View Full Version : Losties are IDIOTS!!! They could get off the island if...
CountChocula 11-17-2005, 03:05 AM What are the Losties thinking????????
Desmond & the hatch are their best/only chance of getting off the island.
They should've held Desmond at gunpoint, and asked the following:
- Where does your food supply come from?
- Do you have any contact with the outside world?
If Desmond refused to answer, shoot him in the leg. Threaten to shoot again. After all, he may die -- but if he doesn't provide answers, MORE lostaways will die...
And if all else fails, set up sentries around the hatch's other opening, for when "they" deliver the next food supplies. Sayid etc. will have guns. Make them take us back off this island.
What idiots they were, to let Desmond get away!! Esp. when Jack recognized him , from his backstory.... Nothing is making sense.
WHY is this not being addressed??? WHY has the whole hatch solution been abruptly written off?
Alonia 11-17-2005, 03:09 AM WHY has the whole hatch solution been abruptly written off?
It's not gone. It just hasn't been mentioned in a few weeks. The plot hasn't disspeared, I'm sure. There are prolly a ton more secrets in that hatch.
And the reason why the Losties didn't what you say they should (assuming it was possiable) was because then the show would be over.
CountChocula 11-17-2005, 03:19 AM Alonia,
Every single viewer -- and I mean, EVERY viewer -- is asking the same question:
Why did they not detain Desmond (esp. after he dropped his weapon)?
And, why are they not plotting to jump the next food-delivery? OBVIOUSLY this is the link to the outside world --- i.e., rescue.
HELLO ?????
Alonia 11-17-2005, 03:21 AM Because obviously you know every single viewer that watches the show personally.
CountChocula 11-17-2005, 03:23 AM So: NO ONE else here believes they should've used Desmond's hideaway as a way off the outside world and, subsequently off the island?
CountChocula 11-17-2005, 04:21 AM Wow... No Lost fans who want to hear this??
Do you seriously want to rot on the island, even a a bunker -- complete with food delivery -- ignores you??
CountChocula 11-17-2005, 01:02 PM Because obviously you know every single viewer that watches the show personally.
You are one of the bashers, I see.
Renault 11-17-2005, 01:12 PM I bellieve Jack asked Desmond if he had any contact with the Dharma people, and he said somethign to the effect of "would I still be here if I did?"
In other words, he has no contact. Maybe there's a food stash somewehre else on the island that he occasionally visits. Maybe that's where he took off to. Who knows. Point is, he hasn't heard from anyone.
So: NO ONE else here believes they should've used Desmond's hideaway as a way off the outside world and, subsequently off the island?
Instead of blasting everyone who disagrees with you, ever think the supplies might just be air-dropped?
Dyani 11-17-2005, 01:33 PM Even if they did try to force some answers out of Desmond, (assuming that he does somehow know how to get off the island and just hasn't felt like leaving yet?) what would happen then? They'd call up a rescue boat to swing by and bring them home. End of show. Why would we want that to happen so soon?
FreeBaGeL 11-17-2005, 01:36 PM I was under the impression that the supplies were what was leftover from the get-go, not that there was some monthly drop off of refreshments or something. The people on the island certainly treated the food as if it was the last of it (in Hurley's episode), and not as if more were on its way.
ExistentialAngel 11-18-2005, 12:56 AM I think Jack let Desmond go primarily because he didn't want to have to continue to face, or answer questions about, the synchronicity of Desmond's presence on the island. Secondarily, there seems to be a 'live and let live' sort of attitude among Jack's group. They let Sayid leave when he wanted to, Charlie is still free even though he basically murdered a defenseless captured man in plain view of several witnesses.
On the point of questioning Desmond so as to get off the island--of the three people who initially saw Desmond, Kate and Locke don't really want to leave the island, and Jack, the only one who really would have probed for the necessary answers, was too distracted by Desmond's presence to stay on track.
What's bothered me though, is why hasn't the group forced Rousseau to show them all the stashes she knows about? She did show them The Black Rock, but she had a shelter with equipment, knows where the radio tower is, states the monster is a security system, etc. I'd be grilling her.
CountChocula 11-18-2005, 01:13 AM They estimated there was enough food for Desmond for three months. Hence, more is on the way. I doubt it's air-lifted (didn't he pour eggs into the blender?). It would seem this is a link to the outside world.
Anyway my point is: They just let this go. The hatch was the season cliffhanger last year, and they opened this season with shots of Desmond. Now that story is kaput, evidently dropped by the writers.
LostPack 11-18-2005, 01:13 AM I suggest you rewatch all the episodes.
1. There is no indication at all that there is any ongoing food supply coming in or more important that Desmond has any idea where the food came from or when. If Desmond did know, it's doubtful he'd have remained in a secluded hatch pressing a button every 108 minutes.
