View Full Version : The Car that hit Mike

I'm new to the boards, but a thought occured to me the other day about the episode where we saw Michael get hit by the car in NYC. Who is willing to bet, knowing the way this show usually works, that the driver of the car is now on the island w/ Mike.

I could easily imagine Kate, running from the law, plowing over a pedestrian.

Or...?

Anyone else?

Welcome to the Fuselage Other Brother!
Theres a thread (or two) around here that you may find interesting.
That car is a gold Pontiac Bonneville. The same kind of car backed into Locke when he was chasing his mother in the parking lot and also the same kind of car that Kate crashed into when she was driving away from the hospital.
Theres definitely (in my mind) something to that car so I wouldn't be surprised if your scenerio is correct :)

I can't tell if the Kate clip is the same car or not. The Locke and Michael one definitely seems like the same car.

I agree it's probably the same make and model car, but I'm not sure it's the exact same car, though it certainly could be. Still, what would be the connection to a more recent model of the same car in the same color? I'm thinking the thing that may tie them together is a rental car agency. I've seen screencaps of Hurley and Claire holding brochures for the same rental car company. They were holding them along with their tickets for Flight 815.

Do you have a link for that shootfire? I'd like to see those caps of the rental car agency. I'm going to do some investigating too. I'd like to see if the front of a Bonneville looks like the one on the Kate cap.

scubagert, I used to have a hi-rez cap for Claire's. It was in RBA the last time she saw Ray Malkin. Unfortunately, all my RBA caps are gone for some reason. Methinks someone has been playing around on my computer...KIDS! I know Claire's is not in the caps at lost-media. I'm not sure about the one with Hurley. It was in Exodus as he was running through the airport. I may have seen that one at lost-media. I don't think I ever had hi-rez caps from Exodus. I think it was when he was trying to get through security.

Do you have the dvds? I could go through mine and tell you when they appear according to the counter. Anyway, the name of the rental agency was Gannon Rentals. I'll try to get the RBA caps back, but you might find it quicker if you get them yourself. Besides, there are a lot of goodies in those caps. (white swans in the painting over Malkin's fireplace, etc) I downloaded them from voodoo_in_tx's livejournal.

I'm sooo mad that I didn't post them a long time ago. I meant to do it. :frown: Sam G has seen them too, and we have discussed them a time or two.

ETA: I also remembered that there was a picture of a large bridge on the brochure, and though I saw no brochure in Christian's room, Jack specifically asked the hotel manager if his father had rented a car.

OK, rather than edit, I thought I should post again to make sure you found this. Here is a a promo pic from Lost-media that shows the brochure in Claire's hands.

That cap is super interesting shootfire.

scubagert, I went a huntin and typed in 'gannon car rental los angelos', and the first site had this little gem. It's probably nothing, but the idea of a car rental agency being a clue excites me.

Sorry about it all being highlighted. I can't figure out how to change it when it doesn't show you the to delete it???

'Ted' Bonda dead at 88
Civic, business leader once owned Indians

Sunday, October 23, 2005

Richard M. Peery
Plain Dealer Reporter

Lyndhurst- Alva "Ted" Bonda, a product of Depression-era poverty who became a leader in business, education and sports, died Saturday at the Arden Courts residence in Bainbridge Township.

Tenacious in business and passionate in civic service, he was a strong champion of Cleveland. He lacked the money to attend college yet served as president of the Cleveland school board and chairman of the Ohio Board of Regents. He used his own money to keep Major League Baseball in Cleveland and brought other pro teams to town.

Bonda, 88, was born in Cleveland and graduated from Glenville High School. He began his career as a clerk in a shoe store and a parking lot attendant.

After serving in the Army during World War II, Bonda formed a partnership with lawyer Howard Metzenbaum, his boyhood friend. They operated an Avis car-rental franchise downtown and found they could make extra money by letting motorists park on their lot. That led to obtaining space at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport to set up the first paid airport lot. Their Airport Parking Co. of America, now known as APCOA Inc., grew into the world's largest parking company, with Bonda serving as president for nine years.

Bonda was chairman of Avis' advertising committee in 1961 when it created a highly successful campaign with the slogan, "Avis is only No. 2. We try harder." He was the chairman of Avis and of its parent, ITT Consumer Services Corp., for five years until 1973. He also owned a chain of hotels and the Washington Yellow Cab Co.
Bonda served on other corporate boards including Steak & Shake; Society National Bank, now KeyBank; Wright Airlines; Penril Corp.; and King Cola. He was an early investor and direc tor of MCI Com munications.

"Despite his great success in business, our dad was most proud of his family and the positive effect he had on people and Greater Cleveland, the community he loved," said his son, Tom of Pepper Pike.

Bonda's best-known civic activity was with the Indians in the 1970s, when community leaders feared that the baseball club would move to another city. Bonda led a group of more than 50 local business owners who bought the team. Despite losing money each year, team president Bonda fended off out-of-town suitors with deep pockets, including developer Donald Trump, because they would not promise to keep the Indians in Cleveland. Along the way he contributed to sports history by hiring Frank Robinson as the major leagues' first black manager.

"It was the right thing to do," Bonda said.

He also designated John Adams as the team drummer with an assigned seat. Although Bonda sold his interest in the team in 1979, he continued to attend games in an Indians jacket and cap and sit next to Adams in the bleachers.

Now, I got my caps back from Voodoo_in_Tx's livejournal.

It turns out that the promo pic is clearer, but it does show in the actual screencaps of the actual epi. It looks to me like it might be attached to the oceanic envelope that holds the actual ticket. I think the bridge in the picture is the Golden Gate . Of interest regarding the Golden Gate Bridge is that it is painted orange vermillion, a color that is also known as "International Orange."

Golden Gate/gold Bonneville-coincidence?

Here's the promo pic of Hurley with his brochure.

Shootfire, thanks for the screencaps. That is very interesting. I'm going to do more research on the "Gannon Car Rentals" myself. That is at the very least a bond between Hurley and Claire now. I wonder how many of the other survivors rented from this place. Is this there link to place them all together?

Walt, the idea excites me too. I love new clues!!!

Ok, I went back and looked at the DVD's on the three car incidents. My conclusion: all 3 incidents (Locke, Kate, and Michael) involve the same car. The Kate one, I was unsure of because you could only see the front of the car in the cap, but on the DVD you can see the side of the car too. It is the same car. And it is a Gold Pontiac Bonneville SE. In Kate's epi, you can see the license plate, and you can get a brief, blurry license plate image in Locke's epi. They do not appear to be the same license plate, but as we saw with Kate, those are easy to change.

One more interesting side note. Rewatching the epis yesterday, I noticed the person driving the car in Michael's and Kate's epi was a white male. As weird as this sounds, in Kate's epi, you can see behind the driver before he hits Kate (or Kate hits him). The silhouette looks exactly like Locke's bald head to me. I know this isn't possible on Locke's epi, because he can't hit himself, but I'm only saying the driver's silhouette looked a lot like Locke in Kate's epi.
