flora 01-25-2006, 09:17 PM Just a quick reminder for everyone to scan the London backdrop!
cinamin 01-25-2006, 10:30 PM Charlie's song: "We Can Be Saved".
Religious references...duh, we can add baptism. And plenty of "saved" references to go around. (nice scene btw with Eko, Claire & the baby.)
Verrochio's painting referenced "Baptism of Christ" with Claire and Charlie's mom as the angels. Picture (http://www.lairweb.org.nz/leonardo/baptism.jpg) of the painting. Notice the dove in the painting.
Black & White sighting: the piano
Dreams & Hallucinations: Charlie
Briolette 01-25-2006, 10:39 PM DHARMA symbol on the playing cards.
Contrast of Eko's "angelic" face to that of the expression on Locke's face...
cinamin 01-25-2006, 10:49 PM Sawyer's Nicknames: Jabba & Hoss to Hurley
(shoutouts to Star Wars (again) and TV's Bonanza
Religious Symbolism: Baptism: Fire + Water
"I baptize you with water for repentance. But after me will come one who is more powerful than I, whose sandals I am not fit to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire. His winnowing fork is in his hand, and he will clear his threshing floor, gathering his wheat into the barn and burning up the chaff with unquenchable fire." (Matt. 3:11-13) These strong unmincing words of John the Baptist spoken at the river Jordan, stirred the hearts of his listeners. Many repented and were baptized, anticipating the soon arrival of the Messiah.
flora 01-26-2006, 12:09 AM Woo-hoo! Notes live! Outline form later...
The following is all part of Dream #1:
Religious imagery:
Opening image: painting of Christ baptised by John the Baptist
Clothing:
2nd image- bunny slippers running down stairs (if this isn't "innocence", I don't know
what!), flannel p.j. bottoms.
Holiday/Religious:
Xmas morning
Toys/Games/Gifts:
Voltron! -> Liam's present (I LOVED VOLTRON AS A KID!!!!!)
The Voltron that Liam had was the one that had the cartoon with the five lions and Princess Aurora. The only other character I can remember from that show was "Spen". But there was a big hefty guy, a little guy with big glasses, the cool leader guy, a wise king, a bad guy and I'm totally blanking on the rest of it. (There were two other Voltrons but the other cartoon I saw as a kid had a Voltron made of many components, not the five lions model that Liam was playing with)
Dates:
Note: this version of Voltron was on in 1984 in the States, though the animation itself was c. 1981 in Japan. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Voltron
SamG on the 'Fuse says this flashback is supposed to be 1987.
Musical instrument/gifts/black & white:
Piano -> Charlie's present
Reoccuring phrases, themes: "SPECIAL"->
"You're special, Love," says Charlie's mom
Important line/family/salvation/hope/pressure:
C'mon Baby Brother, you can't save our family if you don't play." says Liam
Occupations/Daddy Issues:
Father = butcher (quite an image! hacking away at flesh right there in the living room!)
Dream number two (continuation of same dream above, just morphed into a new scenario):
piano in ocean, crying baby, "FATE" tape fingers still on Charlie's hands, (looks newly drawn) baby sounds from piano, monster in trees...
Campsites/Sleeping Where:
Charlie sleeping ON beach
runs looking for Claire and Aaron, runs into Sun hanging clothes on clothesline
(Clothes, Hygiene, "Laundry") she says "She's fine"
Sees Claire and Aaron at surf, smiles, then Locke comes up with a (Shell???) and they look happy together holding baby.*
* Did anyone get a good look at what that was??
clothing/colors/black&white:
Charlie wears a black shirt throughout this episode with a white stick drawing of what looks like two figures? Does anyone know what that shirt is?
ExistentialAngel 01-26-2006, 12:21 AM In the commercial that Driveshaft was participating in, (was it "Butties"?) there were stuffed white polar bears in the fake oversized crib.
flora 01-26-2006, 12:22 AM Babies/hospital:
Charlie @ maternity ward
pink blankets
Isn't she brilliant?-> Karen
She's beautiful, Karen -> Charlie
I named her Megan-> Karen
Lies/Brother-Family Issues/Geography:
Charlie says Liam is still in Dresden, Germany...he missed the bus/plane-> He is making an excuse for Liam not being at his own daughter's birth
Imagery/Home decor/walls:
Charlie's flat- wavy Union Jack on wall of door
Geography/Home/Drugs:
Liam is really in England, smacked out on the couch, belt around arm, needle in arm, heroin in little plastic bag,
fire/drugs: having left a lit cigarette on the piano
Quotes/Daddy Issues/Drugs:
"You're supposed to be cleaning up!"- Charlie to Liam
"Oh, by the way, you have a daughter. Her name is Meagan. Now clean yourself up, you're a sodding father now!"