2. None of Desmonds actions or anything he said point to him as being anthing more than an unknowing and unwilling part of things. If he had contact with anyone, he probably wouldn't have been surprised there was a world still out there. Nor would he have continued to press a button. He would likely have continued on his personal journey.
3. The hatch has not been written off. There is nothing about Desmond that would likely to help anyone get off the island. There is constant "staffing" of the hatch - the losties are taking shifts down there.
4. It would seem the losties have paid attention to whats going on as far as desmond is concerned and would realize that shooting him or torturing him would not help them. They're not the idiots.
MFerris 11-18-2005, 02:08 AM We are still only +48 days since 815 crashed on the island. The Hatch was opened on , what, the 44th day? You have to factor in "Island Time" when you ask questions because chances are they are going to do some of the things you've suggested. My guess is that there's yet another twist that will slip right by the gang.:ohwell:
Renault 11-18-2005, 02:50 AM Ok, I guess no one heard me the first time, but Desmond specifically states that he hasn't had any contact with anyone from Dharma. From the Orientation script:
Jack: Are you in contact with the people that made it? The film. Are you in contact with anyone?
Desmond: Do you think I'd be here if I was?
and then...
Jack: So these replacements...
Desmond: Kelvin died waiting for his replacements.
Seems obvious to me that Desmond hasn't had any contact with anyone, let alone Dharma.
Shepherd 11-18-2005, 02:55 AM Why would anyone want to get off The Island? I can really only speak for myself (about a fictional island) but they seem to have everything they need as long as they work to get it. This seems like an entirely reasonable way to achieve true happiness.
You have your survival pyramid of water (river), food (hunter gatherer and the beginnings of agriculture), shelter (necessity is the mother of invention), health (Doc Foxy/Sun), security (Brains, sticks, knives, guns, Locke/Sayid*), companionship (at least for the cool survivors), tools (NITMOI), leisure (Golf).
Not only that. Those things are what you need to get to the next day. They don't improve your quality of living.
You need mystery and danger to truly be alive.
You are on the same island I'm on right? I think they'll be fine.
I would not be happy on that island if there wasn't a monster. Or, at least, something to make me wonder; beyond nature (which does have it's limits without the proper equipment).
*Why hasn't anyone made a bow and arrow yet? Everyone could be armed with projectiles. This is the idea of surviving progressing into living.
I would be in paradise there. Have fun on your raft.
Renault 11-18-2005, 03:01 AM Yeah, a mysterious monster, some super-powerful humans that want to kill you, and an electromagnetic reactor that could blow up the entire island at any moment. Who'd want to leave? :)
Oh, and I think it's typhoon season as well...
Shepherd 11-18-2005, 11:48 AM To each his own. I'd stay and love it.
Souls_Descend 11-18-2005, 12:02 PM I think Alonia said it best, if they got off the island, there would be no more show. That is why whenever characters have a chance, they always ask the very barest amount of questions to an aggravating degree to keep the mystery going (ie. Sayid to Danielle, Jack/Locke to Desmond) or they don't get to ask any questions at all (Charlie and Claire have amnesia, Ethan is shot before questioning, Goodwin is killed too soon) ect ect
And I don't think the hatch is forgotton, but the show has simply grown in scale. The advantage is that you have more plot, more mystery, more characters to work with. The problem is, you have more plot, more mystery, more characters to work with. The more this develops, the more time it will take to give every loose end equal time to be tied up.
ennui108 11-18-2005, 12:04 PM I think it's interesting that you suggest Jack shoot Desmond in the leg if he refuses to stay. Remember, Jack wasn't exactly too happy with himself the last time he had to resort to violence in an interigation.
It seems obvious to me- if Desmond and the hatch were really the keys to getting off this island, Desmond wouldn't be there anymore. I don't think there is a food delivery, and if the full pantery isn't explained, then it isn't explained. Sometimes the Lostaways don't get all the answers. Sometimes we don't either. I like it that way. It makes things feel more... real.
I know that about a third of the audience goes into a little screaming fit every time questions go unanswered, but everytime they do, I wonder what it is they want exactly? For one of the Others to just stroll into camp and deliver the standard Bond villian-style speach: "So you see, Mr. Shepherd, that is why we have brought you to this island. And now...you must die!"? I think the show is doing a brilliant job as is.
mbsieve 11-18-2005, 12:04 PM yeh Desmond has had no contact with anyone or anything. he has no answers about food supplies. from the look of it supplies are likely droped off once a decade or so...more of the hatch is coming. the writers just need to catch up with some other developing storylines. word is that locke and ecko will...
discover something important about the missing parts of the instructional film and that there will an incident with Michael and the computer...
good things to come. honestly all tv shows are stupid if you break them down enough. just find a way to sit back and enjoy the ride..because that is all it is...
