:clover: LOST Treasure - Clue List :clover:

Wootty's scientific theory The Bayesian Search Theory (http://www.thefuselage.com/Threaded/showthread.php?t=28831) described here

has got me wondering if Danielle's crew was searching for a LOST ship filled with treasure. There could be a LOST treasure even if Danielle's crew was not looking for it, and it might not have gotten there by ship. Perhaps it is an item or location of spiritual importance...a religious artifact, or an archeological discovery. A treasure could be buried on the island, or occuring naturally in the form of valuable metal, gemstones, minerals, or something else. If there is a LOST treasure, then it could also be a metaphor for LOST itself.

This thread is intended to only collect evidence that there could be a LOST treasure in the story. The list of clues might be helpful to anyone interested in pursuing speculation on a LOST treasure. Originally, this list focused on literal clues, and it evolved to also include figurative clues and treasures.

This thread is NOT intended to be a discussion or debate of whether there might be a LOST treasure. :) It is more of a clue and idea repository to be shared by all. Please leave your posts here (if you wish), rather than deleting them once they're on the list, especially if they are detailed.

Please check this thread first to avoid duplicates, before you post any clues. I make no promises on how often the clue list will be updated.

PLEASE REMEMBER TO USE SPOILER FONT FOR ALL SPOILER-ISH INFO!!!
and remember that spoiler font does NOT work for quotes!!!

SPOILER DISCLAIMER: The list itself is intended to be spoiler-free, with any spoiler info occuring in the posts. It is impossible to keep up with all spoiler info (and whether it is reliable) in a timely fashion. Thus, if a clue becomes spoiler-ish, this thread will most likely be moved to Spoiler Theories.

Thanks in advance for clues, ideas, and following these guidelines!!!

:clover: The Clue List (spoiler-free): pages 2-3, and 6 of this thread.

Hmmm...would the Black Rock and the fact that there was mining equipment on it be a clue to digging for treasure?

If you really want to throw a twist at your theory, take a look at the links below. They are links to old threads here which discuss an interview David Fury did with Australian TV guide.

Apparently, in the season 1 eppy, Solitary - there was a dialog exchange between Sayid and Danielle cut.

He asks her what her team was researching ... and she responds ... time

So ... if the Others are looking for treasure ... you have to wonder, when are they looking for it?

original thread (http://www.thefuselage.com/Threaded/showthread.php?t=11552&highlight=fury)

subsequent thread (http://www.thefuselage.com/Threaded/showthread.php?p=470774&highlight=Danielle%2C+Sayid%2C+time+research#post4 70774)

There is a link to the original interview in there, but I can no longer get it to work.

sheba...LOST is a wonder-full show.:D Thank you for the use of spoiler font, just in case...hmmmm, I wonder if this thread should be moved to Spoiler Theories...just in case. The idea of a possible treasure is not based on a spoiler, and I am NOT aware of any treasure-related spoilers. I hate to miss any clues from the non-spoiled, though. I will follow up.

Tabby: great idea!

I posted this on another thread about the sound of the monster, but maybe you can apply it? The sound, as has been discussed ad nasuem, sounds like a roller coaster. But could it be an old-fashioned mining car system (http://www.coaleducation.org/coalhistory/tech2/image/elkhorn4.jpg)? Kind of like the one they used in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom? (http://www.indygear.com/museum/images/mine_car_chase.jpg) In that movie, the scene takes place in King Solomon's Mines (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/King_Solomon%27s_Mines):

King Solomon's Mines, first published in 1885, was a best-selling novel by the Victorian adventure writer and fabulist, H. Rider Haggard. It relates a journey into the heart of Africa by a group of adventurers led by Allan Quatermain in search of the legendary wealth said to be concealed in the mines of the novel's title. The novel is said to have been written as a result of a wager, that Haggard could not write a novel as good as Robert Louis Stevenson's Treasure Island (1883).

The "King Solomon" of the book's title was of course the Biblical king renowned both for his wisdom and for his wealth. A number of sites have been identified as being the location of the mines of Solomon, including the workings at Timna near Eilat. (Not to mention numerous other fictional locations.)

(Interesting the reference to Treasure Island (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Treasure_Island), no?)