Romance/Love/Flirting:
That Libby chick, seems cool...is she? -> Hurley to Sawyer (and Kate)
Kate and Sawyer smile at Hurley
*just a remark that Sawyer has the mentality of a 12 year old boy*/quote:
What's with you, it's like you're in Jr. high? -> Kate to Sawyer
Money/Three/random number:
Sawyer says Jack is giving Ana-Lucia the "$20 tour" and that it is the third time he's seen them come out of the jungle together
dream #2.5
Charlie hears Aaron, sees cradle in surf, rips off shirt and dives in
Parallel: (Jack jumping in to save Boone last season, who was trying to save Joanna)
Religious imagery/hallucinations/visions/dreams/baby:
"saves" baby, sees Claire and his mother as Biblical figures
"You have to save the baby"
animals/imagery/religion:
White birds fly (doves)
Hurley in Biblical attire
"Charlie, what are you doing?" asks Hurley, it's the middle of the night and Aaron is in Charlie's arms on the beach,
Missing children/kidnapping/fire:
Claire screaming, people with torches searching (Jin carries a torch, Kate is in crowd):
Hurley yells, he's over here!
Fights/Violence:
Claire pops Charlie a good one.
Recreation/Games/Toys/Gambling:
Sawyer and Hurley playing cards... talking about whether or not Sawyer should hit...says he'll bust.
Random number:
Sawyer says he has six.
Romance:
"Your moment is now, Homes!" Sawyer to Hurley as Libby is off to do laundry in the hatch
Hey Libby! -> Sawyer
Hey yourself! -> Libby
Counseling/Sleepwalking/Dreams/Visions/Drugs:
Charlie goes to Locke, explains he was sleepwalking, doesn't know why...
Locke asks "Is there something you want?"
& "Are you using?"
Just a good point:
Charlie- Kate sees a horse, everybody sees Walt running around the jungle, but Charlie is using heroin?
Trust/Quote:
Locke- "Trust takes time...you should leave Claire & the baby alone for awhile."
Flashback-
Clothes/Colors:
D.S. Boys in robes- red, black, white
Liam looks "green"
Product they are pitching/Island parallel?:
"Bubbies diapers" (NOT "nappies", interesting!) -> is this a parallel to the beginning of the episode when Charlie presents Claire with some new nappies he just made that morning?
Polar bears:
in crib- polar bear, a regular teddy bear (happens to be white also)
oversized pacifiers, ect.
Liam falls out of crib
You All Everybody/Song/DriveShaft:
"You all every Bubbies!", totally cheesy commercial version of their "hit"
Ming>Mick? Quote/Brother/@#(&ups: Director tells Charlie, "You want my advice, ditch that one, he's a disaster!"
(Charlie replies that he's not ditching anyone, and "That's my brother!")
Songs:
In hatch- The Staple Singers, "I Know A Place" in the background (hey, I can dig it, finally some good music in there!)
Laundry:
Libby and Hurley doing laundry in washer & dryer in the hatch
Clothes:
Libby found clothes in abandoned luggage
quote/romance/flirting:
"When a girl asks that kind of question, she's looking for validation."-> LIbby to Hurley
Clothes/colors:
"Turn around, I want to try it on."
(purple shirt)
Flashback to plane:
"I cannot believe you don't remember stepping on my foot! Hard!"
(pretty shirt)Hurley: It's awesome.
"X" marks the spot:
"X" on tree -> Eko
I'm marking trees.-> Eko
Why? ->(charlie)
"'Cause these are the ones I like"
Drugs/Secrets:
Charlie knows Locke knows. Asks Eko if he told Locke about the statue Eko gave him after burning the plane wreckage.
Sanity/Visions:
Eko asks why he thinks he's losing his mind and CHarlie explains his dreams
Aaron in peril, in a piano, out to sea, Mom & Claire as angels saying he needs to save the baby.
Eko-> What if you do need to save the baby?
Kate stops Charlie from getting to Claire.
