After watching tonight my husband pointed out that sound doesn't come from the actual film on a reel-to-reel. So splicing and taping the missing scenes back together would not produce the missing audio.
I hope he's wrong. This is really bothering me now.
Any thoughts?

I'll assume he is correct. You have to understand that this is television and things like that do occur. To the average person that wouldn't really matter. But yeah I guess it is an inconsistency.

Nope, there's an audio track embedded on the righthand side of the film. This is how it works in movie theatres too. Take a look: http://timdorr.com/images/Lost/thefilm.jpg

That is correct, most 8mm film has a separate sound track, not associated to the film (or at least incorporated into it) But this is just a show and I guess they dont anticipate anyone questioning it.

It can be magnetic or optical sound. But it is on the film.

Thanks Timdorr,
I set my husband straight.
I will sleep better now.

I used to be in the AV club in junior high. There were audio tracks on the films we showed in class. No problems here.