Anyway; one last bit about King Solomon's Mines (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ophir):

Ophir (Hebrew אוֹפִיר, Standard Hebrew Ofir, Tiberian Hebrew ʾÔp̄îr) is a port or region mentioned in the Bible that was famous for its wealth. King Solomon is supposed to have received a cargo of gold, silver, sandalwood, precious stones, ivory, apes and peacocks from Ophir, every three years. Ophir is also one of the children of Joktan.

Could this have anything to do with Alvar Hanso (http://www.thehansofoundation.org/alvarhanso.html) being photographed in that building in Narvik (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Narvik)? It is, afterall, an important mining town.

Sorry if this is all a bit speculative and silly, and not concrete enough for what you were looking for....

Oh, OK, duly noted...thanks!!!

Btw, for now, I am going to leave all spoiler-ish info off the list, even if it is a spoiler that could be strrrrrrretched into implying a treasure. We can just leave the info, spoiler-fonted, in the thread replies. That way, the list itself won't imply that there is a treasure-specific spoiler in it. Hope that makes sense!

Tabby, I don't know if this is the kind of thing you're looking for, but Locke says to Walt -"Backgammon's the oldest game in the world. Archeologists found sets when they excavated the ancient ruins of Mesopotamia. 5,000 years old. That's older than Jesus Christ." Possible foreshadowing about buried treaure?

Also, Sun's mother talking about her no longer being "gold".

And if you're talking about "mining" for treasure, there were those little gnomes that Hurley put in his bosses yard.
Legend of gnomes:
Their original duty was that of supervising and surveying the mineral treasures of the earth. Each group of family looked after the load of copper, a vein of gold, a pipe of diamonds, a seam of coal, or some similar resource implanted underground, close to their particular area of responsibility. To facilitate their work they developed the ability to move or "swim" through the earth.

Their helpful nature inspired them to assist men in discovering natural treasures, in such ways as guiding the feet of prospectors and influencing the science of geology, even though gignosko warned them that men would use these treasures for evil as well as good. But even their gift of prediction, or "future mining," could not foresee the unending extent of human avarice and its consequences.

As men delved deeper into the earth countless gnomes found themselves displaced. Clumsy miners wrecked entire colonies and the roar of explosions made life unbearable. Some gnomes turned against the miners . . . but the majority decided to emigrate to the surface and begin a new existence in the light of day.

OH! There was also that promise from Johnny to Hurley that he would "stay gold, Ponyboy."

The car(s) that hit Michael, Locke, and Kate (in Tom's car) was a gold Bonneville. The Bonneville is named for Lake Bonneville, which in turn is named for Benjamin Bonneville, who discovered the California Trail, the primary route to the gold fields during the Gold Rush.

Danielle's crew, Hanso and others are searching for some important religious artifact, sort of like Indiana Jones? Very interesting, though if it is an artifact from Judeo-Christian origins, the writers will have a tough time making this theme be plausible in a Pacific Ocean Island setting. Noah's Ark would be more plausible than others. ("Hanso" is an anagram for "Noah's", if it matters.)

I am a big fan of the mining theory. I had my own theory that stated the monster/security system sounds are audio recordings from past Island events (for example, sounds like the drug runner's prop plane stalling, the creaking of a beached Black Rock ship, the steel of the Oceanic 815's fuselage stressing) but when I saw that mining theory and read it, I thought "that one aint bad!"

There was also the Golden Compass....
The compass Locke gave Sayid was gold. Interestingly, in all the scenes before that, the compass hanging from his pocket was more silvery. In fact, since then, everytime he is shown with a compass it is the silvery one. Obviously, he had two for some reason. It brings to mind His Dark Materials/The Golden Compass.

Yes I remember reading about those sounds, and the mining theories...always liked them and only just today really focused on a treasure hunt. It would be perfect, even metaphorically! Btw, I decided to keep the monster sounds as one list item and I'll put a note to look for details down here.

I thought the whispers might be recordings of past occupants of the Island speaking in quiet tones because they were hiding from something. I thought some of them might even be in French, like from Danielles' crew. But, on the other hand, we do have that one occasion where the whisper is clear to the sudience. It was something said to Sawyer that possibly alluded to his killing that man in Australia. (I forget what the exact wording of that whisper was.) Therefore, my conclusion about the whispers is:

I just dunno.