"Now is not a good time- not now! no!" -> Kate tries to protect Claire from Charlie (and probably a little bit of Charlie from Claire)
Religious/Peril
Charlie tells Claire that Aaron is in danger and must be baptized, Eko is a priest! We have to..."
Locke watches, looks sinister (Some Eko jealousy perhaps? Or maybe it's Charlie?)
Tents/Camp Lostaway/Island Innovation/Repeated Imagery:
Jack brings A-L tarp (before it rains) - repeat of Hurley helping Libby with her tent
The Others/Mystery:
A-L asks him why he came back after the confrontation with the Gordon's Fisherman- he says they had a gun to Kate's head
Romance/Flirting/Hookups:
A-L asks "You hittin' that?" (meaning Kate)
"She's hot, you're hot. It's what people do."
Jack says, "No, I'm not hittin' it."
Virgin Mary/Religious Imagery/Drugs:
Charlie goes to secret stash and breaks a Mary with his foot
Music/Instruments:
Charlie @ piano, writing
Broken Families/Babies:
Liam busts in "Karen kicked me out, man."
What happened?
She thinks I'm dangerous.
Why would she think that?
Because I dropped her, I dropped Megan.
Music/Hope/Salvation:
"I'm writing again..." Charlie to Liam...it's actually a good song about being saved.
Occupations/Allusions to Daddy and his issues/Self Doubt:
Liam: Two brothers who should be butchers
________________________________________
Locke- "I'm disapponted in you, Charlie"
flora 01-26-2006, 01:18 AM Locke cont'd-> You said you destroyed all of them, and here they are. (religious image/Mary/drugs)
Choices/Quotes/Trust:
There was a time I let you choose whether to keep doing this to yourself...now, I'm choosing for you. (Locke to Charlie)
Charlie-> She'll never trust me again & she has to! Aaron's in danger!
Locke-> You've given up the right to be believed.
Security:
Claire asks Locke to move into the bedroom in the hatch for a few days. Locke reminds her that "a pretty loud alarm goes off every hour and a half". So Locke offers to camp by Claire's tent for a few days, which makes her feel safer.
Religion/Quotes:
Claire asks Locke what he knows about baptism.
"My understanding is that baptism is so children will go to heaven...spiritual insurance."
Psychological analysis/Quote/Helplessness:
Locke again "Charlie just feels he needs to save the baby because he can't save himself."
Fire:
Charlie making fire (they dont' show his face), breaking twigs...
Religious/Biblical:
Burning bush...another Moses allusion
Heroes-
Sayid sees fire and alerts everyone. Sayid, Jin, Saywer and Locke are at forefront, trying to put up a firebreak so it doesn't destroy the camp.
Flashback to flat in London
piano is missing
Posters/Art:
"DriveShaft" poster on wall-> bombers superimposed over American flag
Broken family/drugs/rehab/quotes:
Liam sold piano to get to Australia says, "She was going to leave me." Says he's going to a rehab clinic in Sydney.
"I have to take care of myself, for them, for my family," says Liam.
Charlie-> "I'm your family!"
Liam -> Try to understand, I have to go...
Charlie-> What about me? What about my family?
Yet another kidnapping:
Charlie grabs Aaron; Claire sees and screams for help, Locke hears and runs
Sky:
Half moon over ocean in sky in background
Hurley, Eko, others come to see the commotion (what, is the fire out already?)
Religion/Fight/Quotes:
Charlie-> Eko, tell them! Tell them what you told me! He has to be baptised!"
Eko-> This is not the way.
Religion/Fight/Quotes/Daddy Issues:
Charlie to Locke-> Where were you when he was born...you're not his father! You're not his family!" (Neither are you, Charlie.)
Charlie to Claire (explaining he has to do this) "I'm not hurting him."
Claire to Charlie -> You're hurting me, Charlie.
Fights/Number three/random numbers:
Locke hits Charlie three times. (this makes four times Charlie got punched in the face this episode)
Goof/Blood: Charlie's cheek is bloody as soon as Locke smacks him, but by end of scene, it is gone. Maybe 'cause he was rolling around in the water, but there's no sign of a cut even!
Island medicine/Stitches:
Jack walks up to Charlie the next morning.
Charlie says nothing and shows Jack his cheek.
Jack-> "You need stitches."
