So the writers were being a little tricky this time around with the whispers. They start off the same as the Shannon/Sayid whispers from last episode, but then they suddenly change and are totally different! Here's an inital transcript from the stereo files, when we analyse the surround sound files, the transript shound be more definite.

Thanks for posting what the whispers said. But how are they different?

Personally I think that whenever the "whispers" are heard, each individual hearing them hears something different (Sawyer's are related to his killing an innocent man, for example). If the whispers from supposedly the same time and place are different in Abandoned and The Other 48 Days, maybe we are supposed to be "hearing" them as different people, i.e Ana Lucia might hear something different to Libby, who would hear something different to Shannon.

If you play the whispers backward, you can hear what they are saying.

The whispers in this episode were definately saying "lucia" or "ana lucia" . It was quite clear. This was at the same time Shannon & sayid are hearing "dyig sucks" etc.

The first set of whispers, starting with relax dude is the same as the abandoned whispers
The second group of whipsers starting with 'oh I'll tell ya' is different.

On the podcast from Lostcasts.com they played the whispers from last weeks show (2x06) and you can clearly hear them say "dying sucks" and "hey sis".In 2x07 the whispers sounded completely different.:undecide:

It's because the whispers occur at a different time. In abandoned, they start when Sayid and shannon are hugging and stop when she says, 'do you see him'. When Shannon runs towards walt, there are no whispers. In 48 days, there are whipsers when Shannon's running and they stop when AL shoots Shannon.

In the Whispers thread on the Abandoned forum, there was mention of some possible French in the whispers. Are there French whispers in this episode? If so, would that mean that Danielle is nearby and we're hearing her memories? Or Danielle's group is the others?

Did anyone here hear the whispers (Or something) when they came the second time and took the 9 people?

yeah, I'm not sure there is one explantion for all of the whispers, because there seems to be three distinct types of whispers.

The loudest ones are things we have heard people say, like 'it'll come back around', or 'dying sucks'. These seem to the whispers that people have attributed to voices of the dead/echoes of things said on the island/memories of the person hearing the whispers.

The second set of whispers seem to be people who are observing the losties and talking about them. 'she likes the guy', 'she's coming', 'hide the scope'

The last set are buried deep in the audio are things that don't make complete sense right now (but may in future episodes) or are clues like walt saying 'he knows I can't run, but I can yell', desmond saying 'it's the brothers that help us' and 'I'm in someone's dream'.

One of the 3 people taken the first night was German.
They took the blonde guy, the curly haired guy and the German that was helping with the injured.

I think it would make perfect sense for some of the whispers to be French regardless of whether Danielle is around or not. Shannon speaks French, and they could be her memories of the year she spent in France.

yeah, after theZealot pointed out the german in in the abandoned whipsers, I really perked up during 48 days when they said there was a German on the island. Maybe it's coincidence, but just maybe it was planned this way.....

Penyours, rvturnage: Thank you for transcribing these whispers. Don't think I posted in your last thread, but that's gotta be a lot of work. Even if I had the know-how and equipmt. to do this, I'd have to wait till the kids are asleep (and I don't think I could listen to those at night). I got chills reading these... "you're life and time is up" "meet me on the other side" Whew!

Wow....some of these lines gave me chills. Left channel #6 sure sounds like Boone talking to Shannon from the afterlife. Right channel #5 gave me the impression that someone was telling Boone not to tell Shannon something when she "gets to the other side". Very freaky stuff. Fabulous work, as always.

Wow...that's entirely too much work, speeding things up, reversing them...wow. I wonder, if the left channel vocie just before the gunshot IS "Her song" or "Lucia" in reverse, would that mean the "hi sis" from "abandoned is as well?

One reason I ask, is I'm starting to wonder if the "Dying Sucks" from abandoned might actually be "your life and time is up" like from this ep.

Walt is obviously involved with the whsipers (wasn't it his voice that said "I'm in someone's dream"?) but the part that really creeps me out out is that he showed up and lead Shannon to her death. Maybe he was trying to unite the two groups of survivors and the shooting was simply an accident, but the whispers indicate otherwise. The whispers and walt set her up to die. They got Anna Lucia all high strung and then lead Shannon right to her, not to mention drowning out Shannon yelling out Walt's name (or else Michael would have noticed). It's like the whispers wanted her dead. I'm thoroughly spooked.

I don't think that Walt is involved with them. I think he was trying to make sure that Shannon and Sayid would be quiet so they wouldn't get shot.

I'm not sure about the whispers being the others. I have thought that there were at least 2 sets of whisperers. One good/indefferent and one malicious. Possibly a third that was memories from the people that are hearing them. But I'm not sure anymore...anybody speak Farsi or Arabic? penyours and rvturnage, I would also like to give props to you guys for all your hard work. This is one of the coolest things I've seen on the Fuselage in a while. I like what someone said about the whispers kind of being somewhat responsible for Shannons death, as they caused the Tail survivors to freak out and also sorta blotted out Shannon's yelling. Maybe they need more dead people to increase their power? However, the other whispers that have manifested didn't really lead to someone dying, so it's kind of an empty theory... but cool nonetheless.

Wonder if we'll ever hear Ethan in a whisper?