Hmmm...I suppose that's relative, according to what it was supposed to point to in the first place. What I can say is that the gold compass was introduced in Hearts and Minds and, although Sayid said that it was defective, he continued to use it in Outlaws. The silvery one is the one we see Locke use with some regularity.

From Confidence Man

Sawyer: Just trust me, there isn't any time to explain. I'm already late. I miss this meeting, the whole deal's a bust, alright? That's everything I have. 140,000 dollars. There's an oil mining operation in the Gulf of Mexico, drilling platforms. 300,000 dollars buys one share, but as soon as you invest a Government sponsored fund kicks in and triples your money in two weeks. Triples it.

Later,

Sawyer: Deal closed today. See, woman are easy, a few cosmos, a couple of stunts they haven't seen between the sheets, and they think the scam's their idea. Now husbands, they need to touch the money, smell it, believe that if they had the brass to put that suitcase in the trunk of their family sedan and speed away, they just might have a chance at being an honest-to-gosh outlaw.

Also, Tabby - I can't remember the episode, but Locke talks to Charlie about the second Driveshaft album being titled "Oil Change". Oil is often referred to as 'black gold'.

ETA: here it is, from HOTRS

Locke: Hey, just because I'm over 40 doesn't mean I'm deaf. I have both your albums. Although, I thought that your self-titled debut was much stronger effort than Oil Change. It's a shame what happened to the band. How long since you played?

Tabby! How could I forget!

LOCKE: Hello again.

EKO: Hello. I have something I think you should see. If you don't mind, I will begin at the beginning. Long before Christ the king of Judah was a man named Josiah.

LOCKE: Boy when you say beginning, you mean beginning.

EKO: At that time the temple where the people worshipped was in ruin. And so the people worshipped idols, false gods. And so the kingdom was in disarray. Josiah, since he was a good king, sent his secretary to the treasury and said: "We must rebuild the temple. Give all of the gold to the workers so that this will be done." But when the secretary returned, he had no gold. And when Josiah asked why this was the secretary replied, "We found a book." Do you know this story?

LOCKE: No, I'm afraid I don't.

EKO: What the secretary had found was an ancient book -- the Book of Law. You may know it as the Old Testament. And it was with that ancient book, not with the gold, that Josiah rebuilt the temple. On the other side of the island we found a place much like this, and in this place we found a book. [Eko unwraps the book and pushes it toward Locke] I believe what's inside there will be of great value to you.

JACK: I went to a jeweler and I had a replica made, that's how. Yeah, now it's just rattling around in my sock drawer back home. Um, I can help you look.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

SUN: Don't. I'm sick of everyone saying he's alright. He's not alright. Claire found the bottle -- the one with the messages inside -- the one from the raft.

KATE: Where is it?

SUN: I buried it.

Locke gives the compass to Sayid but we only see him use it one other time that I am aware of and that in DEM, when his legs start to give out on him his sense of direction starts to go.

Since we know there is a powerful magnetic source on the island. Could it have been turned off breifly? Could that be why Locke lost his use of his of his legs?

If it was supposed to be like an alethiometer, wouldn't it be pointing to images that you would have to be able to decipher?

That's strange, I was thinking I had seen Locke use it this season also. Guess I'm going to have to watch some epis again, though for the life of me, I can't think of a time he has left camp for any length of time this season. I know I have seen him wearing the silver one hanging from his vest this season.

I can't even venture a guess at this point why Locke lost the use of his legs in a literal sense beyond what you suggest, so I guess... your guess is as good as mine.

I was thinking of the alethiometer in a symbolic sense. It's pointing to a truth that you have to try to decipher...that kind of thing. In the Golden Compass Lyra had to decipher the truth, but it was a natural gift for her. Just having the alethiometer didn't mean you would understand what to do with it.

I guess we're kind of hijacking Tabby's thread. Maybe we should take this to the N.E.R.D. thread. :)

Season 1 "Deus Ex Machina" episode title is Latin for "god from the machine".
...
It originated with Greek and Roman (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ancient_Rome) theater (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Theater), when a mechane (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mechane) would lower actors playing a god or gods on stage to resolve a hopeless situation. Thus, "god comes from the machine".

