Most posters on usenet (alt.tv.lost) where I first head to get Lost discussion are disappointed or angry over this episode. So I had to make my first post on the Fuselage a counter to that because I thought this was hands down the best episode of Lost so far. It was absolutely phenomenal. Lots of action. Many little things were resolved that seemed like a nod to the fans (Jin's handcuff finally coming off, Sayid acknowledging seeing Walt, etc) and many little questions were raised. Like who cut out the piece of the Dharma Initiative film, and why? And why did they hide it? Are the blast doors merely decoration to aid in button-pushing compliance or is there some truth to Marvin Candle's dire tone?
Also, I find Kate's flashbacks and behavior this episode completely believable, and the subtleties of the brilliant writing seem to be lost on the majority of those in alt.tv.lost (don't know about this forum yet). Kate was shocked to discover from the photographs that her dad wasn't really her dad. It probably felt like a betrayal from all three of the adults that were supposed to take care of her: her mom, her "dad", and Wayne. They all lied to her and kept this secret for years. She snapped. She did it for revenge, out of resentment, and to help her mom; also while experiencing a breakdown both mentally and of what she had believed to be true about her family for forever; all these things mixed together. When she tells the hallucination/ghost of Wayne that she killed him because she hated that his DNA in her meant that she would never be a good person, that was the truth along with these other reasons. She doesn't like herself. Remember that this DNA reason is something that she has come up with after years of living with the crime and many quiet opportunities for inner reflection on Craphole Island. She went over the edge mentally after finding out about the lie and spends lots of energy trying to appear to be just a fun-loving normal girl but it's too heavy a burden sometimes and she cracks up every now and then (like in her island scenes tonight).
I'm just getting started. So I'll stop there before I write a book.
So who's gonna bone Kate first, Jack or Sawyer? :)
