View Full Version : The Clock and the Computer
nonyabizwaz 12-01-2005, 07:47 AM Is it just me, or did the clock stop at 51:00 when Michael was playing around with the wires? Just before the computer started talking to him.
(Do you guys really think it was Walt? If not, then who? If so, then why and how?!)
LOST_in_Translation 12-01-2005, 07:49 AM It looked like it had stopped but I think it only counts down the seconds when it gets to 4 mins, so it would stay at 51 for a minute.
I think it was Walt and he was made to type it by someone who wants another "incident" (as Walt is supposed to be with The Others, it would be them making him do it) or they do it themselves and pretend to be Walt - I'm not too sure about this theory though.
panthers14 12-01-2005, 08:21 AM but why would the computer pause at 51...its not a number, so why?
i feel like its a different computer

.
This is my assessment of the situation as well
r4stl1n 12-01-2005, 08:47 AM @ LOST and Maggie - mine too. Just a thing. The license plate on Edward's car also had irrelevant numbers: .32929.
Did anyone else, when Michael noticed the blast doors and started tinkering with the computer, think to themselves, "Yeah! Go Michael!" ? Between Michael and Sayid they're gonna figure this all out in no time.

It didn't pause - it just didn't count down the seconds (like it does when it comes to 4 mins) so it seemed like it was pausing but didn't - he just happened to look at it when it was on 51 mins. I don't think there's anything to it.
I might be wrong but I don't think it has stopped or they would've made a big deal out of it.
joeschm 12-01-2005, 10:17 AM I think they focused on it just to show Michael's confusion at the computer beeping when it was a long time until the next deadline.
nonyabizwaz 12-01-2005, 10:47 AM Well, the camera focused on the clock and I heard an alarm beeping. And why, oh why could Michael type on the computer before the infamous 4 minute warning, when Locke earlier demonstrated it was impossible?
twenty-three 12-01-2005, 10:52 AM 51 is the reverse of 15
omgimsolost 12-01-2005, 10:53 AM was the beeping sound different?
RamessesIX 12-01-2005, 10:55 AM 51 is the reverse of 15
Hmm...and Walt, who may be on the other end of the computer, has been speaking backwards in visions lately. Sheesh, the way this show messes with your head...:)
nonyabizwaz 12-01-2005, 10:58 AM Yes, the beeping was different. Different tone and slower. At least that's how I remember it.
Margalit 12-01-2005, 11:04 AM I think Michael could type when Locke could not because of the tinkering he did. And he did not type first--he just replied. So perhaps what he did enabled the message to come in, and the fact that it did, allowed him to reply.
I think turning Walt into the Deus ex machina is a pretty clever way to keep the character in the show without having to figure out what to do with his inevitable growth spurt!
And let me just say how wonderfull this board is! I escaped here from the ABC board, which had spoilers in subject titles all the time. Unfortunately, I dared to go back this morning. and greatly regret it: there was a spoiler in a subject title, which I really wish I hadn't seen. I just don't understand why people do that! Anyhow, I've learned my lesson and I'll stay here at The Fuselage. Thanks, all!
dingbat 12-01-2005, 11:13 AM I wonder if the clock hitting 00:00 just as Locke inputted the code had anything to do with bringing on the capability to communicate.
Dagirlindajeans 12-01-2005, 11:18 AM I made a similiar thread here (http://www.thefuselage.com/Threaded/showthread.php?t=28135) that could help with this discussion. It's along the very same lines as this topic. :)

That is what i was thinking, supposedly nothing can be entered into the computer before the last 4 minutes ask for it... so why is michael able to now....
i don't think he caused something to happen by the tinkering....
Unless it is all related to the new beeping that we are hearing at 51 minutes....
somehow it's probably a test to determine if the person will disobey instructions and respond to someone messaging to the computer...
i think this will cause a new incident as Dr Candle said it would.... i bet the blast doors come down and michael gets trapped in that room with the pc, with locke and ecko on the otherside of the blast doors.... Whether it's really Walt or the others playing a trick to lure somone into causing another incident not sure... but i bet this is where we get to see Desmond reappear after the blast doors get acivated through michaels misconduct on the pc...
