View Full Version : Desmond Mind Power?

I've had this thought, sorry if it's been discussed already, that Desmond has got some kind of mind power like Walt's. We know something is "different" about Walt and, according to many theories, that he can sort of make things happen (the bird crashing into the window, perhaps the polar bear, etc.)

I think Desmond has this power. Don't know how or why he has it, but he does... In Man of Science, Man of Faith, in the scene at the stadium, Jack tells Desmond about his failure to fix Sarah. Desmond responds eerily with, "What if you did fix her?" -Then Sarah is miraculously cured. Such a thing is really impossible; Jack *knew* he did not succeed in the procedure, so how is it that she has feeling below her waist?!

Feel free to disprove or point out Locke's situation ;)

That would be very interesting

If he did fix Shara that means he knows how to use his power, unlike Walt that just uses it without knowing

Which may lead into the theories of Desmond being involved in Dharma/Hanso... not sure how I feel about those, really. But there really is more to him than meets the eye, of course. As if he met Jack at the stadium all those years ago by coicidence? Hmm, nothing on Lost is random.....

Does anyone else have this alleged power? And can we assume that Desmond, Walt and Aaron have got it, and very possibly the Others?

He'd HAVE to "not know about" any such power--or surely he'd have used it to cure Kelvin, and save his life! Just sayin'. . . .

Ahh, good point! Well, I still do think there's something fishy about the Sarah situation though...

It could just be that Desmond, the almost doctor, has a positive frame of mind. He seems to be telling Jack that one should never give up hope. (Something Jack's dad had said earlier in that eppy, actually.) Maybe Desmond has seen a "miracle" or two up close and personal; "lift it up" did NOT just refer to Jack's ankle, ya know!

I don't think Desmond had any hand in the curing/fixing of Sarah. I think Desmond was just giving Jack the positive outlook of the situation (of which, as far as we know, he had no details of). But having almost been a doctor himself, he probably knew that it takes time to know if a patient has full recovery or not. Jack is a back surgeon, that's his speciality. I think that his talent teamed with a patient that had the full will to return to normal (remember, she said she had to dance at her wedding) made for the positive outcome of the surgery. "Miracles" happen every day in medicine.

Hear, hear, Jane! Wouldn't Desmond have been a great doctor? Well, personally, I know I'd love the chance to experience his bedside manner.

Jane: Dr. Desmond, I have a fever.
Dr. D: But you're not sick. We've run all the tests ... there's nothing wrong with you that I can see.
Jane: Look closer ...
