There has been much discussion here about the lyrics of the song Shannon sings, but does anyone have any ideas of how the song could be linked to the mathematical equations? Certainly, Rousseau could simply be nuts, but even her in delusional, hairbrushless state there could be a reason for this strange juxtaposition.

Granted, I haven't been in school for a LONG time, but I remember doodling all sorts of things in my notes.
I took this to mean that Danielle just longed to be home (beyond the sea) and for things to be back to normal for her.
But the lyrics probably do have meaning in this show!

OK, right, so math and music are related; I've seen that a lot before.

But why was Danielle writing song lyrics next to math equations?
Or, better yet, why did she feel a need to keep up her college calculus while stranded on a tropical island? Something to do? Calculating how to get electricity from the ocean? What else??

Anyone have any ideas?

Sayid thought the French message should be something relating to longitude/latitude, maybe it has to do with the beats per line. Like... walk the number of beats for the first line, turn right (like a treasure map).

 I never thought of that. that would be so cool! :lol2: :chris:

I was thinking it was the song that her music box played.

So do you think this was part of Danielle mapping out the island? Or maybe she was just trying to figure out where she is?

Her ship sank in the sea. But, being an enterprising young lady, Danielle swam down to the wreckage and retrieved enough PAPER to draw maps on. Sounds like she did more hand wringing than the viewers.

Or does this island have a Kinkos?

^^^Maybe she learned to make paper, along with sedatives and electricity? She's been very busy!

Did her ship sink or did it just get beached on this island? The ship could have been wrecked, but still made it to the sure. I'm sure the magic of the island could have guided the ship in.

perhaps she took the paper from the "others" - they seem to be well outfitted if Ethan is one of them

I also thought it was the song on her music box, and the box seemed so important to her. She had all kinds of stuff, so I assumed her boat had been beached. I don't remember if she said it had sank at sea. Could be that she's like Bugs Bunny. I love it when he pulls his fur open like a jacket and pulls out what he needs.

Very clever. That's a good guess.

Not to nitpick, but Sayeed seems a bit overly wrapped up in the notes, whether they be musical or numerical. It's a map, not a sonata. Does he think a week's worth of calculus and a chorus of Les Miserables is going to help him define where the "you are here" star appears on the PICTURE OF THE ISLAND?

The map looked fairly abstract in the glimpse we got, but if they climbed a hill and looked around, it seems likely they'd be able to figure it out on their own. Afterall the picture's worth a thousand words.

Is Sayeed merely dragging this out so he can snatch intimate glimpses down Shannon's top? Do typical guy traits like "not asking for directions" really transcend to lostaway life? Is Danielle somewhere on the island frantically moving in circles now that she has no map to guide her?

When I buy a Thomas Guide the last thing I care about is the soundtrack.
