Did anyone find it hilarious about Boone and the pens? I only noticed it the third time around. It just stuck out in all the screaming and bleeding.

It's called a "tension breaker."

i noticed it first time round. laughed out loud and thought, "oh, that poor little bunny, he's gonna be the first one killed off..."

sadly, i was right.

edited to add spoiler font as some parts of the world might not be that far along in season1!

In the pilot, Boone walks up to Jack at the fuselage and hands him a bunch of pens saying "I didn't know which one worked best". I believe he was the intended one to die from the beginning and they were making him out to be this sweet, clueless boy who would not last long.

Oh i loved that too - it was so sweet. He was just so worried about 'getting his bit of responsibility' correct. I mean fair enough, he'd just been in a plane crash, and someone was trying to save a life - and he gets told to find a pen - well you would focus just on your job and make sure it was perfect, wouldn't you!?!

Awww.Poor Boone. :(

I did think that was funny too, but it was also a bit painful to watch, kind of like an eery premonition on Boone's fate... :frown:

It was bittersweet. I laughed, then cried because that's Boone and we all know what happens to him. :crybaby: The writer was brilliant to add that in the show and break some tension. It was really cute.

it was the perfect kind of "laugh to keep from crying" moment; jack looking into the fuselage, trying to not totally freak out, and here comes boone!

I thought it was a bit of precursoring (possibly deliberate, but i'm leaning towards coincidence) to when Jack was trying to save Boone's life. After Boone's lung collapsed, Jack had to puncture through his chest to allow him to breathe - virtually the same thing that Boone suggested to save Rose!

I didn't think that it was funny. Very sad, yes. I mean isn't the guy supposed to be a lifeguard or something? I think Jack was right that Boone needed to turn his First Aid/CPR certificate back in, but I don't like that he is the first to be killed off. I kinda thought that he was cute. Sighs. I know I don't know much about the show but geesh . . .

He is a lifeguard  but I think he got a bit... uncertain... after Jack told him to turn his certificate in. IMO he asked Jack to make sure that he wouldn't get yelled at again later.

I just wanted to hug Boone at that moment.
It is so sweet that he is trying to help, but doesn't really have a clue how he could do it.

The first thing I though of when Boone suggested the pen was an old M*A*S*H episode with the emergency tracheotomy. Jack’s response to go get him a pen was meant as sarcasm, like “find a pen in this mess, yeah right”. When Boone brought back like 5 or 6 pens I did get a little chuckle. It was a sweet moment.

It's a funny scene. That's the only time Boone acted nervously though, wasn't it?
