I know this sort of thing is discussed ad nauseum but what else do we have to do?
What happened the other jump suits? There were at least four in the hatch. Desmond left wearing one of them. Tonight there was only one one the rack. I don't see any of the extras running around in the latest Dharma wear.
Another continuity error? Or is this, once again, the writers/producers/whoevers version of 'What's wrong with this picture?'
I wonder sometimes if the characters are not the subjects of a psychological experiment but the viewers are.

Why does this seem important? They fell off the rack, they are being used as tarps, they wrapped Shannon in one- does it make a difference?

With this show, you never know. Generally, nothing is to small to notice. You may think it's stupid and unimportant, but it could come back at some future point.

I don't know what could have happened to them. Maybe they were used for some other purpose or maybe it was just a continuity error. I don't think the Others came in and got them though. Someone has been in the hatch since Desmond left.

Personally, my vote here is for "Stupid and unimportant". If I'm supposed to notice the number of jumpsuits and remember it because it's going to be significant at a future point, please writers, tell me now because I would quit watching.

I agree, there's nothing to this. And so what if there is? Sometimes I think that the fans on this board can't see the forest through the trees. This is an awsome show. Just watch it! Why does everything have to be a clue, or a mystery, or something important? For me, the real important things in this episode:

Kate killed her father
Sawyer is in love with her
Sawyer got better
Eko and Locke are becoming an aliance
Kate and Jack kissed
Sayid is devistated
Ana Lucia is depressed and seperated from the others
Jack is all too eager to cheer her up

These are the important things; you know, the things that partain to the episode and the plot and the characters. I think that you also forget that TPTB have not created this show just for us, the superwatchers. Most people, like my Mom, are casual viewers, who are not looking for tiny clues. If something is truly important to the mystery, the creaters are going to make it a little more obvious than missing jumpsuits, for the casual viewers sake. This is a TV show attempting to keep an audience- it is not Eraserhead.

This couldn't be more true. As much as I love looking for clues and tend to get excited about things like the number of jumpsuits in a hatch, what makes the show great is the characters!

As I said in my post, I don't think it's important either. They were probably used for some unimportant reason or it's just a mistake.

I personally will just keep it in the back of my mind with all the other useless trivia that this show has generated.

I don't think TPTB created this show for the superwatchers either, but almost every single week there is some easter egg that the casual viewer doesn't pick up. This week, there was Sayid on the TV in the recruiting office. Almost everyone missed that. And there have been alot of others also. Was Sayid on the TV important or just a fun thing to throw in? Kinda like Hurley on the TV in Korea???

If it's an important clue, they will bring it up at some point in the future and point it out more clearly. It it means nothing it will just get left by the wayside.

I don't see this as anything the least bit significant. The whereabouts of the jumpsuits have absolutely no bearing on any part of the storyline or with the show or with any character. I just don't see how it would be important to track them - there's lots of walk through traffic in the hatch now with people taking shifts to push the button - so it's possible that someone took a jumpsuit as pajamas or as a blanket or rolled it up as a pillow or used it as a bathrobe while their clothes were drying. The continuity of an article of clothing doesn't seem to be something of concern within the mysteries of the island. I would hate to have time wasted during an episode to see who's moving things around in the hatch or on the island - its just insignificant.

Why can't they be in the wash? We saw the washing machine and dryer had recently been used, so why can't they be there?

That said, I agree with others. This 'detail' is insignificant.

I'm not saying it's significant. I'm saying it's sloppy. If it is not significant why even have it in the shot? If it's in the shot, why not get it right? How hard is that? Not very.
It's the kind of carelessness that leads to idle speculation, of which there is already too much. If the people responsible for the production of this show are so brilliant why don't they pay more attention to detail?
If it's not a hapless mistake then maybe it is significant. Either that or TPTB are screwing around, with an attitude that indicates they just want to see if they can generate some buzz over something that's meaningless. Like, "Aren't we cool? We got someone to overanalyze another unimportant point."
