Richee 11-24-2005, 01:03 PM *Shrugs* No clue exactly, but I loved it when she asked him what made him think he was better at golf then she and he responded with: "I'm a doctor!" Because really, what else is the official sport of doctors other than golf? metallidevils 11-24-2005, 01:18 PM i actually saw that coming during the show, but it was still funny I like twinkies 2 11-25-2005, 07:04 PM Not that this matters, but Kate did not hook the ball as we can plainly see. What is Jack thinkin with that and the keep your left arm straight?Actually, it was a slice. Keeping the left arm straight is fundamental for right handed players (or in this case someone who is left handed but playing with a right handed club). So that was sound advice. Now if she was playing left handed with a proper club and hit the same shot it would have been a hook since a slice goes to the direction of the player's dominant hand. Island_Girl 11-25-2005, 07:13 PM Not that this matters, but Kate did not hook the ball as we can plainly see. What is Jack thinkin with that and the keep your left arm straight? Nope, she sliced it. Keeping the left arm straight is a problem for many golfers. They bend it too soon. I would say that's what Jack meant. mj 11-25-2005, 07:59 PM The golf playing on the island is a great thing. I am glad that they play some sort of game and it is funny. MaggieRyanJr 11-25-2005, 08:26 PM I don't think we saw the shot Jack was referring to. I'm guessing he was talking about the ball that ended up almost hitting him... I like twinkies 2 11-25-2005, 08:51 PM When we see Kate hit the ball, the shot fades to the right. I'm fairly certain that's the shot Jack was refering to. It's definitely the one I'm refering to. But please, let's not argue a trivial point. Kate looks like a natural. With a little practice she could probably beat the pants off Jack. And let's not read too much into my phraseology either. fancyface 11-25-2005, 09:32 PM I don't think we saw the shot Jack was referring to. I'm guessing he was talking about the ball that ended up almost hitting him... that was the one. I love it, and with only three holes.....they can hooks and slices. It was an Eagle that landed in the drinking water...teehee hatchgirl 11-25-2005, 09:34 PM *Shrugs* No clue exactly, but I loved it when she asked him what made him think he was better at golf then she and he responded with: "I'm a doctor!" Because really, what else is the official sport of doctors other than golf? My boyfriend said it a few seconds before Jack. We both cracked up. joepace 11-25-2005, 10:08 PM Hang on, they only had rocks in the first season! Where did these new golf balls come from? fancyface 11-25-2005, 10:24 PM Hang on, they only had rocks in the first season! Where did these new golf balls come from? who knows, maybe the hatch. But then again, what would Desmond do with golf balls? Bounce them off the walls, maybe? LOL thelizinator297 11-27-2005, 03:00 AM *Shrugs* No clue exactly, but I loved it when she asked him what made him think he was better at golf then she and he responded with: "I'm a doctor!" Because really, what else is the official sport of doctors other than golf? I liked that because it reminded me of a point in season one where Sawyer said, "A doctor playing golf? What's next, a cop eating a doughnut?" Bond_81 11-27-2005, 03:13 AM They actually did have golf balls in season 1 (Solitary). Must have been in the golf bag that gave Hurley the idea in the first place. zstrata 11-27-2005, 04:02 AM yeah very unlikely that someone would travel with their golf clubs and no golf balls. Also, on first post i was just saying that i thought it was funny that Jack was saying "keep your left arm straight" when you watch his far from perfect swing. Kate's looks pretty good. ekdikeo 11-27-2005, 10:03 AM i actually saw that coming during the show, but it was still funny As Jack started to give Kate the golf tips, my gf blurted out "He's a DOCTOR! HE KNOWS HOW TO GOLF!" then he said that. was really funny. :D x_exist_x 11-27-2005, 02:49 PM With a little practice she could probably beat the pants off Jack. And let's not read too much into my phraseology either. LOL  love it! Anyway, i am glad to see the return of the golf, it has been troubling me for some time as to where those golf clubs had disappeared to :) sier 11-27-2005, 03:57 PM I am really glad I didnt see one person bashing golf in this thread..haha. It sounds silly, but its a pretty common practice because it's considered an "upper crust" sport. Dinonut 11-29-2005, 03:03 PM The only time we saw rocks being hit were by Jin, during his flashback episode. Obviously you want to hold onto what golf balls you, so if you want to do the "driving range" thing, you gotta use rocks. And I don't think Kate's slice is a left arm issue... slicing can be attributed to breaking your wrists too late. Jeez, JACK! a hook? keep left arm straight? Docs play golf, but they're OBVIOUSLY not good golf linguists/teachers. LOL! (just kidding, obviously the whole thing was just one of the writers pretending like they know what they're talking about within the golfing realm) sier 11-29-2005, 03:22 PM LOL! (just kidding, obviously the whole thing was just one of the writers pretending like they know what they're talking about within the golfing realm) Exactly. Either that or the director saw "Kate hooks the ball" and shot that scene, not really aware of what the difference between a slice and a hook are. Dinonut 11-29-2005, 03:58 PM Exactly. Either that or the director saw "Kate hooks the ball" and shot that scene, not really aware of what the difference between a slice and a hook are. LOL, yeah totally! thelizinator297 12-03-2005, 07:06 PM Apparently we have golf gurus on this thread! I hope to see more of Charlie and Hurley golfing. Bond_81 12-10-2005, 03:27 PM While I can understand using rocks instead of balls to preserve the balls they have, wouldnt bashing rocks around with the clubs do quite a lot of damage to them? I mean, its great to save the balls but once the clubs are dented and bent from hitting rocks, what are you gunna do with them? Baileysdad 12-11-2005, 07:42 PM If you are right handed and hit a hook..it is like pulling a baseball..the ball veers hard to the left. A slice is when it veers hard to the right...going further sideways than forward. Not fun. OfAllTheThingsIveLost 12-18-2005, 03:07 PM Maybe the writers messed up the terminology on purpose to show that Jack isn't a great golfer. Kate's shot at the first hole was certainly more accurate than Jack's. Speaking of, when he hit it into the trees, would that have been a hook? Did HE need to keep his arm straight? |