Tabby - I thought you might find the following interesting. Deux Ex Machina is also mentioned in the writings of JD Bernal. I have mentioned him in the transhumanism in Lost thread. Here is an excerpt from "The World, The Flesh and The Devil" (From the last paragraph of Part (6) Possiblity:

Eko's cross pendant (http://www.lost-media.com/modules.php?name=coppermine&file=displayimage&album=839&pos=548) is called a Budded Cross

Eko's stick (http://www.lost-media.com/modules.php?name=coppermine&file=displayimage&album=839&pos=28) also called a staff

Aaron (http://www.lost-media.com/modules.php?name=coppermine&file=displayimage&album=364&pos=857) was born in S1/DNH

from S2/The 23rd Psalm:

CLAIRE: Thanks. So you're Eko, huh?

EKO: Yes.

CLAIRE: Claire; and this is Aaron.

EKO: Aaron? The brother of Moses?

CLAIRE: Yeah, that must have been tough to live up to, right? The pressure of everyone saying, "Why can't you be more like your brother, Moses."

EKO: Yes, I'm sure it was. Why did you choose it -- Aaron?

CLAIRE: I just liked it.

EKO: Aaron was a great man. Moses had great difficulty speaking so it was Aaron who spoke for him.

From LostApril:

A Latin Cross with three 'buds', it is called a Budded Cross.

http://www.seiyaku.com/customs/crosses/budded.html

In Christianity, the three-leafed clover end caps remind believers of the Trinity. This trefoil design is probably copied from earlier Celtic Druidry, where they represent the three dominions of earth, sky and sea. Like the appendages of other crosses, the 'buds' have other interpretations. For example, a connection with Aaron's staff that budded (see Numbers 17) and was preserved in the Ark of the Covenant, showing that life can emerge from death and renewed life from difficult circumstances. Or like the buds of a flower where a journey of growth in faith, like flowers growing but not yet bloomed.

S2/One of Them: Danielle captures a stranger, Henry Gale. Sayid interrogates him, and Gale's story is that he got rich from selling his mining company (non-metallic minerals). He and wife crashed on the island in their hot air balloon, and she died after falling ill with a fever. Perhaps he was really there to mine valuable metals.

ETA minerals, not metals

Sam G

So we know what we're dealing with.
Non-Metallic minerals:-
Limestone, Nitrate, Potash, Dolomite, Mica, Gypsum, Coal, Petroleum.

Distinguish between Metallic and Non-metallic minerals.
Metallic minerals:-
* After processing a mineral ore if the substance we obtain is hard, lustrous and sonorous it is catagorised as a metallic mineral.
* Metallic minerals are malleable, ductile and have high melting and boiling points.
* They are associated with igneous rocks and are generally found in lumps and loads.
* Examples:- Iron, Copper, Manganese, Nickel, Silver, Gold etc.

Non-Metallic minerals:-
* If the substance obtained is brittle and dull, it is called non-metallic mineral.
* These cannot be drawn into sheets and rolled into bars and have lower melting and boiling points.
* They are associated with sedimentary rocks and are found in layers.
* Examples:- Limestone, Dolomite, Mica, Gypsum, Coal, Mineral Oil.

secretagentman has added some more info on additional characters to be cast for the season finale:
http://forums.televisionwithoutpity....st&p=498 6931

"In addition to the English Guest Stars for the season finale, I found out there are also a couple of 'drillworkers' in the eps. Normally that wouldn't be that interesting but they are described as working in a remote drilling station and will be speaking in a foreign language that is of an uncommon variety like Finnish, Portuguese, Ukrainian, Norwegian, etc.
Now that's intriguing. I will try to get some more info on this."

Drilling platform...drilling for oil...or what else? Drilling the Fountain of Youth? Maybe Hanso's Life Extension Project was drilling for oil, and discovered the Fountain of Youth (or some other valuable item)?

Please remember to discuss this using Spoiler Font...since the spoiler only refers to drillworkers and a remote drilling station (and not whether there actually is a drilled treasure), that may not be enough to move this to Spoiler Theories...

