Why does Eko introduce himself as Mister Eko? Wouldn't most people say "hi I'm John Eko"? (i don't know his real first name) Is this a hint to what he does in the real world? Is he a teacher? He's obviously religious. What other types of people commonly use "Mister"?

You know, I believe British surgeons use "Mr." instead of "Dr." as a title - though I doubt that has anything to do with Eko's profession.

It's specific to medical consultants. Once doctors become consultants it is a sign of respect that they are called Mr instead of Dr. Apparently it all goes back to the days of barber shops.
