As I sit here and try not to bash Locke, because all of last year I loved his character, I cannot help but suggest that he has LOST his faith. I have a feeling that the meeting with Zeke discouraged him about the island. Everything last year was a test, and the island is beautiful, and that the island would send us a sign. This year, Locke talks like he's just on some normal rock, like he doesn't care to explore anymore. (Like wanting to turn around in The Hunting Party). His character has been changed by the writers, and I'm not sure I'm all for it right now, but I will keep my faith.

I don't think his character has been changed at all. He talks the talk real well, now he's just walking it a little less. He's been calculating, manipulative, and even violent in knocking out Sayid and Boone (and drugging the latter), since season one.. and he's up to a lot more than has been shown (I believe).

On this episode it looks like he has, but I'm still hoping it was temorary insanity or something.

Locke has always been a wildcard. Remember him describing Boone as a sacrifice last season?
Not to mention his hypocricy:
Telling Jack something to the effect of "Who are we to tell people what they can or can't do?" vs. his behavior toward Charlie in this episode.
Locke can be really scary sometimes, and I'll bet we have no idea of what he is capable of.
This is one reason why I love his character.

I think Locke will be voted out at the next tribal council.
Oops! Wrong show.

I have been thinking this after listening to the last official podcast. They were talking about the monster and how it reacted to different people. They mentioned how Lockes 2 encounters were quite different. They said something like the second time he met it, its like he was less sure of himself, or the path he is on. (I need to go listen to it again)
I began thinking that it is possible that Locke is questioning himself, and possibly not quite as sure as he once was.
This episode is certianly a revert back to pre-island character for him.
