wow I thought i was the only person that thought that when i watching that but kept quiet  do you think that goes to where jack and sayid went to when they investigated the blast doors?

Could be, but it could also be more storage under the room that doesnt lead to anywhere. I dont think old Hank will be getting away anytime soon, he's got too much to tell us first!

Good spot!! And don't forget...Henry has a pair of pliers in there with him.

Not so sure he'll be gone immediately...as the synopsis for the next episode states

Jack and Locke try to keep their captive a secret from the other castaways.

But I can def see a scenario where they open that armory door soon...and Mr. Gale is "Gone with the Wind"!

It's precisely that he DOES have much to tell us that I agree that Henry may have escaped by the time Sayid goes to check on him again...
Great catch! I didn't see that, but then again, I can't record the show and so only get to see it once. *sob* Gotta get me a TIVO.

ETA:

I don't think so, because if they had, Sayid wouldn't be so lax as to "forget" that a possible escape hatch is in the same room where he is keeping a potentially valuable prisoner. I mean, yeah, Sayid let himself become more emotionally involved than he should've been, but he's not stupid by any means.

It's certainly a possibility... and we know how folks with real info tend to disappear on this show...

Now wouldn’t it just be funny as heck if that’s where Sawyer stored all the guns!

Uh...I don't think that's a hatch.

If you're referring to the ring sunk into the floor directly to Hank's right, that's a tiedown ring for securing large loads. Notice there's another with Hank's bonds tied down.

Edit to add: wait a minute...tied downs like that are usually only on things that move, like ships, airplanes, or helos.

Yeah, i think it is a tie-down ring. Which would be necessary in a storage facility, which is what that hatch appears to half-way be.

It is a tiedown ring...but those are normally found only on moving vehicles to keep a load from shifting. Why is there a pair of tiedown rings in an armory?

Going nowhere. Several more sessions with Sayid scheduled. Thank you, call again.

when they first discovered the hatch, didn't kate drop in or get out of that room thru the vents???

nope, she was in the kitchen, grabbed a few candy bars on her way to the vents..

Tie down rings like the ones shown can be found where valuables are kept in a moveable container, such as a chest or on light shelves. The tie downs are used to "tie down" the container itself. This does nothing to disrupt my suspension of disbelief.

It could be! Interesting, I didn't notice that while watching. Thanks. If it's not it coulc just be a 4x4 storage, but storage for what? Any guess's to what could be there if anything?

nope, she was in the kitchen, grabbed a few candy bars on her way to the vents..

Actually, she was tied up in the food storage room then went through the vents to the gun vault.

Not to worry though, good old Locke took care of that vent, as he told Jack when Michael locked the two of them in before he took off after Walt. :)

This really makes me think about the hatch. I wonder if there are vents we haven't seen at all.

Nope, not a storage unit underneath. If there were a hatch, then the ring wouldn't straddle a line on the floor like that. Look at the photo closer.

Anyone have a better cap? It looks like a flush lift ring, but it is weird that it straddles the seam, unless it is a locking lift ring with a top indicator.

It looks as though there is a LINE that would indecate a door, not just a tie down, I could be wrong though! Anywone else see it?

The media was told that the actor playing Henry Gale is signed for a six-eppy arc. So far, we've seen him in ONE eppy. He's definitely in "Maternity Leave," the next new eppy, too. So there'll be four more Henry eppys after that. He's not going anywhere for awhile. . .that's not spoiler, that's documented fact.

That's not an answer to whether or he not he could or does escape from the hatch, he would not have to be gone completely from the show right away.

My take is that there is a hatch there, but I have been wrong about things before.

i think it's just part of whatever set they are using.. i don't think it will play a part in the show..

if you look at it from this angle, you can see that it is overlaid on top of the crack. if it was on one section or the other, i think that you would have a case to say that it could be a trap door but as you can see it wouldn't be able to pull either of them up.

good catch though.

it also looks like he is tied to another one of those rings

I realize this... but they never said it would be consecutive eps. Ya know what I mean? If nothing else he still has the channel locks and the the vent is bolted from his side. If he is an Other, I say he is out of the vault by the end of the next episode. But no doubt we will see him again.
