There has been a lot of rumor mill stuff going around that there is going to be a homosexual character on the show, and most of it is "Jack is gay!!", but some of it isn't.

Set my mind at rest, please. Is there going to be a character that's really homosexual, bisexual, or bi-curious in the show? I don't want to know who it is, if there is. I'd just like to know if I should look foward to the possiblity, or if I should resign myself with the same contentment to know that the only same-gender scenerios going on in Lost will be in the fanfiction.

This is one of the few shows I'd trust to deal with a homosexual character. Believe me, as a lesbian, I am sick of the "token" homosexuals. I think a lot of us of the alternative lifestyles are ready for more characters whose homosexuality or bisexuality is just part of who they are instead of making for "a very special episode of ____."

P.S. I know Fury said Jack was bi-curious, but in context it was very hard to tell if he was a) joking or b) serious in his heart, but it won't show up in the show. (Then again... that could make for a whole deeper Kate/Sayid/Jack triangle. I am always up for three healthy, consenting adults bein' all French about their love.* :P)

I don't wanna seem brash bumping this up to the top, but I think a lot of questions got lost behind the smattering of posts that weren't asking questions at all.

I shortened this post up, at the same time, so it's not as unweildy to look at. ;D

calico -

as an hispanic sci fi geek - and by that i mean a sci fi geek born in puerto rico, not a fan of science fiction written solely by hispanic people - i know some of your pain regarding representation in the media (and i might add i always felt like shows like "voyager" only added insult to injury by having the only latino character in the series also be half klingon - i mean, they couldn't just leave well enough alone, could they? like they were going down a checklist?).*

that much said - we aren't there yet - that doesn't mean there aren't any gay characters on the island or that it won't happen in the future - but it's not in the cards right now.* if and when it gets dealt in our hand, i assure you it won't be dealt with in that "very special episode" manner - we like to think we have a little more finesse than that, and truly appreciate your trust.

thanks for the question!

I appreciate your answer right back at'cha.* You guys are really setting an example in the way you relate to your fans. I'd be lying if I said I didn't have plans to be where you guys are today however many years down the line, whatever creative writing career-path I persue. But, you're the kind of people I hope to meet in the business when I get there; I can only hope to be as gracious.* *:)

I don't think I can say I'd enjoy the series more if you explore that "maybe" someday, because I'm rarely entertained more than I have been these recent Wednesdays -- but I'll still look forward to the possibility. ( You definitely don't have a problem drawing in a gay and lesbian audience without bringing the gay, from the look of my gang.* ;) My friend Andy fell into your insidious snares just this morning... Some of these people don't even watch television.)

I'll tell you what, though, you oughta get all Japanese with this and merchandise. I want my Lost t-shirts, Lost phone chains, Lost lunch boxes, completely useless Lost gashapon (http://www.toysnjoys.com/gashapon.html) figures, and Lost Flavored Snack Cookies. What can I say? My 90's anime kick spoiled me.
