View Full Version : Of course! All the characters are actually dead!
Peach 11-24-2005, 09:45 AM See? They dropped a BIG hint when A-L and Sayid both said that they feel dead inside! It's because they ARE dead, and everyone on the island is trapped in Purgatory!
...JUST kidding! But hey, somebody was bound to bring it up at some point!
name was taken 11-24-2005, 10:09 AM Or it was a poke at the purgatory theorists.
Baileysdad 11-24-2005, 10:20 AM I agree with the poke...the purgatory theory has been blasted so many times by the creators you would think the idea was a bully from their old neighborhood...

Or are they just trying to misdirect us? If I were a purgatory supporter, last night and the comments from Goodwin about taking the good people and the kids being in a better place would really get me going. But, I'm not. Because the creators say that is not it. And they must be telling the truth.
ennui108 11-24-2005, 10:45 AM That was the first thing I though of when I was watching last night. What a great line, though. "I feel DEAD!" I'm not a huge AL fan (though I harbor no hatred for her either), but I loved the way that Michelle R. delivered that line. Best line of the night.
EDIT: how many times can I say the word "line" in this post? I can't think of any synonyms (wow, that's spelled wrong).
BuffyMars 11-24-2005, 11:03 AM I think it was a way of establishing some sort of connection between Ana and Sayid. They both feel dead inside. I also think it showed that Ana has been through a lot, and she's really not what she seems.
MRLeff78 11-24-2005, 11:15 AM Yes, I thought of the purgatory theory when he said they were both dead. I think that has to be an intentional tweak of the nose to the purgatory theorist (can we call them "Purgies"?). A lady I work with who was a big fan last season but hasn't been watching much this year because she read in a tabloid that that they're all on life support somewhere and this is all a coma dream. My biggest fear is that it will all get suddenly wrapped up when the show is cancelled and the remaining producers and writers (because they will most likely end up writing and producing other shows) will just have them get rescued and as they leave the island in the last show Jack will turn to Kate and say "I wonder if we will ever know what happened out here." and roll credits and fade to black.
dormyZzz 11-24-2005, 11:16 AM That's bull. The whole 'everyone's dead' theory. If everyone's dead then what's the point in makig the show, huh? All they did all the physicall and emotional stuff they've been facin would be all for nothing if they were all dead....
But seriously....if at the end I find ouut that they _are_ dead....
I'd be sayin g'bye to LOST right there. XPP
...and I'd burn my Season 1 DVDs....XPP
I'm not bashing anyone in particular, in fact you can go ahead and say crap 'boout me...but i just don't agree with that theory...

I don't believe in the theory at all, but if Goodwin was taking the good people, then the others are...angels? Weird.
BuffyMars 11-24-2005, 01:30 PM Purgies. LOL.
shera11 11-24-2005, 01:34 PM I don't like the purgatory theory, and I know it has been debunked by the writers a billion times, but it makes the most sense.
belshep 11-25-2005, 01:21 PM I think the 'already dead' comments between AL and Sayid were referring to them each feeling emotionally or spiritually dead because of past experiences and it wasn't meant to be literal.
Last week, AL told Eko that Sawyer was 'already dead' and I believe she was talking about his injury being fatal.
Renault 11-25-2005, 01:27 PM I don't like the purgatory theory, and I know it has been debunked by the writers a billion times, but it makes the most sense.
The theory that the survivors are in purgatory makes the MOST sense? WTF? You've been hanging out on these boards too long, your sense of reality has been pulverized.

Geez be nice. You don't have to agree, but you don't have to get rude about it either.
Renault 11-25-2005, 01:32 PM I didn't think I was being that rude. Maybe MY sense of reality has been pulverized by these boards. :)

I'm in my 40s so WTF doesn't come across as to polite to me. I'll have to ask my kids how it comes across to them....could this be...GASP a Generation gap?......lol
BuffyMars 11-25-2005, 01:40 PM I agree with Renault. The purgetory theory is one of the least plausable.

Me too and I've used the term several times on here without even thinking about it, until I saw a post yesterday that used WTH and I decided then and there that that is more message board friendly/appropriate and that I'd use that term when I need to express that feeling from now on. I often forget there is a wide age range that posts on here until I see a post like yours. I'm sure others forget too. To any kids/parents I've offended using that term, I apologize and won't do it again.

Well, I'm 37. Maybe I should have said "What the heck" instead, my apologies. I think you get so used to using these internet acronyms you forget what it would sound like if you were actually talking to someone.
dormyZzz 11-25-2005, 01:50 PM I agree with Renault. The purgetory theory is one of the least plausable.
Heh...no one here can just say it's a loada bull? Is that rude or something?
Well big ups to whoever started the whole theory....your a real genius....
This in't a basher so one be all wussy and take it the wrong way but anyone who believed what Sayid and Ana-Lucia were talkin 'bout bein dead already literally needs to get their head cleaned out.
I'm sure that by now all of ya can pretty assume that LOST is a very deep-in-meaning show and it'd be pretty obvious that _no one_ in the show would just say something as crappy as that....so basically:
LOOK OUTSIDE THE BOX
((no one take that the wrong way either, alright? XPP))

I totally understand. Not like I don't use the term myself. Just it is so easy to miss understand the tone of what someone typed.
Oh yea, I totally do not buy in to the purgatory theory either.
elfdream 11-25-2005, 01:51 PM I thought that 'I'm already dead' line was one of the most angst filled things ever written. Someone should try to work it into either a metal or country western song!!!

lol it's to late to say good bye when you've already seen all episodes :tongue1:
but i agree with you, it would suck if they were dead.. but i doubt it!
AL felt dead before she got to the island, since she felt dead after he baby was killed inside her. I see no line of clues here that they are all in purgatory or the like.
Mr. Find 11-26-2005, 12:31 PM The hoakey "already dead" remark was just staying in line with rest of that scene's hoakiness, so I don't think there was anymore to it than a stupid cliche Sayeed used in an attempt to sound profound.

sure sure sure...Sayid lost his love in a horrific way by the hands of another, Ana lost her child by the hands of another, and they are at the lowest point in their lives. Maybe Libby can help bring them through, because unless the Hatch has a supply of Xanax, Prozac and the likes, they're pretty much going to have to turn to each other eventually.

oh, that would be beyond awful! :(

What does "hoakey" mean?

Jedierica 01-14-2006, 02:45 AM I remember reading someplace that the writers have dismissed the theory that they are in purgetory. I need to find the source since I am up late looking on line for it.
I do not think that the writers would use a simple Jacob's Ladder type cop out to explain the plot of the show.
amida 02-01-2006, 01:29 PM probably not in purgatory but jack and kate also had a talk where he said the died three days ago and were getting a fresh start on the island. they were also flying from the land down under to the city of angels. i think the writers are better than this being purgatory though.