Island medicine/needles/stitches/quotes/trust/fire/drugs:
pours alcohol on gauze, looks like a sea urchin needle (either that or it's ALL bent UP!)
"I started the fire, Jack."
"Yeah. I know."
"I was desperate."
"I need to know you'll never do anything like that again."
Charlie says he didn't use...he wanted to, but he never did.
Jack-> That's not what I asked you.
Charlie-> It's not going to happen again.
Stitches/Reoccuring themes, scenes:
Stitches just off the beach in the bamboo...probably about the same part of the beach where Kate originally sewed up Jack
[/Fire/Religion/Baptism/Bible:I]
Eko in burnt area, surveying (maybe he gets the symbolism of the burning bush!)
Claire approaches him with Aaron, and asks if what Charlie said about him saying that Aaron needs to be baptised is true.
Eko-> "I did not tell Charlie to do what he did." (Implying that well, yeah, they talked about baptism & Aaron but not that Charlie should steal him in the middle of the night and run toward the ocean!)
Claire asks him if he really thinks that Aaron needs to be baptized.
Eko-> Do you know what baptism is?
Claire-> It gets you into heaven.
Eko smiles.
Eko explains the Biblical story of the baptism of Jesus by John the Baptist. A white dove proved that all sins had been washed away.
Claire-> I have been baptised...if something happened would that mean we wouldn't be together?" (Meaning, if we died, would Aaron go to heaven without me?)
Eko-> Not if I baptise you both.

The hatch/lock/drugs/Virgin Mary
Locke changes lock combo to gun storage; puts Mary statues on high shelf (no, that's NOT a pun!)
Religion/Baptism/Island Ingenuity:
Eko baptizes Claire and Aaron, using clear water from a half of a coconut
Fire/Clothes/Imagery/Guilt versus Innocence symbolism:
Charlie sits alone by fire, pulls black hood up over his head and shadow falls over his face-> a stark contrast compared to the first image of Charlie in this episode wearing bunny slippers. Innocence versus a muddled, confused, conflicted conscience
Geez...I'm sleepy...but ya know what? I spent so much time writing these notes I forgot about my laundry and now all my bed blankets are still soaked! I can't go to bed waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !
I'll try to make more sense of this tomorrow. Good night!
car88win 01-26-2006, 04:17 AM Hello fellow LLL ! (we're still coming up with a name - we have a poll)
Thank you for the hard work! A treat = we have exclusive pictures of Charlie's mum while she was on set. They'll be posted in episode discussion area if you want to stop by and check them out. She's just beautiful - Sammie, who plays his mum.
cinamin 01-26-2006, 09:02 AM Keep the notes coming! I'll try to sift through these later after work.
PhillyGirl2873 01-26-2006, 09:30 AM Here's my notes. I didn't check for any repeats, sorry.
Charlie has 6 virgin mary statues, two bags of heroine per statue
Open with a dream. Charlie comes down the stairs on Christmas morning as a kid. His brother Liam is sitting under the tree opening presents. Charlie can't find any of his presents., His mother unveils the piano. "Save Us" - the theme for the show. Liam got a transformer for Christmas. his father is a butcher.
Charlie made Aaron some "nappies"
Liam's wife = Karen
Daughter = Meghan, after their mother
Reference to the "tallies" - interesting,. That's what we call them.
Sawyer calls Hurley Jaba.
Sawyer - about Jack and Ana, that's the third time I've seen them coming out of the jungle.
Dream: "The baby is in danger. You must protect the baby" Claireand Charlie's mom dressed as angels. Sound of the drug plane crashing. Dove flies out of the sky.
Huley dressed in biblical garp too.
Hurley is playing Black Jack with Sawyer, Sawyer is teachinbg him how. Sawyer calls Hurley - Hoss
"Buddies" commercial
Libby - mentions that the washer and dryer are newer than everythinbg else in the hatch.
Hurley stepped on Libbys foot when he got on the plane.
Charlie calls Locke - Bald wanker
Eko is marking trees he likes? Not sure what this is about. Eko helps Charlie inderstand his dream. Symbolism of the Dove is Babtism, cleansed of all sins. Charlie wants Aaron Babtized.
Charlie is having the same kind of dreams Locke was having when he was trying to open the hatch.
Locke hits Charlie, Charlie needs stitches.
Charlie burned Eko's trees.
Locke does not destroy the heroine, but locks it up in the safe.
