I saw them looking at each other in the hatch and all I could think about was Light vs. Dark, Good vs. Evil, Black vs. White

Perhaps that is foreshadowing one of them isn't as good as we think they are?

Locke: What's up dude?

Eko: just chillin'

They appeared so casual in that momentous bizarre moment..but that is very much like them both.

No, all I thought was that they are two peas in a pod, two sides of the same coin. Already, they are in sync with each other and I like that because I adore both of them.

I think that that's already been foreshadowed enough, but this meeting in the hatch was just cool.

I think that they are so cool. Eko is the Locke of the tailies. They have this mysticism about them. I just adore Locke so I am probably biased, but I just think that him & Eko are so much alike.

i just got chills when they were looking at each other...they are like the same person, but for each of their respective groups

I know, don't they just have soothing voices? They have this calming effect, and I know it is faith-based.

I didn't get the feeling Locke and Eko were being shown in contrast. They seemed to both react calmly to the sight of the other. Didn't waste speech, and studied the other before making any snap judgements. They seem very similarly inclined.

I think Locke and Eko were being shown in contrast to Jack/Ana Lucia's typical method of handling emergencies. Jack and AL want to run in with a gun, no planning, or understanding of the situation, and Locke and Eko want to wait, or think things through first.

It was really cool. Jack was all gung-ho to go and get AL, but locke sided w/ Eko... instantly, without too many questions. I don't possess that kind of patience. If someone just killed one of the people from my group and held another at gun point, i'd do what jack was going to do and grab alot o' guns. But i think lock and eko's relationship will be quite interesting once they develop it. Will the island be big enough for the both of them?

I already posted this in another thread, but I'll say it again bc I'm on such a Lost high right now!!!! I got major shivers when their eyes locked! (no pun intended:)) They are both the coolest characters ever! I got a little yelled at last week for saying this, but I still think that Locke is the "dark" and Eko is the "light" in this duo. Eko's faith is much more pure and selfless than Locke's. Although I was a little confused when Eko said he was taking Sawyer back to his camp for himself and not for Sawyer. That seemes a little out of character. Maybe he just didn't want the guilt of another death on his hands. And that crossword clue was pure brilliance! Best. Show. Ever.

I got the feeling later that one of the reasons that he did this was to help AL out of the corner that she had backed herself into. Call him the envoy or ambassador of peace of the tailees. You have to look at someone positively if they have carried back one of your own, in order to save their life. By being able to start on a positive note, he could (and did) act as the voice of reason for restraint against AL.

Yes, Locke and Eko were the same with just slightly different ways to approach the subject.

But what really gets me, was Mr. Eko's seemingly obsession with the gun closet.

Anybody also pick up, with Anna's flashback and the mention of Echo park? Hmmmm....

I had mixed feelings about that meeting...one - these two are gonna get along like brothers!
But there was something ominous about it too...like the writers are trying to say: "Many episodes from now...perhaps a season or two from now...this will be remembered as a
classic pivitol moment in the series!

I found a big similarity between the scene of Locke and Eko staring at each other and Jack and Ana-Lucia doing the same. The shot of Jack and AL on either sides of the screen seemed very forboding and deliberate to me. I, too, loved the moment between Locke and Eko. It seemed like they understood each other with that one look.

When I think of Locke and Eko I think of them as very different characters. I think that Locke is more philosophy based in his ways, as his name applies and I think that Eko seems more driven by religion.

Eko waited those 40 days (a very biblical number in nature) to speak again. While Locke spoke often in the first season about different philisophical concepts.

Thats how I see these 2 pillars. I think that they will end up being friends who agree a lot of the time, but I think that those striking differances will be a major factor as the show moves on.

This kind of brings up the concept of altruism--doing something for nothing, or helping another with no benefit to the self. I don't personally believe there is such a thing, because even in a situation where one receives no money, thanks, or favor in return, there is still the 'reward' of feeling good about oneself, or the feeling of doing the right thing (which allows one to feel good about the self).

So, my thoughts in Eko's case, are that he felt he was doing the right thing, and was following his principles. This happened to benefit Sawyer (as well as the rest because he gave the others the idea to leave without Ana), but the action was in line with his principles, and concepts of right behavior. IMO he was perfectly in character.

When I see Mr. Ecko I see something different.
I see a man who has a violent past and has found faith. When he took Sawyer back to the camp. I think it was to help make amends for killing the 2 Others.
I also think if pushed he can revert back to his old ways in a heart beat. He is going to be tested over and over again. He can be extreamly dangerous if he needs to be.

I think the guns in the bunker bring back alot of memories for him. It may be time to lock them back up.

Locke spent so much time preparing for the Walk about. So I understand why he can track and catch wild game to eat.

Now where did Mr. Ecko get his talents from?
