View Full Version : Ana/Hurley connection?
At the beginning of the episode, I found myself wondering if Ana-Lucia will recognize Hurley when she finally gets there, as a fellow inmate of the Los Angeles Psychiatric Center. Then I wondered if she would be the officer to arrest him in front of the house that he bought for his mother.
They didn't show anything like that, but I kept wondering. I was able to guess that she'd lost a baby.. maybe I'm calling this one ahead of time as well. :)
LockeHurleySawyer 11-23-2005, 11:56 PM I thought she was just seeing a psychiatrist. I didn't think she was committed. She could have been going on work-mandated therapy sessions. And I remember the episode with Hurley getting arrested in front of the house. She wasn't one of the officers.
Guinevere 11-24-2005, 12:26 AM I kept watching for Hurley too. I don't know why but I did. In fact, with her being a cop, I kept looking for several people such as Sawyer and Kate. I might have missed something but I didn't see anything like that.
Aphasia_1 11-24-2005, 12:45 AM I didn't see Hurley, Sawyer or Kate. I think AL was just going to the station's approved therapist.
GettinLost 11-25-2005, 09:46 PM My guess is that she was not a patient in a psychiatric facility. She was probably seeing a therapist appointed by the the corrections department. They usually have officers who have been shot in the line of duty - or who have shot others in the line of duty - see a counselor to determine whether they should return to duty. I don't think Ana was ready. :(

You don't?
margie0123 11-26-2005, 12:38 AM Could it be that Ana, Hurley, Locke, and possibly any of the rest of them went to the same therapist? Maybe he is a common thread to many of them. We all know that the majority of them had reasons to see a therapist!
belshep 11-26-2005, 12:53 AM Hurley sued the LAPD for false arrest (as his accountant mentions), but the cops that arrested him were two men. I was waiting for some connection too, but there wasn't anything (at least not in this episode).
Diva_tay 11-26-2005, 01:00 AM I was waiting for a Kate connection too. There was some speculation about a woman in the bar where AL finally caught up with Jason and whether that woman might have been Kate, but I have watched that bit in slow mo and it seems not.
Are we looking for a connection between AL and Hurley simply because they are both Hispanic? (It is still possible they met at the station when Hurley was brought in.)

No, being Hispanic isn't the issue. It's because Hurley had a specific incident with the LAPD, of which she was a part. And he already has a connection to Locke (the box company and the same boss, Randy), so we are just looking for other connections.
TabbyRasa 11-26-2005, 02:07 AM I just recently wondered about a connection between them for these reasons:
both Hispanic
both live in LA
both possibly raised in Spanish speaking homes (Hurley's mom spoke in Spanish, Ana spoke Spanish to her mother)
I think we just haven't seen it yet.
Diva_tay 11-26-2005, 02:16 AM Absolutely anything is possible on this show - which is why we love it so!
diabolo237 11-26-2005, 02:26 AM They dont commit cops for things like this, she was shot at. and if they found out she killed her attacker, she would be in jail, not a psych ward

I'd have to say that there's probably over a million people that are hispanic, live in LA and speak spanish. Just for fun - the 2000 census for Los Angeles indicates 1,719,073 are Hispanic. That's 46.5% of the population..
Alonia 11-26-2005, 03:34 AM I live in northern California and when you visit Southern California it is like a different world. The fast food places have menus in English and Spanish. I would say that speaking Spanish and being Hispanic are a stretch as being links to each other, especially in LA.
TabbyRasa 11-26-2005, 02:22 PM LostPack and Alonia, I hear what you're saying. But paraphrasing what Diva_tay said, this is LOST!
I guess since we've already been shown connections between some characters, apparently unbeknownst to them, it encourages expectations and speculation that there will be more. We shall see...

I would say that speaking Spanish and being Hispanic are a stretch as being links to each other, especially in LA.That's true, but these two Spanish-speakers from LA ended up surviving a mysterious plane crash on a deserted island together. Knowing that, it doesn't seem unreasonable to want to look for connections between them in the past. Not that I see any... :)
I would like to see them speak to each other in Spanish, though. Just because.
BuffyMars 11-26-2005, 03:32 PM I don't think those are good enough reasons for them to be connected.