Anyone ever comment about the symbolism of Locke being in charge of the safe? Locke - lock?
flora 01-26-2006, 01:36 PM Yeah...I already got most of that in my notes posted above.
Forgot the whole washer/dryer is newer part though. Good one.
Bald wanker- another good one!
Also, I don't think we can assume that all the statues have two bags of heroin in them as it seems to vary. The statue that Eko broke last episode only appeared to have one baggie in it...until Claire confronted Charlie with two little baggies that would have come out of the same statue. Maybe this is something to look into?
I've got to search for it, but there's a thread around here that says that Charlie had The Kinks playing in the background at his flat.
Edit: Here it is: http://www.thefuselage.com/Threaded/showthread.php?t=34500
"He's Evil"- the same song he sang last episode.
Also some people spotted a Kinks poster in the flat as well.
http://www.thefuselage.com/Threaded/showthread.php?t=34574
Fusie Jocko notes that Locke put the six statues from Charlie's stash on the shelf in the safe and then adds one more, a total of seven.
Where did the seventh come from and why does Locke have it?
Thread on the London sky "easter egg":

Should we add an "Arson" title to the list.
Charlie starts fire...
Walt burned the raft...
Bunch of firestarters out there in the South Pacific, huh?
duckyislost 01-26-2006, 09:37 PM Plenty of fires to go around.
Burning the fuselage to cremate the bodies.
Kate is an arsonist too, in flashback anyway.
The Others blowing up the 2nd raft.
Danielle blowing up her hideout.
Blowing up the hatch door.
Charlie and Eko torching the drug plane.
In Charlie's first dream/Christmas flashback his mom calls young Charlie "Special" when she gives him the piano.
Eko's cross was on a silver chain in 23rd Psalm.

"Fire", explosions, and arson are different things.
I'm talking about deliberate arson: setting fire to something on purpose, usually with malicious intent, and usually property belonging to someone else.
Burning of the fuselage and the Beechcraft was a form of cremation, a funeral ritual. Kinda Zoroasterian.
Perhaps you can lump Kate's blowing up her house with arson as she intended her mother to get the insurance money, but her main concern was killing her father- that was murder by explosion. ;-)
Blowing up the hatch door didn't cause a fire. It was the only way to gain entry.
Danielle was covering her tracks.
The Others meant the raftaways harm. (Okay, that one might count.)
car88win 01-27-2006, 06:07 PM Less we forget Walt set fire to the raft too.
Has anyone a screencap of Claire and Charlie's mom when they are "in his vision/dream" ? There's hardly any screencaps on lostmedia. And we're searching for a few.
dylan_1200 01-29-2006, 11:16 AM Brb Ill make a few. Let me know if there is anything in particular youd like.

car88win 01-29-2006, 12:01 PM Your a dear Dylan! I'll make sure we say you did these on the site!
Those are beautiful on the site. Nice job you did. That whole entry looks great now and I'm going to use it in our Dreams section too - not just the Art.
Do you have any of the piano in the water ? Your are so much better than the ones that lost media does have at the moment -
Charlie's bunny slippers.
The shot of Charlie's "father" chopping the meat then it turns into the doll
The baptisim picture seen behind young Charlie when he was coming down the stairs
Just to name a few. :)
Also, someone says that John gave Aaron something white - possibly a "toy" ?
dylan_1200 01-29-2006, 04:34 PM Hi car. No problemo :-). Itll be my tonight so around 8 hours or so, sorry.... and ill grab what you need.

Starrox 01-29-2006, 05:06 PM flora & car88win, please edit your last post instead of adding another reply, this is considered postbumping on this page and can result in warning points. Thanks!
flora 01-31-2006, 04:19 PM flora & car88win, please edit your last post instead of adding another reply, this is considered postbumping on this page and can result in warning points. Thanks!
As per my personal message to you, Starrox, multiple replies by the same person on the LLL is unavoidable and actually helps us in tallying up the details and giving credit to the first people to make a particular observation. This is not the same as deliberate thread-bumping, so please do not police it as such.
Since I now cannot make a seperate reply to divide my observations related to this episode and my reply to the above post, I will just scroll down and make it here.
Rewatch observations:
Liam, in the diaper, as he plays with the Voltron in Charlie's dream/flashback. When Liam morphs into "Big Liam", he ditches the jammies and dons the diapers, in an allusion to the diaper commercial that we see later in the episode. Also probably symbolism to how childish and helpless he was at the height of his heroin addiction- a general screw-up!
