I'm afraid I'm not big on analyzing every little detail, figuring out long convoluted conspiracy theories or researching all the little background details in the show (not that there's anything wrong with that, I'm just not smart enough to do it!) But there was a small detail in Fire + Water that has been nagging at me. It concerns why Eko was marking the trees and what he was going to do with them. He said he was marking them "Because I like them" and I was wondering what he intended to do with them. The only thing that keeps popping into my head is that he wasn't just going to build a shelter, but that he was going to build a church. I wouldn't have thought it was such a big deal at all, but those were the same trees that Charlie later just happened to burn so that he could talk to Claire. As I said, I'm not much good at this thing, but I was just curious if I was anywhere near right or way off the mark.
