View Full Version : Has anyone reconsidered....
FertilityHollis 01-12-2006, 04:23 PM I'm sure everyone remembers the hoopla over the "Magic Carpet" in the pilot...
....there were many who didn't believe it was anything, and those who thought it was important...
...has anyone reconsidered or changed their thoughts (or even developed a theory) about what they saw in the pilot and how it relates to "The 23rd Psalm"?
I for one have always believed it were there...and last night just cements the fact that it WAS something, for me anyway...
imaaronsmom 01-12-2006, 04:47 PM I must have missed this theory.
LostFan710 01-12-2006, 04:48 PM Wha...Huh?????? What are you talking about?????
nonyabizwaz 01-12-2006, 05:11 PM I don't know this theory either. And now, thank you very much, I have a 1960's (or was it 70's?) tune running through my mind.
Slopster53 01-12-2006, 05:15 PM Ok I'll try to explain, in the pilot we are given a reverse angle shot of the engine exploding. Right as it does something, blurred out, because it's moving so fast, seems to dive at the engine, and then pull up and away at the last second right before it explodes. I think this is what the first poster is talking about. People speculated that this was the "big hint" in the pilot as to what the monster was. The thing in question isn't clear enough to be anything but theory fodder. I don't think the new smoke appearrance pushes this theory's credibility one way or the other. Go back and dig in the pilot episode board to see what he's talking about.
Speaker 01-12-2006, 05:28 PM yeah, there was JUST another thread about it.....i think it's called "monster in the pilot" i linked to a question to javi where he says it's nothing.
possibly an FX marker to keep track of wind movement.

There you go, Javi claims it's nothing, I'll believe it.
gumpy5 01-12-2006, 06:24 PM Plus, in that scene, we had just seen a guy get sucked into the engine. That's a better reason for it exploding than a "magic carpet made of smoke".
castdownpbj 01-12-2006, 06:52 PM Also, not even because TPTB said it was nothing, but WATCH THE PILOT, PEOPLE! There's debris flying everywhere before the engine explodes. It was clearly a piece of debris. Stop listening to crackpot theories and go watch the episode.
elfdream 01-12-2006, 06:57 PM I hope we can finall lay this one to rest.

More like a 50's show called the Twighlight Zone. Gremlins anyone
Accidental Tourist 01-12-2006, 07:29 PM There was a lot of confusion and smoke during the crash, as I recall, in the second part of the Pilot when we see the plane crash. I don't think it has much to do with the monster though. Unless the monster is compiled of smoke exhaust from the plane.
I'm practical, sue me. :p
Earendil 01-12-2006, 09:40 PM It was clearly a piece of debris. Stop listening to crackpot theories and go watch the episode.
Never seen debris move like that though, but I'm not saying anything for sure until the show drops it into my lap!
Noeland 01-12-2006, 10:00 PM But Javi did not say it was nothing, he said it was not the smoke monster, and that was all, and that isn't saying it's nothing, or an FX marker.
Lets not put words in Javi's posts.

Magic Carpet Ride by Steppenwolf, right? 1969 or around there.