The burning bush, redux. Charlie pleads with Claire to baptize the baby. Charlie then sets fire just on the other side of Camp Lostaway as a diversion to his steal-the-baby-and-baptize-it plan. The place where Charlie sets the fire is the same place as where Eko marked the trees he liked. Still with me? Okay. The next day Eko is in the burnt section, looking at the damage of his trees, and Claire walks up and asks him about baptizing her and Aaron. Eko baptizes the both of them, just to the side of the burnt ground, barely on the beach. Almost in the exact same location as "the burning bush", but about five, ten feet over.
In the Bible, (in "Exodus" actually) Moses sees the burning bush and prostrates himself before it, recognizing that he is hearing the actual voice of God. (Yeah, I kinda had to look that one up, it's been a long time since my "Children's Bible" reading days. I recommend this link: http://www.thebricktestament.com/exodus/the_burning_bush/ex03_01.html) It is a revelation: not only is this God introducing himself to Moses as the God of his forefathers, it is a revelation that the place where they are standing is "Holy Ground", and that Moses will be the leader who will take the enslaved Hebrews back to the Promised Land (milk and honey, yadda yadda, Israel).
So, Aaron and Claire are baptized just to the side of the burnt area, is this Holy Ground?
By baptizing Aaron, is Eko reinforcing that his God, the God of the Bible, is also the God of Aaron's forebearers? That Aaron is a logical continuation of a long line?
By baptizing Aaron in this location, are they saying that Aaron will be the leader who will take the enslaved (crash survivors or kidnapped "Others") to freedom?
Exodus 3:7-8
Yahweh then said, 'I have indeed seen the misery of my people in Egypt. Yes, I am well aware of their sufferings. And I have come down to rescue them from the clutches of the Egyptians.' (Is this an allusion of the Lostaways suffering under the Others?/ Hebrews versus Egyptians, Non-Others versus the Others?)
Exodus 3:16
'Go, gather the elders of Israel together and tell them, "Yahweh has said, 'I shall bring you out of the misery of Egypt to the country of the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Amorites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites.'"' (Is this foreshadowing that Aaron will save the Lostaways from their misery? Or that he will free the enslaved Others?)
Exodus 4:1
Moses replied as follows, 'But suppose they will not believe me or listen to my words, and say to me, "Yahweh has not appeared to you"?'
Exodus 4:2
Yahweh then said, 'What is that in your hand?'
Exodus 4:2
'A staff,' he said.
Exodus 4:3
'Throw it on the ground,' said Yahweh.
Exodus 4:3
Moses threw it on the ground.
Exodus 4:3
The staff became a snake and Moses recoiled from it.
Exodus 4:4
Yahweh said to Moses, 'Reach out your hand and catch it by the tail.'
Exodus 4:4
He reached out his hand, and caught it.
Exodus 4:4
And it turned back into a staff.
Gee, who else do we know has a staff????
The rest of it:
Exodus 4:6
Next Yahweh said to him, 'Put your hand inside your tunic.'
Exodus 4:6
He put his hand inside his tunic.
Exodus 4:6
Drawing it out again, his hand was diseased, white as snow.
Exodus 4:7
Yahweh then said, 'Put your hand back in your tunic.'
Exodus 4:7
He put his hand back in his tunic, and when he drew it out, it was restored, just like the rest of his flesh.
Exodus 4:8
'Should they not believe you nor be convinced by the first sign, the second sign will convince them.'
Exodus 4:9
'But should they not be convinced by either of these two signs and refuse to listen to what you say, you are to draw some water from the River and pour it on the ground, and the water you have taken from the River will turn to blood on dry land.'
Exodus 4:10
Moses said to Yahweh, 'Please, my Lord, I have never been eloquent, for I am slow and hesitant of speech.'
Exodus 4:11-12
'Who gives man a mouth?' Yahweh said to him, 'Who makes a man dumb or deaf, gives sight or makes blind? Is it not I, Yahweh? Now go, I shall help you speak and instruct you what to say.'
Exodus 4:13
'Please, my Lord,' Moses replied, 'send anyone else you choose!'
Exodus 4:14
At this, Yahweh's anger kindled against Moses, and he said to him, 'There is your brother Aaron the Levite, is there not? I know that he is a good speaker. He will speak to the people in your place; he will be your mouthpiece.'
