Kate and Jack discuss playing three holes on the beach.

Jack fails to hit it correctly.

Kate is glad that Sawyer is back.

Poor uncomfortable Jack when Kate whispers in Sawyer's ear.

He may not have been that uncomfortable.

Kate is learning medicine from him BUT may have actually cared for a really sick person before.

I acknowledge the special moment between KS, but I'm sure in terms of chosing we won't have clear indication for awhile.. In one scene Kate is concerned for Sawyer, & in another she is flirtatious & seemingly care free playing golf w/Jack. So the writers are definitely having fun playing up all the sides. I imagine that will be the case for some time. And now we have Ana adding another angle as well. Let's hope there aren't any pentagons LOL.

If only it was like that...you guys are really good at playin things out...waitin to see what happpens....but I think Kate did choose Sawyer...at least right then anyways...

She couldn't help it....no one can resist bad boys

Jack's just too I dunno....different...butcha got think that sometimes different is good cus Sawyer and Kate seem like one in the same....they can relate to each other as long as they want, but they can never really _help_ each other....I dunno I got that off of G Gundam if there are any other losers that've seen it XDD

So yeah, same thing for Ana-Lucia and Sawyer.....they couldn't go together, prolly, I dunno. But I think that Kate's gonna be sieriously jealous when Jack and Ana-Lucia start havin some 'moments'....

I can.

Seriously I think it might give Kate a bit of a taste of her own medicine when Ana shows up. She's been sort of going back and forth between the two guys...Jack might well go back and forth between the two women.

to me on the preview it sounded like he was saying some other girl's name.

As for who she picks, that is still to be seen. Kate relates to the criminal "i am a tough guy" in Sawyer. She knows that just like her he could call this island "home" for they are safe from the law there. but i think she is definitely attracted to Jack. Jack just still has issues about his marriage which i think we will see why soon.

Oh and if neither of the guys want her, i will be happy to join the island. :)

Kate and Sawyer have a history. In an episode from season one (sorry, not photographic on which), Sawyer was kind of jumped on by Kate, and he quickly says, "Where was that four years ago?" It was said quickly and in passing, but I believe it intimated a previous relationship.

She was helping Jack help Sawyer because he was hurt so it wasn't really a choice per se. She had a care taking instinct toward "dead Charlie", dying Boone, passed out Claire etc. It's not to say she doesn't genuinely have feelings for Sawyer, but there's room for interpretation as to what kind, as some feel is the case w/Jack..

i don't remember anything like that. i am currently rewatching season one and there is a scene where kate jumps on sawyer and sawyer says something about birthday wishes coming true. if you can, can you find this episode?

 Kate did not 'choose' Sawyer. She's just a bit of a hussy so she likes attention from both guys and can't decide who she wants. She's playing the whole 'I'm confused' thing and its getting a bit ZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzz...........

But mark my words: When the last episode of Lost is shot..it'll be Jack

Jack and Sawyer mirror Kate's relationships in her backstories - she was in love with Tom, the Doctor, but also had a thing with her bank robber boyfriend who she kissed in the vault.
Whether she's doing this consciously or not we don't know yet, but the history is there for her being attracted to both good boys and bad boys...it's part of what makes her so interesting.

peepstone - Sawyer says something like "I've been waiting for this for four years" after Kate falls on him. I don't remember the exact epi, but it was early on in Season 1.

Jack's chance with Kate has passed. It's sawyers time. BTW what was that whole ackward moment with Jack saying "Ana Lucia" and looking all weird in the hatch after Eko brought her up? Maybe they did hit the Mile High Club, maybe why Jack was so jovial with the stewardess.

Ok, let's look at these people:
Kate - possible sociopath
Sawyer - possible sociopath
Jack - damaged guilt ridden doctor.
Ana Lucia - damaged trigger happy cop.
We have 4 damaged people. How ANY of these people could have a healthy relationship with any combination is beyond me.

Someone on another board posted the exact quote. It was "I made this birthday wish four years ago." He says it after Kate jumps on him. Still don't know the ep, though. I just found that statement to be strange at best. Sure seems difficult to wish for something (or someone) of which one is unaware.

Could be something as simple as "I wish to hook up for a former spokesperson for a 1-800 Chat Line"

We discussed this after that eppy aired, and came up with all kinds of wild theories. The one that sticks in my head, is that Tom flew to visit his cousin Sawyer's (remember he mentioned flying to texas by himself) and Tom had a pik of Kate on him that Sawyer saw. At that time Sawyer made this birthday wish. Stay with me here.

