View Full Version : Where's the hatch surprise moment?
pacejunkie 11-24-2005, 01:16 PM Was anybody else wondering why Eko, Michael and Sun just strolled into the hatch without going, "What the F is this?????". After wandering in dangerous jungle with nary a change of underwear for 48 days, Eko finds himself in a comfy living room with a shower, sofa, electricity, computer, etc. He doesn't seem the least bit surprised. Then, Sun leads Michael down there. I didn't know Sun even knew about the place, yet she does. Wasn't Charlie recently complaining about not knowing what's in the hatch? He couldn't even find the place and only found out after he confronted Locke about it. Sun can lead Michael there no problem. Michael certainly has never seen the place, and he also doesn't seem fazed. Isn't this a surprising thing to find on this "deserted" island? Why isn't anyone surprised?

I don't think there is a single scenario where Ecko would show any emotion of his face what soever. That man is stoic to the last degree. As for Sun, I was under the assumption that for now everyone from the Fusies would know about the hatch. The only question remains is why was Michael not surprised. And the only answer I can think of is that he has been through so much that nothing can surprise him anymore. He knew of course that when he left on the raft that they were trying to blow open the hatch. Remember the crazy theories on these boards about what is in the hatch?? I'm sure he had all those in his mind and then more. It is somewhat logical actually to assume that there is a living structure down there. Plus, he had seen the tailies Dharma base, so he knew there were structures on the island, and he connceted the dots........ OR....
it just didn't fit into this episode, i bet next week he will do the obvious(which never happens on this show) and ask Jack exactly what that place is.
Noeland 11-24-2005, 01:30 PM Michael knew about the hatch before they left. He knew they were going to open it, and he knew they were hoping to find shelter down there. Granted he has never seen it, but he was very worried about Sayid and more than likely Sun explained to him what the bunker is before they got there. He also saw the arrow station, and that they had electricity there. My feeling is, he is going to view these things as negative and part of the reasons Walt was taken, and I would not expect him to be impressed or interested in too much that happens on the island now beyond getting his son back.
mr.booboo 11-24-2005, 02:24 PM Eko did show a slight "WTF face" when he was looking around the hatch, it was very slight though.
lost-grif-fan 11-24-2005, 04:02 PM I believe that everyone found about the hatch and what was in it when Hurley handed out all te food. I am sure they had to wonder where it came from and Hurley cannot keep a secret anyway!
I also agree that Ecko does not show emotions...although I think there was a look of "knowing" between him and Locke.
nonyabizwaz 11-24-2005, 04:10 PM I want to know why everyone is still basically living outside on the beach. I mean...there is a real, live living room in that hatch. With a soft, plushy couch. Got to be better than sitting on the beach all the time. And do I even need to mention the shower?!

Well there isn't enough room for 40 people down there at once. I know the hatch creeps Rose out. It may creep out some others too. What they haven't had time to show us is. How often people wander down there, use the shower, hang out on the couch for a while.
What I wonder is how many of them know about the button?
the-islander 11-24-2005, 04:50 PM eko and michael have seen the other hatch!
so they would be less suprised
and .. did sun partake in the great feast? i'm sure they all knew what was down there cos of that at least!
BuffyMars 11-24-2005, 04:52 PM Yeah. And maybe since they're both so tired, they were like "Oh...you have one to, huh" lol
the-islander 11-24-2005, 04:55 PM nothing would suprise me lol!!

I noticed that too...and loved it. It was like "Hmmm...this is slightly more interesting than the one we found." And I got this feeling that he sensed something, sort of like how Locke sensed it, and Rose seems to sense it.
kachopra 11-25-2005, 08:13 AM It confused me too, also it confused me why Locke didnt ask where Walt was??
Oggie 11-25-2005, 08:22 AM Couldnt have anything to do that he just left a situation where someone who's been rather bossy and gunhappy had a gun to someone he knows in the jungle not too far from where he is. His first priority would prolly be to get help for Sayid. After that it's WTHBBQ time.
Monsoon_Season 11-25-2005, 08:32 AM We never actually saw the moment when they entered the swan hatch. By the time they got down to the living room, the intial shock would have worn off given the life and death matters at hand.

Eko has three looks.
Normal.
Pissed.
WTF?
JUSTCHRIS 11-25-2005, 09:49 AM and what was sayids response about when he heard about walt?? why didnt he tell michael that he and shannon saw walt moments before?
edeewildwild 11-25-2005, 11:05 AM hmmmmm.
The Hatch is not really all that small and we've only seen a few bits of it.....
Shepherd 11-25-2005, 04:15 PM If you want to keep something a secret don't tell the fat guy.
My question is why don't they lock the damn door? Everybody just strolls on in like an episode of Three's Company.
Automission 11-25-2005, 05:55 PM Well, i doubt they would lock the door due to the trouble they had opening it. Or its just a mistake made. There is alot of things they could be doing, thats just not filmed/shown to us. In response to why alot of the survivors are still on the beach could just be, they never went to the caves and never heard of the hatch. They also could be scared to go inside like someone said, or jack/locke/kate etc wont let anyone inside who doesn't know what to do with the computer. Would be dangerous as most would ignore it, while others would wait for someone to return before saying. My final point to why none of the others go inside is just that they are not main plot line characters. Theres no need to film 5+ unknown people inside the hatch listening to locke/etc talking about what to do, while they sit there not saying anything. Would just make it look akward and tacked on in a vein attempt to make it look used by all the survivors.