S2/S.O.S.: Rose went to see the healer Isaac of Uluru, but he said he couldn't help her, that this wasn't the place for her. Since Rose thinks she was healed on/by the Island, maybe the Island is the place for her, and maybe there is a treasure of a healing energy source. Ayer's Rock (Mount Uluru) was shown on Rose and Bernard's way to see Isaac.

from the Tiberius and Isaac's Pamphlet threads...
http://www.crystalinks.com/ayersrock.html

Ayers Rock was named for the Premier of South Australia, Sir Henry Ayers. It extends down over 3 and a half miles beneath the surface.
Approximately 500 million years ago it was part of the ocean floor at the center of Australia. Some report that there is a light source emanating at various times of the year. Most likely this can be explained scientifically.
The Aborigines believe that there it is hollow below ground, and that there is an energy source that they call 'Tjukurpa' the dream time. (http://www.crystalinks.com/dreamtime.html) The term Tjukurpa is also used to refer to the record of all activities of a particular ancestral being from the very beginning of his or her travels to their end. Anangu know that the area around
Ayers Rock (Mount Uluru) is inhabited by dozens of ancestral 'beings' whose activities are recorded at many other sites. At each site, the events that took place can be recounted, whether those events were of significance or whether the ancestral being just rested at a certain place before going on.

ETA: Quote from the dream time link (bold font added):

The Australian Aborigines speak of jiva or guruwari, a seed power deposited in the earth. In the Aboriginal world view, every meaningful activity, event, or life process that occurs at a particular place leaves behind a vibrational residue in the earth, as plants leave an image of themselves as seeds. The shape of the land - its mountains, rocks, riverbeds, and waterholes - and its unseen vibrations echo the events that brought that place into creation. Everything in the natural world is a symbolic footprint of the metaphysical beings whose actions created our world. As with a seed, the potency of an earthly location is wedded to the memory of its origin. The Aborigines called this potency the "Dreaming" of a place, and this Dreaming constitutes the sacredness of the earth. Only in extraordinary states of consciousness can one be aware of, or attuned to, the inner dreaming of the Earth.

TPTB have recently said (paraphrasing) that dreams will have more importance in the story.

He said broadcasters from around the world would release clues in a variety of formats and that players would have to join forces online to solve them. Mr. Benson also said that any new information or clues revealed in the Lost Experience would be applicable to the TV show's story as well.

note: Eko and Locke discover The Pearl bunker (?)
"Not only for posterity...filled with the fruits of your diligent observation" (Mark Wickman, Pearl Orientation tape, ?)
"I saw him when I was... between places. " (Charlotte Malkin, ?)It's still uncertain whether the Pearl bunker is the "?" on the blast door map (and Lockie's hand-drawn copy); some think so, some don't...we'll see!

Also, remember that Bernard was looking for a pearl for Rose's birthday, and mimed the action of opening an oyster and finding a pearl inside...it may have been foreshadowing the discovery of the Pearl bunker.

There's some good research and discussion of the symbolism of pearls on the Tiberius thread.

Thanks for remembering this thread and providing the link, car88win! :) It's good to see that we are on the same page, so to speak.;) Along those lines, from Confidence Man:

Sawyer: Deal closed today. See, woman are easy, a few cosmos, a couple of stunts they haven't seen between the sheets, and they think the scam's their idea. Now the husbands, they need to touch the money, smell it, believe that if they had the brass to put that suitcase in the trunk of their family sedan and speed away, they just might have a chance at being an honest-to-gosh outlaw.

Thanks, Sam! I did have this one, albeit abbreviated in the list, due to character limitation in posts. With any luck at all, a treasure will be found in Season 3 and all this work will be rewarded!

Has anyone mentioned that one of the most precious treasures on earth are children/our link to future generations....and we know that there is a connection to lost children...and a connection with lost(ies) searching for their lost treasure(s).

I can't believe that I just now found this from Season 1. As much as I have loved Shannon's singing of it, and the lyrics, it didn't hit me until now. I'll need to check Rousseau's map to see if the same verse was there, because if it is, then we have a reference to silver, on a map. ;) ETA Yes, the same verse is on Danielle's map (http://www.lostlinks.net/maps.htm).

"...to sparkles of silver" (English translation of French song "La Mer", WTCMB)Shannon sang the first verse of "La Mer" by Charles Trenet, in French, almost twice (her voice faded out). Here is the first verse in French and English (I bolded "silver" -"d'argent" for reference) from the Long Lost List (http://www.longlostlist.net/listforum/art_and_music/music/l.htm):

La mer
Qu'on voit danser le long des golfes clairs
A des reflets d'argent
La mer
Des reflets changeants
Sous la pluie

The sea
which one sees dancing along the clear gulfs
to sparkles of silver. [Note: "reflets" also means "reflections"]
The sea
Of changing sparkles ["reflections"]
Under the rain.