DOMinatrix 11-18-2005, 12:12 PM yea, desmond told Jack that he didnt have any contact with the outside world... which is pretty obvious too since he's still on the island not knowing why he has to press the stupid button.
and yea, i also wondered why they didnt really ask more questions about the food deliveries.
and in my personal opinion.... i dont think that Desmond made it off the island. Otherwise why wouldnt the rest of them go with him? I have a feeling that Desmond is still on the island somehow... maybe he bumped into Danielle and she kept him for his "company". I think we'll see more of Desmond as the show goes on.
But thats just what i think.
ennui108 11-18-2005, 12:25 PM I have a feeling that Desmond is still on the island somehow... maybe he bumped into Danielle and she kept him for his "company".
And the great 'ship Desmond/Danielle has set sail.
And the great 'ship Desmond/Danielle has set sail.
Desielle?
Danmond?
DOMinatrix 11-18-2005, 12:34 PM lol... i like Desielle better
and dont you guys agree with me... that Desmond is still around.
I mean, there's gotta be more to it then that. Otherwise why didnt Desmond leave a long time ago??
And another question... how would he get off the island? does he plan on swimming back to the states? He doesnt have a raft, so whats up with that?
ChristyB 11-18-2005, 12:37 PM Even if they did try to force some answers out of Desmond, (assuming that he does somehow know how to get off the island and just hasn't felt like leaving yet?) what would happen then? I was going to make the same point! My husband asks stuff like that all the time, like why didn't they do this or that (not just for Lost), and my reply is always, because then they show would be over!

Yeah, I would say that we havent seen the last of him. I'm sure he'll turn up just in time to give us a few more answers that result in 10 more questions. Which is fine with me =]
ennui108 11-18-2005, 01:04 PM Desielle?
Danmond?
NO!!! I have said this several times before people! I will never stop fighting against this practice of ship naming by means of name combining. It NEVER sounds good.
If you have a cute name that you came up with on your own, like BP&J (Pregnant Broad and Junkie), then by all means, push on. But there is nothing to be gained by the random shoving together of two names: Skaters, Jate, Shooners, Shyid, Looners, Jawyers... NOOOO!!!!!
Ok, how about "The Scottish and French Revolution"
Or "Lift it up, Frenchie"
Or "OMG IS ANYONE SICK????!?"
elfdream 11-18-2005, 01:57 PM Ok, how about "The Scottish and French Revolution"
Or "Lift it up, Frenchie"
Or "OMG IS ANYONE SICK????!?"
:roflmao:
Thanks for my laugh of the day!
The latest craze is the Kate/Jack one which people are calling Kack. That is a..ahem..questionable word in German. I have asked people to PLEASE not use that one.
lostlurkerbabe 11-18-2005, 02:28 PM Hey, Im new here bbut have been watching from the getgo. I need to askyou guys a question. Who do you think would come &get them? They would have to be connected to dharma.
NugMonkey 11-18-2005, 03:09 PM They should've held Desmond at gunpoint, and asked the following:

If Jack Bauer somehow ends up on the Island, I think you may have your wish.

I'm actually more Ok with all of those than I am with either Desielle or Danmond.
Scottish and French Revolution- run with it.
Now that you mention it, I don't think that Desmond and Danielle would make a good couple. They'd be too worried about the other one being infected. Eventually, Danielle would probably kill him.
rocusman 11-18-2005, 03:36 PM I"m holding out for Kurley. You never know.

theZealot 11-18-2005, 03:43 PM OK... I've been watching this show for a while and I only chimed in here to add a little comedy... So let me say, I love this show because of its unbelievable premise and the improbability of sooooo many coincidences, because the show has more to say than just what is broadcast. But, even I am irritated at the writers for letting stuff hang. So here's my two cents:
Similarities between plots of Gilligan's Island and LOST
And why the Castaways were Smarter than the Lostaways.
Sun = Mrs. Howe (She has money)
Jin = Mr. Howe(Rolex Watch)
Kate = Ginger (firey Red Hair uses sex appeal to get her way)
Claire = Mary Ann (Home town cute girl)
Locke = The skipper.
Hurley, Charlie, R.I.P Boone = Gilligan (Comic Relief Screw-Ups)
Sayid = The Professor (obvious connection)
Why the castaways are smarter:
When gilligan discovers the cable in the lagoon... he shows it to the professor and they decide they'll try to call out on it. They make a phone from coconuts. If they cut it open a ship will come out to fix it and save them so it's a win win situation. Gilligan messes it up.
The Professor in Lost (Sayid) found the wire himself and ignored it. Then Hurley (Gilligan) follows the wire but doesn't do anything else with that information. Not to mention they have tons of spare parts apparently.
There is only one idiot in the Castaways... there are two in the Lostaways.
samdu 11-18-2005, 04:30 PM This assumes that the food drops are done in such a manner that they could be jumped. If they're dropped via plane, it wouldn't be possible to jump the drop. Also, it assumes that whomever is dropping the food and supplies is interested in the least with whether there are other people on the island. They may very well know that the survivors are on the island and have no intention of helping them off.
