Oh yeah....
I thought it strange when Eko refered to Goodwin like he had been a passenger.
Just what i had thought at the time i suppose.
And oh yeah!
The infamous close-up of the feet
and the teddy bear!
Oooooooooooooooh....
hehe
What else? Hmmmmmmmmmm...
Don't have the DVDs YET.

Is it just me or is this episode really boring? The whole Sun and her wedding ring was as melodramatic as it was anticlimactic. I mean who cares? The triumphant music at the end just didn't suit it because it was so not a big deal. And why was Michael at first so determined to find Walt one minute and then Jin says something (that I didn't really understand--did he say "you are important"?) and suddenly Michael turns and goes with him? What happened to his determination? The last thing that didn't make sense to me was the thing with Kate going through the messages. Sawyer was on the raft, he wouldn't put a message in there. Kate knows she didn't put a message in there, so what was she looking for?

I thought this episode was one big "huh"??? It's the only one I didn't even bother to record.

I'm sorry PJ, I have to disagree with you. While I generally do like the ones that center on Sawyer or have as much Sawyer as is humanly possible to have in side one hour, I really do like this one too.

I think the reason Kate was going through the messages was on the off chance that he did write one. I think she may have been thinking that he might have written on just in case something happened to the raft and they didn't get to deliver the messages, which as it turns out, is exactly what did happen.

I don't think Michael gave up at all in his determination to find Walt, I just think that it could be very possible that by running into Jin, he realized that it really was fruitless to go running off into the "haunted damn jungle" when he could reunite with the group and have their help in finding Walt or, possibly, keep himself safe so that he could try to find Walt again later. We must remember Michael is going to be searching for Walt for a long time. It's not going to be uncommon for him to go off in any way and at any time that he might have a clue as to Walt's whereabouts.

As for Sun's wedding ring, that was a metaphor for her "losing" her husband. She believed that if she lost her ring, then somehow or another she had lost Jin. And, her wedding ring is something given to her directly by Jin. None of the other possessions that she has would matter as much as that. It was her direct link to him and in her mind, as long as she wore that ring, he was safe.

Just my thoughts, I could be wrong.

Finally, I did notice something that I had not noticed before. When Eko and Jin were talking, Eko said he "was married". I didn't notice that when the show aired the first time.

Take care,
Lisa

probably the cynic in me, but I thought she was checking to see if anyone wrote anything about there being a criminal on the island.

Thanks for your comments lisagwilkins. Feel free to disagree any time. You definitely shed light on some things for me. I just didn't find the particular conflicts in this episode that interesting. I also thought the behavior of the characters was a little more contrived than usual, almost like the plot demanded they do certain things whether the character would really do them or not.

Finally about Eko--there was some debate the first time this aired over what Eko actually said. I agree he probably was married and it makes sense that he said "was". For some reason, it comes out sounding like he said "worse" and I don't really know what that would mean. What's worse than being married:biggrin: ?

Yep.
That's what i thought too was in case Sawyer had put a note in the bottle if something had happened on the raft.
And, i missed it totally Eko saying he was married. Good job.

This is my least favorite episode of both seasons so far. The flashback sheds little light, because we know they get together. It does make Jin to be a better person.

I also never have understood, even after about three times, what Jin said to Michael. "You're not at fault"?

The Goodwin scene is also confusing. The way Eko described him made it seem like he was a good guy, and maybe the other tailies were never sure what to make of Ana's suspicions and don't believe her. Also, didn't Goodwin die at the top of a hill with lots of open space around. Did Ana drag his body down into the jungle as a warning to the Others?

Doesn't eko say "worse" when Jin asks ( or nods , whatever ) ??

My first though as to why Kate was reading the messages was she was looking for her own message to take out, because she didn't want anyone else reading what she had written.

my wife and i found the part where AL goes "you gay?" to sawyer pretty funny. i think it was the way she said it.

i know many of you think this episode is slow, but again i'm a hybrid fan and i like knowing a little background to things. it allows me to understand the full story better, but i also want to, more than anyone else, to know more about the "mysteries" of the island.

sux, we have to wait SOOO long for the next episode....

I loved this episode. You find out who Jin was and what he became. Jin was so beautiful. And that boss he had at the gateway hotel was a jerk. And I think it was so cute when Sun found her ring and she remembers the day they met. When she was talking to Locke, he told her he wasnt lost anymore and she asked him how he did that, and he said, I stopped looking.... i thought that was significant because Sun's parents were looking for her to get married woth someone, and when she stopped looking, Jin appeared. I just thought that was special, and I really enjoyed this episode... Also, when we see the "others", we do see what looks like 3 kids and a teddy, but do we really see Walt??

Another that got my attention was when Jack was telling Sun abou thow he lost his wedding ring...he said he never found it and made a "replica"(cloning theory)...i believe this was a big clue....any thoughts?

I'm pretty sure Jin told Michael "You find Walt" (like, you will find him, don't worry).

I didn't think that the Eko/Goodwin scene was confusing at all, especially now that we know who Goodwin was. Jin points to him and asks "Others?", which, before we knew, we all took to mean "Did the Others kill him?" However, Eko takes it to mean "Is this one of the Others?", as he knows that he is. I don't really see how this is confusing at all - Eko certainly didn't say anything about Goodwin being a good guy. And no, Goodwin didn't die at the top of the hill. He and Ana fell down the hill, and Ana impaled him on the stick as he lunged for her at the bottom of the hill.

i never went back to look at screenshots, but likely no....anybody wanna help?

i just saw a bunch of legs....it was interesting to note that it was legs and then long pants and then legs again....i wonder what that was all about....then the bandage on the teddy bear...is that a foreshadowing of what happened to one of the kids or is it just a "fix-it" b/c the arm fell off? hmmm, interesting....

Lots of good points were made...just adding my 2 cents...

The "find when not looking for" theme was repeated with Sun's ring...I wondered if the weirdness of the legs walking back and forth might indicate another POV (point of view) being shown, and not just Eko/Jin's (Vincent's?)...and I, too, thought Jack's ring "replica" comment was a hint...

An aside: Both epi's with an ellipsis "..." in the title have centered on Jin and Sun...which may mean nothing.

As to what it all means, I don't know.

Interesting mention of foreshadowing..
I hadn't thought of that, but you are right that teddy bear was in good shape after the crash. very very interesting

I just think those titles are shout-outs to "Lost and Found" and "Lost In Translation" with the "Lost"s removed.

I too think this was a great eppie.
Definate small clues. Maybe no "in your face" monsters but those lines said by the characters and actions in the flashbacks are everything. I'd say 70-80% of the show.
Also was the "Book of Destiny" which has made me wanting to tie it in with Dharma and still researching plenty with that one.

And

Your quote,

is EXCELLENT! Never occured in that contex but makes total sense now.
Thanx!

What I think is cool is the different dialogues Sun has with Jack and Locke.

Jack - looked for his ring everywhere, and bought a new one to cover up the loss so that Sarah would never know.

Locke - he is found because he stopped looking for himself.

I think this plays into the differences between the two characters nicely.

I was wondering if Eko was a monk or a priest because of his worse comment. If he was in the Catholic faith he wouldn't be allowed to marry and it would explain his knowledge of the Josiah story
