Sometimes it honestly sucks to read some of the minor nitpicky criticisms about this show, it takes all the fun out of the show itself. So far I have been loving the second season, every bit as much as I enjoyed the first. I think what makes it for me so far is that I enjoy every one of the new characters.
Eko - Top of my list already. Eko is just fricking awesome. He's got a calm demeanor (when he's speaking), he seems very wise and I've already been hearing Locke-comparisons, he's got that priest-like deep religious background thing going on, ...but do NOT piss him off or he will hit you in the face with a big club or a rock.
Libby - Maybe I'm biased because I really liked Cynthia Watros on Titus as Christopher's girlfriend. But so far I'm already liking Libby a lot. She's a clinical psychologist, whose way of keeping the group motivated so far seems to be "If I talk to you really nicely it'll keep your mind off the mind-blowingly intense pain you're going through right now." AND she can set a compound bone fracture.
Bernard - Such a nice man. Really at this point already, I can't envision Bernard being anything else other than the way Sam Anderson plays him. Minor characters or not, everyone wants to see him back with Rose again, ever since they found out that yes, he is still alive just like she said.
Ana-Lucia - The dominant one of the pack, I guess you'd say. As much as people have hated on her in the past few weeks, we know now at least why she acts the way she does. Sawyer and Jin both started off the same way. Some may disagree, but I see a lot of potential in this character.
Cindy - Whether she's a "redshirt" or not, just remember that Cindy was/is a flight attendant for Oceanic. I just think it's a really cool touch that the writers tossed in a living reference to the Pilot episode to add to the cast, just as a reminder that they did indeed come from flight 815. I hope they develop the character more, and that her disappearance won't be the last we see of her. A constant reminder of the plane they crashed on is too good to pass up.
And let's not forget...
Desmond - The International Man of Mystery, I guess. The only new character that isn't one of the 'Tailies'. What happened to his roommate and what were those drugs he was taking? He barely knows anything about what's going on, but he still knows more than he's already told. I'm sure he'll turn up again, but I'm also sure he's just glad he got to give up his old job and get out of the house/hatch for a change.
So, anyone else really liking the new characters so far?
