My questions:

1) Why did "Walt" (if it was Walt) decide at that point in time to write "Hello?" Was it because they put a missing part of the film back in and watched it, and that allowed it to be used for exactly what it wasn't supposed to be used for? Weird coincidence if you ask me. Or was it because Michael was there?

2) Michael could clearly hear the film being played, but it doesn't seem that he heard the new footage, did he? If so he chose to completely ignore what it said.

3) Didn't Locke and Eko hear the beeping?

4) Why did the counter stop at 51:00? Was it because Michael was fiddling with the computers? It looked to me as though he were merely checking stuff out, not really touching anything.

Great episode! I hope there's a repeat of the incident, so we know what it was

I don't think the counter stopped. It seems to only count down the seconds during the 4 minute window. Otherwise it only shows the minutes until it changes.

It seemed a weird coincidence that someone tried to contact them whilst they were just discovering that the computer could be used for contact.

We don't see Michael actually do anything to the computer, but it doesn't mean he didn't. Either way, it seems a weird coincidence that they discover the computer can communicate at the same time they're warned not to use it.

Yeah, but didn't he already know not to use it for anything? That was pretty much the original message. 'don't use the computer (blip blip) for anything'. We only just found out that he could cause another 'incident'. Michael saw the film, I guess he just didn't pay that much attention to it.

I think it would be really hard to resist the urge to respond to the communication attempt on the computer. Especially since they have been isolated on the island and this may have been an opportunity to be rescued.

Yeah, that darn human nature. But if they're worried about a big boom of some sort he shouldn't have used it.

I think Michael was not paing any attention to Ecko and Locke were doing and they did not tell him that they had new footage. I think he was just doing whatever he could to communicate with anyone who could rescue them. That "Dad" on the screen is probably more of the mind games that are playing with the castaways.

Hard to tell sometimes what is "real" and what is "halucination". Seems they want us to question whether vision are real until they are validated by another (Shannon seeing Walt- finally Sayid sees him, Kate seeing the horse- finally Sawyer sees it). So whose to say Michael isn't just sort of wishing all of a sudden he got some communication from Walt? Either way I was just jumping off the couch when it ended! My biggest question - Why the US Marshalls after Kate. But I know there are other threads on this already.

How was he able to type in anything before the 4 minutes? Locke showed earlier in the epi by banging away at the keys that nothing happens.

It didn't seem that Michael put much stock into the Orientation film or the importance of the code-entry. He reminded me of Jack, when Jack first learned about the code...although in a more subdued fashion.

I get the feeling that Michael does things without first considering the potential consequences of his actions. Whether it's stepping into the street without first looking both ways, or leaving the Tailies group to go after Walt on his own...

Not sure if this is a character issue...I'm probably just reading too much into the Michael character.

1) The timeing was probably just done to create an "Oh My God!" moment. But it could have just been a coincidence. Lots of coincidences on this show.

2) I think Michael was concentrating so hard on examining the computers he wasn't actually listening to the words on the film.

3) Likewise, I think Locke and Eko were concentrating so hard on the new footage that they failed to hear the beeps or just assumed it was the beeps for the 4 minute mark and they figured Michael would enter the numbers.

4) The counter didn't stop at 051:00. It just counts down 1 minute at a time until it gets to 004:00 then it starts counting down seconds also.

Right...I'd kind of spaced that off. Looks like it was shown at 51:00 so we'd go "Wait a minute, you can't use it til 4 minute countdown!" And you are probably right, Roland, about Mike just not paying attention.
I can't wait to see what happens next. I bet anything Locke comes running in and tackles Michael..ok probably not :)

ha! that's a funny image. how about Eko starts beating him over the head with his stick.

my actual guess though is that the conversation will cut off and the screen will go blank before anyone comes into the room. so michael will have to convince everyone he's not crazy the same way Shannon did. and when he tries to follow whatever "walt" tells him to do through IM, it's going to stir up conflict.
