Official podcast said to watch for a significant cross in this episode. I kind of forgot to look for it. The only one that caught my eye was the one around Eko's neck but of course thats not what they were referring to. Anyone catch anything??

Maybe they meant as in double cross....

I am starting to think WE are the experiment

I think the cross was a character crossing...as in Kate's mom showing up in Sawyers flashback.

The cross was Kate's Mom serving Sawyer and the other guy in the Iowa diner. That's what they were talking about on the podcast, the various connections these folks have.

Actually, I believe it was a "cross-over" not a cross. So, it would be referring to Kate's mom.

Edit to say that because of post-timing, we all look like we are repeating each other. Ha!

OH okay, I was watching the whole time too and all I saw was Eko's cross... I think the "double-cross" works... and maybe that Sawyer's path CROSSES with Kate's mom...

yes, how is their "crossing" significant?

Well, I thought it was interesting that in Season 1, Sawyer was at the bar with Jack's father, and now he's a diner with Kate's mother. He's a connector.

I don’t think their crossing is any more significant than Jack passing Shannon in the hospital while hearing the news about her father.

I forgot until the end, also, but at that point, it was when Sawyer was saying goodbye, and you had a shot of a window in the background, with a cross like shape to how it was structured. Sorry I don't have a screencap. If I'm wrong about the actual cross, you guys have better ideas about the metaphorical crosses anyway.

well actually...that was extremely important...in a sense...Jack killed Shannon's dad....he chose to save his soon-to-be wife's life instead of the man in the SUV...that being Shannon's father....we were shown how Jacks' choices , when forced to make decisions, always have a negative impact on other people's lives not matter what

He didn’t choose to kill Shannon’s father, her father’s injuries were too extensive for him to overcome. He made the right choice in that situation. Doctors can’t fix everyone.

Yep, that is also something I picked up on also. I think this signifies that Jack and Kate have a lot more in common. For example, their decisions (Jack's decision to change his statement regarding his dad's inebriated state during the operation and Kate's setting the house and therefore her dad on fire) had life-altering effects on their parents. Because of this, their relationships with their parents became estranged. Perhaps this means that Kate will end up with Jack after all..and not with Sawyer.

Hello,
It also makes Sawyer's off the cuff remark to Kate in Season One, after she tackles him he says, "That's been my birthday wish for 4 years." seem a little less cuffy. Maybe he had seen her in that town before.

Good observation. I didn't remember that.

Yes, it looks like "Cross" means the connection of the Losties to each other in various ways, in regard to the more flashbacks we see of each character.

Sawyer has had a couple of what I would call "significant" crosses so far:

Jack's Dad in the bar, possibly the last one to see him alive.

Now, Kate's mom, before or after Kate went on the run? Her mom was at the diner when Kate came in and told her not to go home that day when she blew up the house.

Somehow Sawyer may have effected everyone on the island? Maybe one of the Other's has a connection to Sawyer?

Remember also that Sawyer told the SeaBilly "You and me ain't finished Zeke", which can lead to a whole other thread on those awesome nicknames that Sawyer comes up with in each conversation he has, like, calling Hurley "Jabba", that was hilarious...

Anyway, more ideas on Sawyer's connections to everyone?

Number One: Moonkin, what an AWESOME first post!

Exactly what I was wondering...I kept scanning the diner background for a shot of Kate...don't forget Kate's very attractive and vulnerable mom was with an abusive guy and may have been looking for a little extra companionship, so maybe she knew Sawyer...? (Granted, I'm stretching here lol) And if he'd been in that area with Cassidy for 6 months, chances are he'd have bumped into Kate or at least crossed her on the street.

Or, maybe it was just a typical Sawyer remark.

Yay, this is FUN!
