Both Sayid and Hurley find the rope on the beach that leads them into the jungle where Danielle's bunker is. What exactly is it anchored to? What was it part of?

I think it's a power/communications cable of some kind, actually.

Danielle possibly left it there to lead the 'others' into a trap because you remember when Sayid followed it he got strung up, knocked out, then tortured!! So yeh seems like part of a trap to me

I don't think she just left it there, but it does lead somewhere

like possibly the tank where the shark lives...ooh!

I thought Danielle's bunker was blown up in season one, becasue I remember that Sayid found the pic of Nadia lying on the ground amongst rubbish. If it was apart of the bunker, then is it still functional?? Hmmm...

hi! being in the electrical field i took a look at it this past weekend and it looks to me to be possibly a #6 4awg SOOW cabtire - which is jibberish but a SOOW cabtire is a heavy duty power cord that is MILDLY submersible. If it is a cabtire - then it has be connection to another point somewhere under the water... possibly a hydro generation station??

Also Danielle's bunker was blown up - but the cable ended well before the bunker. It went under ground then they continued to walk to find her bunker.

the bunker was blown up in season one when hurley goes to get a battery for the raft radio. i thought that the cable went into the gorund before it reached the bunker though...

The bunker was blown up but not using the cable, it was blown up by all the trip wires around the bunker.

Sayid told jack and hurley that danielle must have been expecting them to set it all up.

I have always wondered about the cable too.

In the Dharma orientation reel, we discover that "The Swan" is one of station six stations (hatch) situated on the Island. We also know the Tailies discovered a different hatch (with an Arrow logo) on the other side where they crashed.

There has been speculation that the cable could lead to another station...an underwater hatch.

yes...as i said before, it leads to the shark tank hatch. but i was kind of kidding at the time. maybe not a joke?

yeah, it makes no sense that no one has attempted (that we know of) to follow the cable into the water. why follow it into the jungle, but then not in the other direction?

that would be quite interesting to find out where it lead to....

Well, one way to find out is to cut it and see who loses power? Since no one on the island is really your friend, why would you care if you cut their power.

Else tap into it... use it to run an electric security fence around a safe spot on the beach or to Zap Mr. Smokey...

These people act like they have no use for electricity....

I would swim in the water to look, but by the size of that cable, it runs pretty far... They have better chances of digging up the holes and finding more hidden stuff. Like where Locke was pulled under too... Dig that stuff up! Access those secret tunnels!
