol from the tailies could be Xie, which represents freedom or liberation (there are references to arrows in this Hexagram's explanation).

Hexagram Number 40
Keyword(s):Liberation
Symbolic of: freedom from or liberation

THE KIEH HEXAGRAM

http://www.paranormality.com/hexagram0040.jpg

The General Meaning
In (the state indicated by) Kieh advantage will be found in the south-west. If no (further) operations be called for, there will be good fortune in coming back (to the old conditions). If some operations be called for, there will be good fortune in the early conducting of them.

Explanation of the separate lines
1. The first SIX, divided, shows that its subject will commit no error.
2. The second NINE, undivided, shows its subject catch, in hunting, three foxes, and obtain the yellow (= golden) arrows. With firm correctness there will be good fortune.
3. The third SIX, divided, shows a porter with his burden, (yet) riding in a carriage. He will (only) tempt robbers to attack him. However firm and correct he may (try to) be, there will be cause for regret.
4. (To the subject of) the fourth NINE, undivided, (it is said), 'Remove your toes. Friends will (then) come, between you and whom there will be mutual confidence.'
5. The fifth SIX, divided, shows (its subject), the superior man (= the ruler), executing his function of removing (whatever is injurious to the idea of the hexagram), in which case there will he good fortune, and confidence in him will be shown even by the small men.
6. In the sixth SIX, divided, we see a feudal prince (with his bow) shooting at a falcon on the top of a high wall, and hitting it. (The effect of his action) will be in every way advantageous.
