Just saw a preview for Tuesday's Law & Order: SVU

MDK's on it. Thought I should post it here for people who would like to watch it for that reason.

I saw that preview myself tonight. I was wondering if anyone else had seen it.

Well, he wasn't speaking backwards or dripping wet. The question is, why isn't Lost using him? He seems to have the desire to work, TPTB should give him some. I hope this doesn't mean that we won't be seeing him anytime soon.

One explanation given somewhere on these boards is that MDK got homesick for California, so maybe these other projects are filmed in Hollywood. Based on his appearances on Lost in Season 2, he may have been in Hawaii for a grand total of one day of filming since the end of Season 1. Even then, I'm not sure Walt's and Shannon's faces were ever in the same shot, so it could be possible he hasn't been in Hawaii at all.

I hadn't heard that about MDK being homesick. I guess that makes sense for a kid. But you're right, he could have filmed those shots anywhere. He looks to creepy and whose to say that whatever is in the background when we do see him is Hawaii? :frown: :frown: Too bad, I'd really like to see more of his character.

Did anyone watch the episode tonight and if so, what did you think?

To me, he seemed pretty close to our Walt in looks...tho a bit taller, which I think can be covered up with different angles of filming. It should dispel those that seem to think he now looks like Shaq over the course of the summer due to some Dharma inspired growth spurt. And I thought he was outstanding in the episode too. Hopefully, he will be back on Lost soon tho and not just as the backwards speaking, dripping wet kid.

That was the first time I saw L&O:SVU. A friend called me a half hour before to give me a heads up cuz she knows I like "Lost." She said she'd seen the preview and that I wouldn't believe how big he's gotten. But, he didnt' get that much bigger. dzconfused is right, "Lost" could have worked around that little bit of a height gain. He probably is homesick; what else could it be?

Is the "growth spurt" the reason he's not appearing much in this season? I didn't think he looked much different at all.

But I thought he did an excellent job in last night's episode. He did play a character similar to Walt in some respects... I can't think of a way to properly articulate it, but they are both a little "spooky" in that they have a lot of power for such young people. Or powerful personality traits maybe is a better way to put it.

I had heard both his growth spurt and his homesickness as reasons he's not on as much this year, so who knows but TPTB?

You did hit on something that I was trying to figure out watching him to L&OSVU...he was a bit spooky on that too....kinda like the adult in the child's body thing. I thought it was just me having transference issues.

Yes, exactly. Neither Walt nor... what's the SVU character's name? I want to say Nathan... anyway, neither one is like a "normal" care-free kid. They've both got deep issues they're trying to deal with. Each is a bit of a brooder, as well.

I also saw the show Tuesday night and have to agree, he was spooky. That scream he had was eery for sure. I thought he was a bit taller too. I am a huge Law Order fan so was pleasantly surprised to see Walt!

I found the thread were some posters claimed that Malcolm was homesick:
http://www.thefuselage.com/Threaded/showthread.php?t=22866

Now as for the Law & Order: SVU episode, it seemed like it was filled with Lost references everywhere. Did anyone else feel that way?

The title of the episode was "Infected," immediately bringing to mind Danielle's referring to her crew as being infected by a disease.

Five seconds into the episode we see a close-up of Walt's eye, and face. Just about every other Lost Season 1 regular (except Shannon, I think) got that treatment in the first season.

His character is given the name of Nathan. There's only about fifteen male castaways named so far on Lost, and they had to pick one of those names.

Maybe I should spoiler font the rest? This episode may be rerun some Saturday or Tuesday.
The opening scene is like a Sawyer flashback. The poor kid witnesses his mother's murder. Then when the law fails to catch the murderer, he takes it into his own hands to avenge his mother's (and another freind's) death. But he has more success than Sawyer did in getting the right person. Then there are lots of things in common with Nathan and Walt, like the parents dying young, and being forced to live with complete strangers afterward. They have some ability to handle weapons, though it's knives for Walt and guns for Nathan. Basically a lot of terrible things happen to them in a short period of time.
I'd say Malcolm has grown a little, like he looks 11 instead of 10. But he runs like a more physically mature boy; there is one scene where he is running down a street quite fast.

Overall, it was a great episode. Malcolm has a lot to offer Lost; much more than any height discrepancy might take away.

Excellent comparisons and parallels...especially since both shows are on competing networks. Now I wonder if it was a conscious casting for his character on L&O to bring in us Lost fans knowing we'd watch?

It's a bit of a stretch, but the Nathan character referred to "The good people" a few times, like the Others saying they only wanted the good people among the survivors.

About the character name choice, I'd say there were fewer possibilities since I don't think that show would have gone with Sayid, Jin, or Boone for Malcolm's character. Though it might have been more interesting if he had been named Ethan.

That "brooding" observation is good. Will Malcolm ever get a role in which he has to smile a lot?