(Just like Eko said! So, who's Moses? Eko maybe? He has the staff afterall.)
Still more, Moses agrees, gets the Israelites headed out of Egypt when the Pharaoh sends his armies out after them:
10 As Pharaoh approached, the Israelites looked up, and there were the Egyptians, marching after them. They were terrified and cried out to the LORD. 11 They said to Moses, "Was it because there were no graves in Egypt that you brought us to the desert to die? What have you done to us by bringing us out of Egypt? 12 Didn't we say to you in Egypt, 'Leave us alone; let us serve the Egyptians'? It would have been better for us to serve the Egyptians than to die in the desert!"
"Leave us alone; let us serve the DeGroots!"
13 Moses answered the people, "Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the LORD will bring you today. The Egyptians you see today you will never see again. 14 The LORD will fight for you; you need only to be still."
15 Then the LORD said to Moses, "Why are you crying out to me? Tell the Israelites to move on. 16 Raise your staff and stretch out your hand over the sea to divide the water so that the Israelites can go through the sea on dry ground. 17 I will harden the hearts of the Egyptians so that they will go in after them. And I will gain glory through Pharaoh and all his army, through his chariots and his horsemen. 18 The Egyptians will know that I am the LORD when I gain glory through Pharaoh, his chariots and his horsemen."
19 Then the angel of God, who had been traveling in front of Israel's army, withdrew and went behind them. The pillar of cloud also moved from in front and stood behind them, 20 coming between the armies of Egypt and Israel. Throughout the night the cloud brought darkness to the one side and light to the other side; so neither went near the other all night long.
Pillar of cloud? You mean, like smoke? Maybe even black smoke?
21 Then Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and all that night the LORD drove the sea back with a strong east wind and turned it into dry land. The waters were divided, 22 and the Israelites went through the sea on dry ground, with a wall of water on their right and on their left.
If this is how the Lostaways eventually escape, I'll be a monkey's auntie! Let's just walk home, guys, and the Gordon's Fisherman's crew will be wiped out by the water!
The rest is just like that Charlton Heston movie they show every Easter:
23 The Egyptians pursued them, and all Pharaoh's horses and chariots and horsemen followed them into the sea. 24 During the last watch of the night the LORD looked down from the pillar of fire and cloud at the Egyptian army and threw it into confusion. 25 He made the wheels of their chariots come off [b] so that they had difficulty driving. And the Egyptians said, "Let's get away from the Israelites! The LORD is fighting for them against Egypt."
26 Then the LORD said to Moses, "Stretch out your hand over the sea so that the waters may flow back over the Egyptians and their chariots and horsemen." 27 Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and at daybreak the sea went back to its place. The Egyptians were fleeing toward [c] it, and the LORD swept them into the sea. 28 The water flowed back and covered the chariots and horsemen—the entire army of Pharaoh that had followed the Israelites into the sea. Not one of them survived.
29 But the Israelites went through the sea on dry ground, with a wall of water on their right and on their left. 30 That day the LORD saved Israel from the hands of the Egyptians, and Israel saw the Egyptians lying dead on the shore. 31 And when the Israelites saw the great power the LORD displayed against the Egyptians, the people feared the LORD and put their trust in him and in Moses his servant.

Just bothered me because <someone, cough, cough> accused me of thread bumping elsewhere in a rude way, but in particular because some posts get so long in these LLL threads that you have to split them up over two or more posts, so it looks like you're replying to yourself, but you're not, ya know! Besides, it's news to me, I've made mutliple in-a-row posts on the LLL threads in particular and no one's said boo until now.
I mean, crap, I joined the 'lage when I discovered they finally opened up the regular board because the linear board was all there was for awhile and I saw no point in registering for the linear board when it was just a very long conversation. So I was four days behind the big inauguration? Not that it matters 'cause all the new mods are relative newbies to the 'lage anyway. Bitter? No, it's just late and I feel like ***Mod-edited*** a bit. Tummy ache makes me moody. :)
Starrox 02-04-2006, 11:57 AM Just so you know, flora - just because certain rules weren't enforced that often earlier due to lack of manpower doesn't mean they haven't been there for a long time! Oh, and BTW: being a longtime member of the 'lage neither means you're automatically a better mod than someone who hasn't been here that long nor does it mean you don't have to follow the rules...
