I really am not into Charlie and after viewing the Season 1 DVD,.Charlie is arrogant, mean, whiney and totally not funny.

Charlie is a real jerk. He flies off the handle (i.e. when Hurley say he won the lottery) didn't even give the man a chance to explain. Just flew off the handle. Also he was a total jerk in Everyone Hates hurley. He is also now becoming a jerk to Claire and Locke.

he is none of the things that you have said that he is.

I agree with halfrek on this, attack Charlie all you want but you can't judge Dom just from some interview you've seen. Keep in mind, he's registered here as well and might read it.

I don't care much for Charlie either, I used to like him but he's really annoying now.

I totally disagree. I am in the proper location for venting my dislike for the character. If the website didn't want people to express their dislike in a charater they should have never created the "I'm just not into to you" forum to do so.

So if you like Charlie, then you shouldn't even open up a post from this location, because you know it will just make you mad.

I was not referring to your attacks against the character, I agree that is what this board is for. If you'll notice, I did not attempt to defend Charlie in any way, because this is not the place for it. By "personal attacks" I was talking about what you said about Dom. Leave the actor out of it.

I believe the "keep your personal attacks to yourself" was related to you attacking Dom, not Charlie (correct me if I'm wrong pacejunkie).

You are of course in the "attacking Charlie" section so attack the character as much as you like, just not the actor. Like I said, I agree with you on what you said in your first post about charlie! I hope he will be back to his funny old self soon.

What I don't understand is why I got hung on this. I just read some other postings on other characters like the Kate one. And there is a total viscious attack on Evangeline and how she is a poor actor etc and no moderator ever reprimanded that person.

Also I read a mean one about Maggie under the Kate board... and I won't repeat the nasty things they said about Maggie.. not shannon.. but Maggie. No mod got involved in that one either??

I think it's worse to attack someone's character and personality than to attack his acting skills. I haven't read the thread about Evangeline though so I don't know what was said there. I do remember people slating Maggie Grace though and the Mods weren't happy about that either, so it's not just you.

I don't know where you got your information about Dom and fans, but I read an interview with Evangeline in which she said she'd learned a great deal from him about how to respond to fans, that he is always gracious, patient and caring with every fan no matter how much time it takes.

It was a description about the Lost event in Hawaii to raise money for Katrina victims. I guess maybe he was just having a bad day... Like I said, I profusely apologize. Just based on what I read, I thought that it was like a common knowledge thing or something. I was very wrong. I am sorry.

Just wanted to throw this out to you...so you won't get any more replies regarding this...(Cause I bet you are having a 'why did I even type this' moment.) I notice you are a new member and you can close this thread so no one else will reply. What you do is go on your first message. Then on top there is a thread tool (Same place where you can subscribe to a forum), pull that down, and there you can highlight close thread.

We all make mistakes, it is understandable...you apologized and since it is Thankgiving...we should let it be.

if we dont get a reported post about it, none of the MODs may be aware of it to take care of such things.
if you see it, and think that it is rude or otherwise insulting, report it.

that is correct. i do try to be everywhere but i usually end up hurting myself by

You're Welcome! .I at first was a bit angry about the part about Dom and when you apologized I felt better about it. It happens. But in a way I understood cause I've had my run-ins with celebs that were wonderful and ones that were not. And a few (cause I used to go to alot of fan gatherings for soaps and my hubby is into wrestling) I've come across with on more than one occasion. Two different individuals I'm speaking of - once they were mean as can be and the next time they were sweet as pie. Like you said, maybe they were having a bad day. So I learned not to put anything in writing cause it comes back to bite you in the end..

As far a the mods are concerned. They do correct people, but they are also here to help you too. They are just trying to make it a better place around here. I used to go to the ABC forum and let me tell you what I saw there was just pitiful. What got by and didn't get taken away was just horrible. No one is out to get you....

If you still want to close thread, I think I told you how to do it wrong...since you are the creator of the thread, you go to the top. There is a pull-down menu for Thread Tools, you click on that and the drop menu should have where you can subscribe to thread etc...below that is where you can close thread. If you don't want to that is up to you, just thought I'd throw it out to you. I think now that since you apologized you'll be ok. I was just telling you again cause you said you did try to do it.

