I've been watching this NZ kids TV show and have been really enjoying. It reminds me of two other tv shows. Firstly, The Tribe, which is either Australian or New Zealander (I can never remember which) and The From Tomorrow. In any event all three shows demonstrate that kids TV is sometimes far too good for the little brats!!!!!!

The Tribe was a NZ/C4 production as is Maddigan's Quest (http://www.tv3.co.nz/Competitions/MaddigansQuest/tabid/100/Default.aspx)from the book by Margaret Mahy, a famous children's author also from NZ
Don't know about the other one
OH!
I love the Tribe....
(yeah.. I'm childish and all that... but Caleb Ross is a hottie! )

ETA:I am A HUGE Tribe fan!!!!!!!!
I have been asking people for months if they have heard of the show, finally a New Zealand thread to talk about it!
All the guys in the cast are hotties, but I'm definetly torn betwenn Michael Smith (Jack) and Daniel James (Zoot)
yum yum.
And I have to mention Ebony (Meryl Cassie) is my top favorite of the characters, although I love them all just like Lost. :) And Claire reminds me of my other top favorite, Trudy (Antonia Prebble)
I should mention that Toni Prebble also used to be on an Aussie show "Mirror, Mirror" and the guy that played Bryan (the guy that was with Shannon in Australia) was on an epi or two. (for anyone keeping track of Lost Sightings)
SgtD- I think the third show you maybe mean The New Tomorrow, which is the spin-off of the Tribe and is supposes to be about future generations of the Tribe, athough like Lost it is unclear as to how much time has passed since the "incident".
I thought I was going to die of Tribe withdrawls when season 5 ended and I knew The spin off would be a while for us if at all, then Lost came on and saved me!
I have been waiting patiently for the spin-off to get picked up where I live! I am going to hold out hope that after the first season is done in New Zealand it will be available to us for broadcast.
As for Maddigan's Quest, I have never heard of it but it sounds interesting, I'm gonna have to look into that one, Thanks.
If I can find it I'll be back to post my thoughts.
And I know what you mean about some kid shows being really good! But you don't have to be a kid to watch them, just a kid at heart.
ETA: Geez, now I'm doubly jealous!!!!
I just read the discription of Madigan's Quest as well as getting to see a picture of the cast and It looks great! And it apparently has Fleur Seville - she is on the Tribe and is also from Being Eve!
I wish I could find these shows were I live!
Has "A New Tomorrow" started yet?? and is it any good??
How about The Tribe... are the other seasons coming out on dvd??? (I have season 1)
I kind of liked the guys that were my age or older.. so Caleb Ross (Lex) and Dwayne Cameron (Bray)... and even though he wasn't as cute, I liked Damon Andrews (The guardian, and he also did some directing.. I just found his screen presence captivating..)
I hava a feeling we could have many long and interesting conversations about this tv-show...

Yes New Tomorrow has run 26 epi's so far, it's not aired where I live so I am forced to keep up by reading the episode summaries on the website, but so far I'm hooked!
So far it is unknown how much time has past since the season 5 exodus.
In this series we meet several new tribes such as the Ants who live and farm in a snow capped mountainous region and just want to live in peace, unlike the Barbs who control the rivers and forests and are determined to extend their rule.
It is the Privileged (the Privies) that strive for total dominance as well as perfection of look, style and attitude. Even if it means oppressing their slaves - The Discards - who work on their plantations.
Some of the tribes worship the sun and moon, viewing all things elemental with an almost spiritual significance. Their culture and entire heritage seems to emanate from ancient markings visible in caves and on rocks.
The Forbidden Zone - a mostly inaccessible wasteland - is a dangerous and mysterious and uncharted "no-go" area around which there are seemingly no signs of human or animal life. Only machines from a bygone age roam there and evoke legend and mythology. Some of which involves the legends of Bray and Zoot.
As for The Tribe on DVD, season one is out already in most countries including America, but season 2 was actually just released Feb 27, and is only available in select countries right now.
I have been waiting almost 2 years now for season 2 to come out and now that it has I can't even get it yet! It is driving me crazy! And the rest of the seasons are planned for DVD release in the future.
I still hold out hope though, this year America FINALLY picked up The Tribe in syndication nationwide, (although even that isn't playing in my area:drowsy: ) But the channel I have always watched it on, on cable, still airs it, but they have been stuck on seasons 4 and 5 for 2 years now.
Not only is my daughter hooked and waiting patiently, but I got a whole group of my friends hook and they too have been waiting patiently to see season 2.
And they are constantly dropping hints on Tribeworld that there IS a season 6 planned but they are not filming as of yet, I think they may be waiting to see how the spin off develops so they can integrate the two.
The Cloud Nine website has an Awesome promo video for The Tribe available for download that is an excellent summary of the show, I'm dying for them to do one for The New Tomorrow.
I'm sure you have guessed by now, I am completely obsessed with this show, and I try to follow the careers of the actors I like like, like I do with other shows, but the New Zealand and Aussie shows are hard to find here, and I have tried several times to find a satellite provider that can get me the channels and I never get a straight answer as to why it's not available.
I'm having the same problem trying to find the new series of Dr. Who! Even the Sci-Fi channel didn't pick it up, What the Heck! One of the grandfathers of Sci-Fi and its not on the Sci-Fi channel, that just seems wrong. And I understand that the BBC also has some sort of predjudice against the series and this is why it isn't on BBC America.
The same goes for Madigan's Quest, it seems to have a similar plot but is set in a more futuristic space age. I would Highly enjoy seeing this series as well.
All these shows seem perfect for the programming the cable channel I watch the Tribe on. At least based on it's programming when I first got it. But now all they do is play movies and these filler "real life" shows about real kids. They only play like 2 regular shows anymore, it sucks, I only keep the channel at this point because they still air the Tribe. They also used to play a lot of show from Canada, but with the addition of The-N, they have stopped that too, and they mostly play the same old American sitcoms that are aired on tons of other channels, like Moesha, Sabrina, and The Fresh Prince.
The Discovery Kids networkd plays some interesting shows, but the only show with the same level of imagination, IMO, is Strange Days at Blake Holsey High (Blackhole High) That show was Awesome too, but is technically in an indefinate hiatus unless someone picks them up for a new series about their lives after graduation. They left it with the school closing but and insinuation that Victor Peardyne may reopen the school himself. (Fingers Crossed)
This show had a similar way of telling the story too, except since they where jumping around in time the flashbacks usually involve one of the students going through the wormhole and physically seeing the past. Throughout the series the writers weave a pretty intricate mystery, involving everyday life situations, blackholes, wormholes, parallel dimensions, nanotechnology, clones, quantum physics, tesseracts, as well as some strange family and friends connections from the past and present. There is even an episode entitled "Lost"
It's actually quite complex for a kids show which is why I don't understand why people think the explanation for Lost will be so simple.
I could go on about these shows and Lost all day. If anyone has a question about any of these shows I'd be glad to try and answer them, just ask, I could talk about TV all day!
And anyone that wants to update me on these shows feel free, I'm dying for any news about them.
Namaste
