View Full Version : Something I've been wondering since last season

Last season, Jack started seeing his Father around the island, only to have him disappear, at one point he chased him into the jungle only to fall off a cliff and was saved by Locke who just happened to be in the area, (kind of strange in itself).

He ends up finding the part of the plane that was carrying the coffin his Father's body was kept in only to find it empty and then smashing the Hell out of it, I guess out of frustration.

But they have never touched on the subject since and I have not seen it mentioned anywhere, what happened to the body, and what did Jack seeing his Father around the island actually mean? Locke mentioned the island's magical powers, and told Jack whatever he wa looking for, to go find it..

Will they ever explain what happened to Jack's Father's body and why he was seeing him around the island?

Another of the show's mysteries.

I'm sure the island powers revived his father, just like it helped Locke get on his feet again. ;) Just joking of course...?

It wasn't that coincidentally that Locke was near, as I remember correctly Locke went after Jack to either help him with getting water or because he was worried. Either way of course it was coincidence, but it's TV, don't think that had more meaning. But I'm sure we will see his father again, since we havn't seen the body and there must be reason for that.

I'm pretty sure there's a thread about this in the board for White Rabbit.
I know I saw it somewhere on this site.

Other members here have said that bodies are not usually shippped inside the coffin. Perhaps the body wasn't even on the plane. Maybe Jack shipped an empty coffin to please his mother.
Hopefully we'll get some sort of explanation for this and others (like what happened to the guy who was following Jin).

Good question. I sure hope so. Here's my theory and it at least partially includes why Jack was seeing his father around the island.

It all goes back to this "Illness" that Rousseo was talking to Sayid about. It's pretty safe to say that Jack's blood was the first to be spilled on the island. He had that cut on the side that he needed Kate's help in sewing up. What if he became infected and the early onsets of the disease/virus/whatever causes hallucinations? Or if the body's natural defenses caused a raise in temperature that caused them? (Far less likely)

Lets not forget that we're half way thru season two and we've barely hit 50 days on the island. It's possible that whatever has happend to Jack is still happening. Then again, it could just be a dead plot line they wont touch till later. :/

My theory on this is that the coffin was empty. As you actually see jacks dad walk behind him before he finds the caves? Well jack did not see that, he had his back to his dad, but we as the vew see this...hinting his dad is actually there?

Also i had a thought of whether his dad is actually dead when jack goes to see him in the morge? Think back to when Jacks mum says to go get his father, but then jack tells her that he is the last person his father wants to be saved. Maybe his dad faked his own death? Just to get away from his problems.

I think Jack's dad would be beyond faking his own death at his stage, but I do wonder why it hasn't been answered with what happened to him. Wasn't the idea that he was showing Jack where to find the water? I kind of hope that this freaky island hasn't revived him...it would be a bit of a long shot...

If bodies aren't shipped inside the coffin, how are they shipped? Surely if there's a coffin and a body to go in it, it kind of makes sense for them to go together?

I would just assume that if a body was shipped inside a coffin... then the coffin would either need to be locked up or crated/boxed up so that nobody can get inside of the coffin easily.
