It seems to me that people can accept their situations or do something about it!
In 2_10 Ecko stood his ground re the 'cloud'. Previously Ana Lucia had stood her ground, unfortunately, and previously Locke stood his ground with the 'monster'. Strong people.

In the 'Lost' universe, is one of the things they are trying to get across to us plebs is that how we deal with our own fate is in our own hands?!!!
Do we ask to be born? I don't think so. Did they ask to to be marooned on the island, either. I don't think so.
What matters is how we deal with it.