I haven't updated the list yet, but want to keep this thread open. We're still waiting on the transcripts for epi's 5 and 6.

Well, I haven't kept up this thread for Season 3, but here is something:

S3 FBYE: the Marquis diamond ring (http://gallery.lost-media.com/displayimage.php?album=1250&pos=545)that Desmond bought from Ms. Hawking (Ms. TIme/Ms. Fate?) and threw into the river (http://gallery.lost-media.com/displayimage.php?album=1250&pos=545), and hidden audio whispered "The Future Is Settled".

Sam, I don't know if the car blocks are gold or just yellow-colored...? Thanks for catching Jack's necklace, which is an infinity symbol (maybe the treasure is eternal life)? And for catching Ms. Hawking's Ouroboros brooch...another infinite symbol.

S3/epi after "Enter 77":
In the "Par Avion" US Promo (http://www.dailymotion.com/Luanne1/video/x1e2nx_par-avion-us-promo), Sayid/Kate/Locke/Patchy-Mikhail approach a mysterious border. There are posts with gold-colored spheres on top of them, and they appear to encircle a hill or mountain. Locke pushes P-M in between them, and he is apparently electro-shocked and we hear a yell. Kate looks horrified and says "Oh my God". Maybe this fence protects a treasure?

I thought I had posted the following here, but it accidentally went into the Mind of Magnus::rolleyes:

Hey, TR: did you catch the television report that John was watching when Peter arrives? The announcer mentions that some Bolivian gold deposits had been stolen.

Also? Sounds like whatever that "box" is would be quite the treasure, no?

S3/Expose':

The briefcase of cash in the Expose' TV show
The diamond bracelet that Howie gave to Nikki
The $8 million diamonds in the black pouch
The Matryosha doll symbolizing the hidden secrets and perhaps, another hidden treasure
Nikki and Paulo both digging and hiding things

This could be one of the best treasure clues yet!

From S3/The Man Behind The Curtain: DHARMA member Gasey is a gemologist on The Island (TMBTC).

screencap of Gasey's uniform (http://losteastereggs.blogspot.com/2007/05/gemologist.html)

From that link, via Wikipedia:

Gemology is the science, art and profession of identifying and evaluating gemstones. It is considered a geoscience and a branch of mineralogy. Some jewelers are academically trained gemologists and are qualified to identify and evaluate gems.

There's a possible reference to the Fountain of Youth in the "Ponce" and "Ponce de Leon" lines already posted...

With S3/The Man Behind The Curtain, Richard Alpert appears to not have aged since Ben's childhood FB (in which Alpert was an adult). This, of course, assumes that the character that kid Ben encountered in the jungle is indeed our Alpert (and not his father or other older relative).

Perhaps there really is a Fountain of Youth on The Island, and the hostiles tapped into it...

Maybe it's just me, but the heavy vault-like door (http://losteastereggs.blogspot.com/2007/05/first-look-inside-looking-glass-hatch.html) in the Looking Glass station looks like it might be protecting a treasure...to say nothing of the two women aiming guns at Charlie...

Pre-season 4 "find815 game" reveals that the Black Rock ship carried gold and diverted from its intended course!!!

Sam's laptop screen (in the game) (http://bp1.blogger.com/_HVloHM0J7sY/R4QsjXU6RyI/AAAAAAAAAF4/z6QZQRzEMrk/s1600-h/website+3-2.jpg)

Here's the text from that link:
The Black Rock was one of the three 19th century slave vessels thought to be owned by the New World Sea Traders. The Black Rock usually sailed from its berth in Portsmouth. Britain to Africa, then on to the Americas or the Pacific Ocean. By the 1880s, its operations focused on the Indian Ocean, where the presence of US and British navies was not as strong. The final voyage of the Black Rock involved the ship leaving Portsmouth and travelling to the South Indian Ocean. The ship collected gold from the mines in Indonesia and Papua New Guinea, which was to be exchanged for slaves in Africa. However, instead of sailing west to Africa, the ship left port in an easterly direction. It was never seen again.

Btw, I haven't updated this thread since S3/Greatest Hits (and not completely since even before that), so there are quite a few "treasure related" items and dialogue phrases that haven't been posted.

YAY...Treasure!!!
