View Full Version : Eko and Dharma
What is everyone's thoughts on Eko when he was looking at the Dharma swan symbol? Was it more of a recognizing that it's a similar symbol to the arrow hatch and wondering what it all can be? Or was it something else? I'm leaning towards him just recognizing the similarties between the swan and arrow symbol.
nsg2006 11-24-2005, 11:49 AM I think it's just recognition. I don't think he was involved in the Dharma Project, but that would be an interesting twist, eh?
belshep 11-24-2005, 12:22 PM My personal opinion is that Eko recognized the Dharma symbols from somewhere else, maybe from somewhere off the island.
zstrata 11-24-2005, 12:37 PM I think Ecko is piecing things together quickly. He is very quiet but seems to understand much. If all of the speculation about him either being on the island before, or from the island, then he would definitely know something about Dharma.

That was my instinct as well. Or maybe he just thinks they are pretty. I touch things the way he did when I'm drawn to them.
Renault 11-28-2005, 01:37 PM I took it as mere curiosity. Eko was thinking, "This all means something, I'm just not sure what yet. But it's important."
jessieslost 11-28-2005, 01:47 PM I don't think Eko was linked to Dharma before the crash. I just think he's a very observant type of person, and TPTB wanted to point out that someone noticed the logos, so it could come up in a story later on. I think most of the other tailees were to concerned with finding shelter and safety that they might not have noticed a marking on the wall.
kajalie 11-28-2005, 02:09 PM The "bunker" where the tailies were staying in had a dharma logo as well...just not the swan. I am drawing a blank as to what it was exactly, but my take was that Eko saw some sort of connection.

arrow.
darkpiranha 11-28-2005, 03:18 PM I think Eko's seen the logo before, maybe not the Arrow or the Swan, but perhaps one of the others. I don't think he's the Snowman.
sab1ne 11-28-2005, 03:19 PM arrow.
Yep. That was my thought as well - that he recognized the main symbol from the bunker and was interested in the difference in the center symbols (arrow vs. swan).
Has anyone compared the outer lines? Are those identical in the two symbols - and are they from the I Ching?
sledgeweb 11-28-2005, 03:21 PM There is a theory that Eko was on the island before, several years ago, escaped - and has now returned via flight 815. Thus, his name: Eko/Echo: he has bounced back to the island. Thus, he recognizes certain things - like the logo. I don't know if I buy it, just a theory...
penumbra 11-28-2005, 03:41 PM As long as he's not from the Beechcraft: that would be silly! I think he knows a lot more about what's going on then what we know he knows.
Elisangelis 11-28-2005, 04:20 PM his expression when he was looking at the symbol,or just looking around kind of made me feel like all things somehow reminded him something..i mean he looked like he recognised the place or the things inside i don't know..that's the idea i got from the scenes..oh,and somehow something with the way he was watching the Dharma vid made me think he kinda had an idea as to what could be going on..oh no,i'm being way too sceptical here..
