What if the Marshall was the man Kate loved? She would have been the reason he was on the plane, hence the reason she blames herself for his death. What if they were both involved in somthing illegal and the whole prisoner transport was just a cover up?

I know this is a stretch, but I have always thought there was more to their relationship then what we saw. I mean seriously, why would a US Marshall be transporting all those guns? Unless they are evidence in a crime OR they are personal guns, there's no reason one single officer would need all of them. How would she know that he kept the key in his wallet? What reason would he have to open up the case in front of her?

I wondered about a relationship between them, but he is wearing a wedding ring... ???

What was the approximate age difference between Kate and the Marshall. I wondered in the back of my head if he was her father maybe. Maybe not. ::)

It can't be because she didn't kill him it was a joint effort of Sawyer and Jack.

Besides we can't believe whatever comes out of Kate's gob.

Sawyer shot the Marshall and punctured a lung, and Jack did a mercy killing on him. Jack wouldn't have to have killed the Marshall if it wasn't for Sawyer.

Joint effort.

Oh yea. But I don't think she was talking about the Marshall being the man she loved/killed. But who knows...it seems I'm never right! :-\

When was it ever said that Jack did a mercy killing? My memory of that event was that the marshal died before Jack got to him.

When Jack heard the gunshot he asked Sawyer what he did and Sawyer said I did what you couldn't. To that a gurgle comes from the tent and Sawter missed. Sawyer told Jack that he was aiming for his heart, but Jack tells him he missed and it will take HOURS to bleed out and die. Then the shot changes to outside and the Marshall making a muffled sound.

Jack killed the Marshall to put him out of his slow and painful death and also proved Sawyer wrong that Jack would not kill the Marshall. Only when it was impossible to save him did Jack act.

My take on the Marshall-Kate thing is that there was something else going on between them--but I don't think she loved him. There seemed to be a lot of familiarity between them. He might have been chasing her for years, or they may have had an affair, or she had conned him in the past, etc.

I don't think she ever loved him, though--you don't dig up a body of someone you loved in order to get a toy plane. Unless of course you're insane, and...wait...maybe Kate did love him ;)

I think he fell for her Snow White act and learnt the hard way.

Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice shame on me.

I don't think the "Marshal" was the man she loved, and I'm not even convinced he was a real Marshal.

For one thing, there would have been more information about her inside that case. I would expect to see extraidtion papers, for example.

Maybe he was some sort of bounty hunter, maybe he was in on the bank robbery that she conned, maybe....