Now personally, as far as Charlie is concerned, I am neutral. I like the Charlie that was sweet to Claire...was funny with Hurley, thankful to Locke etc. So when he is like that, I like him.

you dont need to be afraid of us. we are here to keep the board running smoothly
and help to make it nice for everyone. those posts that you may have seen that
appeared to have gotten someone banned?
there may be more to it than you may have seen on the board.

also, with the warning system in place, it helps posters to understand what they
have done that is against site rules or such.
dont worry. if your posts were such that required banning you would have been
told awhile ago. most likely alerted first without points.
so dont be paranoid. just use common sense and try to read over
your post a few times before pressing the button.:biggrin:

No, be very paranoid. If you happen to have thick skin, you are more likely to be warned/banned. If someone writes something nasty about you, and you reply rather than report it, that person can report your reply post and get you warning points. The mods won't read, or don't care about, the post to which you replied if you haven't reported it.

Whenever I see interview with Dom, I think... wow he is JUST like his character Charlie. A total Jerk.

Well for the record Dom likes to joke around with his fame. He puts on an act where he 'acting' like a big star when in reality he is doing a bit of a self parody. Bono of U2 does something similar. They don't take the fame and the hoopla all that seriously but they put on an act like they are. The thing is though..you have to have been following the careers of these people for a while to know that.

The only reason I know this is because I was a Lord of the Rings fan and followed the making of the movie for five years. I've read so many fan accounts of people meeing a nice silly joking Dom that I have lost count (and hardly any of them of his being rude..and if he was the fans knew that he was extra tired or something). Someone who walked in on the middle of his 'act' who knew nothing of all of this might well mistake it for being 'arrogant.

And as for Charlie. Yes..he's rude and a jerk but he's also a recovering drug addict. He's 'clean' physically but not mentally and emotionally. He needs couseling and a month in rehab and a sponser to help him out before he can really be considered 'clean' inside and out. He's actually acting pretty typical for someone in his situation and I give the writers kudos for getting that right. There must be some kind of drug couselor on the writing staff!

He's got some cobwebs in his head that needs to be cleaned out and he's just not getting the help he needs. He's going through his recovery completely and totally ALONE. So he is going to be a jerk for a while until he can deal with his 'inner' issues.

They psychic never said she was supposed to raise it 'alone'. He said she had to raise it but not that she couldn't have help. That's impossible for one thing..back in Australia she would have had day care and baby sitters and friends helping. That is all Charlie is doing.

Well, Charlie has been getting more and more jerky ... but I'm thinking it's due to his drug problem. He's had that Madonna statue for quite some time now and it's probably pricking him to give in to temptation and his concience is kicking him to not give in. I think that would make anyone a bit "jerky".

But as for Dom, which I know you've read the posts and apologized (thank you), I just thought I'd share that a friend of mine met him at a con in the south (this was before Lost) and she said he was not only sweet and autographed something for her but had a few pix taken with her and when she saw him later that night, he signed a second item for her! She said he was a doll!

Yep. You canbe pretty sure that that is it. They can't catch every no-no so when we see a violation, we should report it. It helps them and us to have a better board! :biggrin:

Well I don't dislike Dom. Not even sure thats possible seeing as how I dont' know the man. ;)

However, I can not stand the character of Charlie. He is useless. That and I don't think that tptb are using him in the most effective way. Charlie is back when he is in scenes with Hurley. The rest of the time I just wish that they would have made it too that tree a bit too late.

Just to voice an arguement for Domonic and his character Charlie- I think that Domonic is a really good actor. For me he gives us an extremley realistic image of a recovering drug addict/ young rock star has been. I've met Dom twice now and he seems to be a great bloke. He seemed to listen to me, what a lot of these 'celebs' seem to not be able to do, so before judging Dom before meeting him.... bloody meet him! Don't go on someone elses word, thats just pathetic.

I just wanted to say if Charlie dies next episode I wouldn't be at all upset or disappointed. However, if he lives I won't be disappointed either. He is kind of a blah character that has thus far not really contributed to the advancement of the plot.

If that's your criteria then be prepared to kill off half the cast because not many of them contribute that much to the island mystery stories, they're all just along for the ride like we are.

I have to say out in the real world dominic monaghan seems like a nice guy his acting in lord of the rings was superb.
When i first saw the character Charlie in lost i thought he was ok and his first flashback episode was very good but after viewing his second flashback episode, which by the way i thought was the worst flashback of the series, hes become annoying. Like the way he killed Ethan(which by the way made no sense there was 5 guns and Kate Jack Sayid Sawyer and Locke had 1 each so where did Charlie get the gun)and has become obsessed with taking care of Claire.

I haven't seen the second series yet so hopefully the character Charlie will become better and not some annoying character who's obsessed with taking care of Claire.

Just to explain that one, there is a shot of Jack losing his gun when he started fighting with Ethan. They show it on the ground. You are to presume that Charlie picked up that gun and it is the one he used to kill Ethan with.