This would make Tom's dad the uncle of Sawyers that died from the brain tumor.

There was a lot more thought put into this theory than this, but this is what I recall off the top of my head.

Believe it or not.

I think it was in White Rabbit when Jack took off into the woods and Boone stole the water they needed for Claire. Everyone accused Sawyer cause he traded his water with Jin for fish and Kate jumped him. Then he exclaimed "I made this Birthday wish 4 years ago."

I read a spoiler from Damon Lindelof that said we would find out what that Birthday wish was. :D

I think Kate should chose Sawyer to. ;)

That is so funny and so true!

Lexxxxx - thanks, that is the right quote. Another possibility is that Sawyer's wish was to be stranded on an island with a beautiful woman, but that's probably too simple an explanation for Lost.

Thanks, everyone. I never saw a thread devoted to that topic. Hopefully we'll learn more about that particular reference in future episodes. Waltisfuture, I like that theory.

It's not like she's at a bar trying to decide which guy to go home with. Kate's first thoughts are on survival, and I'm sure she thinks that if they get off the island, she'll have to go back on the run and thus leave behind both guys. So not only is there no need for her to make a choice now, it's kind of pointless. She might as well indulge whatever impulse she has at a given moment, which would explain why she bounces back and forth between the two men.

She has, I'll admit, shown a much closer connection with Sawyer. But that I believe stems from the fact that she knows she's the only one who can understand him and help him, while Jack has plenty of others who've got his back.

I'm just hoping that this show doesn't turn into a soap opera. That killed Alias, to my mind. Not that I don't want the relationships. They're great, and fun to watch. But this show is about more than who's flirting with whom. If that becomes the central focus of the storyline for any length of time, and consumes the discussion, it'll be a soaper, and we're going to have the whole Alias/Vaughn storyline overwhelming the basic premis of this show.

I'm not sure you can say she chose Sawyer definitively. My take is that Sawyer was rejecting the medicine because he didn't care to live anymore. Kate knew that if she showed interest he'd take the medicine thus saving his life. She has bad karma in her past and this is her way for making up for it. I think it's still cloudy who she ends up with.

I agree totally. I also think that Kate considers the fact that if they are rescued, Sawyer could be helpful in terms of getting her back 'under the radar' so that she can remain a fugitive. Sawyer knows the world that Kate lived in while she was on the run.

Maybe some of them can help heal each other? I don't know which ones/which combinations, but Locke helped Boone get over Shannon and Charlie get over (at least for awhile) his drug use - and Locke certainly has some emotional baggage.

I think Kate and Sawyer are drawn together because they've both been con artists. I think Jack is a challenge to her. I like both Kate/Sawyer and Kate/Jack, and I don't want her to decide just yet!!

Anyone who thinks Kate and Sawyer will connect hasn't seen the Canadian preview. The ABC version might hint that way, but their (ABC's) relentless bait-and-switch tactics on the next-episode previews indicates you can almost be assured that they've taken scenes out of context to misdirect us. OTOH, the Canadian preview is harder to misinterpret.

For the sake of previews-as-spoilers, I will refrain from further elaboration here.

I don't think it was an issue of choosing, I think she did what she had to do. Would you have not helped sawyer just because you "liked" Jack more? No you would still help a person that seemed to be dying and she though she could get him to swallow the pill which is what needed to be done. She apparently cares for him and doesn't want him to die, but I don't think this signifies her choosing Sawyer over Jack by any means.

I don't think she's chosen. I think she used her relationship with Sawyer to get him to swallow medicine - plain and simple.

The writers have tons of time to force her to decide. :) It's still interesting.

Well I had originally thought his remark was sex related, but it could be something else, like a figure of speech. We dont know what that wish was, but judging from the context of the scene. Him being falsely accused and Kate wrestling him down, I think it was more about her being in an authoritative position and taking the initiative. That's JMO though. :)

I dont think that she was choosing sawyer over jack...but I think it was clear...esp to jack...that she has some real, intense feelings for sawyer. It was hard for me to watch jacks reaction to it. I thought he going to puke. I cant wait to see if it changes how he feels about kate...esp w/ ana lucia now in the picture.
