I have a question to those out there. when Sawyer semi wakes with Jack in the hatch and starts asking'

I swear that Sawyer says No and shakes his head! i had to replay it several times, but i feel pretty positive he ment Ana.
could he have been referring to "ana"?

I just don't think it's clear -- Jack assumed Kate, but Sawyer never said her name, and he hadn't really been coherent for a while - never mind possibly being "haunted" by the ghost of Wayne (though I sure hope not.)

Okay, I have gone back and watched the intro again through iTunes. I bought all the episodes for Season 2 so far. In the opening scene, it is somewhat inaudible but you can tell that Sawyer says "Kate" when Jack says, "Kate?" It actually comes out "Ka" but you can tell that he does say it.

No one seems to know for sure that he's talking about Kate when he says I love her, but I really believe that's who he's talking about.

i think he got smitten with ana. the kind of gal he needs, one who will banter with him and not think twice at taking what she believes is hers. Kate had to be driven to give any info.

i keep thinking of the marshall, and how he always was choking her. makes me wonder if that is who is coming back. obvious the horse represented the marshall getting her. I believe she miss understood and thought it was wayne, but in truth its the marshall. maybe he wanted kate to kill him, not sawyer! i mean what revengeful thing, to always be thinking about killing the man who hunted you down.
and he just didnt just hunt her down, he taunted her.
anyway, that is how i see it. but i will say if kate doesnt hurry up and grab Jack someone else will.
tom wasnt killed by kate, he willing stayed in the car with her. knowing good and well it wasnt going to be good. she saved the guy in austrilia, why if she was so "murder hearted" why, why help. why shoot the guy i the leg in new mexico. if she was so
brutal" why not kill him, i think kate reacts and doesnt plan out the results.

You make some great points and they are definately worth thinking about.

I don't look for anything to happen between Sawyer and Ana, though it would be funny, the cop and the criminal thing, but I would really rather see Ana get eaten by the monster. One can only hope.

Kate had been with the injured Sawyer 'round the clock. She wasn't there when he woke up, so he asked "Where is she?" It was only after Jack replied with "Kate?" that Sawyer said "I love her."

Sawyer has referred to Kate as "her" before. In Confidence Man, when he was being tortured by Sayid, he said the only person he would tell about the inhalers was "her." We know he meant Kate then, and we all remember that kiss...

Sawyer told Kate that he's never been in love before. A couple of days with Anna Lucia was enough to make a lot of the VIEWERS hate her, so I doubt very much that Sawyer fell in love with her during that time, especially since he was out of it for a lot of the journey home.

I don't think its much of a stretch to say that he was talking about Kate when he said "I love her". I also don't think Sawyer knows that he was talking to Jack and he doesn't remember saying it to him. Plus I don't think he's ready to admit to himself that he has actually fallen for someone

I really can't understand why Sawyer would be reffering to Ana when he says I love her, I mean comon they were only together for about five minutes and even then they didn't get on that well. It is clearly Kate he is talking about, I have also watched it and rewatched it over and over again and he doesn't say 'no' to Kate he just gathers his breath as he is exuasted and injured.

I have to think it was Kate as well. I know some people think it was "Wayne" who was talking there, but that seems way out of line with what we saw of Wayne . . so that means it must be Sawyer speaking.

So if it IS Sawyer speaking, either he's talking about Kate - because its pretty obvious he has feelings for her - or he's talking about someone from his past. That we cannot know, at least not now. But he seemed pretty honest during the I Never game . . .

That being said, there's one other thing that makes me think he was talking about Kate. In The Hunting Party, Jack throws out that little tidbit about him saying he loved Kate, and Sawyer, confrontational, back-sassin' Sawyer, can only come up with "What did you say?", and that look of disbelief on his face. If Sawyer didn't mean Kate, he would have said something like, "well, I wouldn't call it love,", or "Jealous, doc?" -- but he didn't. He looked so taken aback, he apparently didn't have time to come up with a witty comeback. Not only did he not have a witty comeback, he LET IT LIE - as if he was hoping that little subject would just go away and disappear. Which to me, means Jack must have been right - he was talking about Kate.

Good point, I don't think it was 'Wayne' at all, in my opinion Wayne was only a hallucination Kate was having, and since she isn't in the scene where Sawyer confesses, I don't think it could have been Wayne.

I see why people think that Sawyer was on about AL, but since the episode when he declared his love, he and AL have barely interacted. The show's been putting emphasis on the closeness between Kate and Sawyer ever since - I don't think there's any doubt that it was her that he was talking about.

Now I just want them to hurry up and get it on!!

i am going out on a limb here, and very open to correction or anyone elses idea.
but what if the man in the bed was not wayne!
her mother looks to the side when talking of the arm and begins to say something about an accident. what if that man we see her put in bed was her husband?
is that why kate was morified that her when she found out that "wayne" was her father, as she married him! that him pursuising her was the issue at hand.
maybe wayne was in her mothers life along time ago!

I'm honestly surprised about the amount of debate there is over this. I really didn't think it was very ambiguous at all. To me it seems obvious that he was referring to Kate, end of story.

Just a random thought on this topic but not.....
It was funny when this happened, for some reason, I can't figure, it bugged me that this happened so early in an the episode. Maybe that shows that it is not what you think because there was no build up. and then again, maybe I am just tired and should go to bed! :biggrin:

Well I'd say this debate is irrelevant now, since Javi said Sawyer was talking about Cassidy.

But after he told us that, i started to think why he would all of a sudden say that? And then it occured to me, they already have that flashback in order for Sawyer. Sawyer was most likely dreaming about something that happened in his past, maybe he was looking for Cassidy? A while after, maybe that line is a direct quote from an upcoming Sawyer flashback. I can kinda picture him probably arguing with another con or another dramatic situation, and asking "Where is she?"

Kinda cool story for an upcoming Sawyer flashback i think. Also they did it for triangle development, and to make Jack think that Sawyer loves her, more drama i guess.

However, in the ABC recaps its says Sawyer was calling out for Kate. I don't know who writes the recaps, but it isn't some random person off the street.

ok, that many babies would make anyone tired...and all dried out! I wouldn't think it's such a good idea. However Boone was beautiful! and it's a cryin' shame he had to die.
I'm just not sure why they worked such a weird twist into the plot. I'm still kind of stumped over that one.

After seeing all the flashbacks of the 2nd season, I'm pretty sure he wasn't talking about kate. He was probably talking about the girl from his flashback in 'The long Con'. But I can't remember her name.

I hope he does mean Kate, even if he doen't I think he could end up loving her at the end of the show.............

I know it sound weird but think of michael's flashbacks and claire's flashbacks.....they have so much in common....it's like kate and sawyer....

No, Sawyer is in love with Kate. He hates Jack, for one thing, and he feels Jack is the only one between him and Kate (which he is). I know he hates Jack because he holds more power than Sawyer, but there is the love triangle thing too.

And Sawyer doesn't love AL, he said he'd kill her. Come on. I know they eventually do it, but that was kind of venting sexual frustrations. You think a guy like Sawyer goes a week without some girl throwing herself at him? No. That guy has a body and a face.

the only girl for Sawyer is Kate in my opinion BUT in the 2nd series...

...he was obviously upset about Ana Lucia's death. they seemed to have fun in the jungle but you know Sawyer, he didnt love her, just wanted to "bang" her. you will see what i mean if you have seen the second series. when he woke up i think he said "I love her" referring to Kate.
